    Speargun building comes in all different flavors and styles, such as this diy homemade speargun with a flair of fancy, an open track spear gun. This video details how to build a wooden speargun for shallow water spearfishing and this is how I made this first diy spearfishing gun utilizing a variety of woodworking techniques, a true homemade spear gun. This homemade speargun is by no means an expert project and through this video I document how to make a spear gun step by step. In this spear gun build, I utilized the Neptonics reef trigger mechanism in this video that incorporates diy speargun parts and ultimately shows a spearfishing gun with reel. This diy speargun is entirely crafted from local Indian rosewood. However, the principles are very basic in this simple homemade speargun. I show you how to make a speargun handle through power carving a basic, ergonomic, diy speargun handle.
    The finishing products were supplied and sponsored by Mas Epoxies. Those included a three stage process of penetrating epoxy, 2:1 epoxy, and Bristol Finish Urethane top coat. Those three finishes allow any diy maker to safely finish a home made spear gun in their shop. The diy spear gun may appear to be intimidating, but this simple spear gun make is far from daunting with only a few specialized tools necessary. Most of principles on how to make a spear gun from wood, are basic wood working joinery techniques, such as draw bore mortise and tenon, that are elementary. At the end of the day I hope this video on how to make a wooden speargun inspires you build and move outside of your comfort zone and try a new project such as this easy speargun diy.

    Great book for a beginner . ruclips.net/user/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ this book really starts from the beginning, as in it explains what basic tools are and how to use them. But when it gets to the art of creating joints and how and when to use them this book really starts to teach you something. At least that was my experience.

      It’s just a different approach. Most of the speargun videos require a router table and specific end mill bits. I did this primarily with a table saw and a drill press. A majority of the other tools are optional.

    Nice build for your first but all those band holes aren't needed even for band band placement. There's a bunch of different band sizes out there and and u can cut to length instead of band placement. Epoxy for track or metal maybe? Straight wood track would wear out over time. Would love to see another build one day👍🏼

I don't drink expensive whiskys tbf, I'm comparing it to like, jack daniels and captain morgans, the only other whiskys I've had are Famous grouse and Laphroig, didn't care for FG and Laphroig is a different ball game.

    Hello, great video...thx One question: what is the reasoning behind using the penetrating epoxy first and then a standard 2:1 epoxy? Is the first not enough? is the penetrating epoxy also a mix with hardener? Did you sand between penetrating epoxy...standard epoxy and then the finish? Thx in advance and sorry for the 20 questions. Jason

    • @CowDogCraftWorks
      @CowDogCraftWorks  2 года назад

      Yeah so the penetrating epoxy is a ton thinner. It’ll travel the pores and grain direction to preserve it from the inside out and the 2:1 operates as a more substantial top coat. It is a two part mix with hardener. I did a very light scuff sand. Just some 220 to knock down any little bumpies.

  • @zackmaschal784

    Also, can you share any details about how you sized the shaft track for the size spear shaft the gun will use?
    Thanks!

    • @CowDogCraftWorks

      Thanks man! Yeah it was a wacky build. I really want to do another one and keep it for myself... and then shoot a fish in the face.

    Hey man!! Just wondering what type of Magnets you used and what you used to Glue the pieces of wood together. Thanks :)

    • @CowDogCraftWorks
      @CowDogCraftWorks  3 года назад +1

      Titebond 2... I would recommend going with 3 or using epoxy to laminate the wood together. Those are just neodymium magnets. I got mine from Home Depot.

    • @CowDogCraftWorks
      @CowDogCraftWorks  4 года назад

      I used titebond II... BUT I only used that because I did a lot of extra finishing work. If you’re not confident in your ability to keep the gun water tight or you don’t want to use topical finishes you should use poly glue or titebond 3.

    Hey what if i do the gun with one piece of wood?

    • @CowDogCraftWorks
      @CowDogCraftWorks  4 года назад +1

      There’s nothing that really prevents that per se. I’m primarily a woodworker not a speargun maker so my mindset was to make a laminated blank for the purposes of strength and to minimize warping due to wood movement. If it’s a solid blank, it could bend or twist over time and that would effect the integrity of your track and the accuracy of your gun.

      Not specific on numbers for that but it has a similar weight and feel to teak. Probably a bit lighter.
