From Wood to Water Episode 1 - The Build - Key West Waterman Wahoo prototype

- In this Build Video, we design and build out the prototype for Key West Waterman's (excellent youtube channel) Bluewater Speargun that he plans to offer on his website. We go into detail on the amount of labor intensive steps it takes to bring a speargun from block to concept to final product. You can find Key West Waterman's RUclips and website link below along with the Koah Spearguns link. Thanks for the support and we hope you enjoy the build.

This was amazing, you rock John. I could watch that CNC go for hours. Something about it!
Thanks brother! During the summer they run everyday making a mess of high pitched sounds. Come by anytime when you want to watch them run a set
Found your channel through Key West Waterman
I’m a woodworker and also a big fan of Aaron and the Key West Waterman channel, so this is the best of both worlds for me. Your blanks appear laminated. Is that for better stability than a solid block would provide? Do you use epoxy for the glue-ups, or another kind of glue? I would love to see more in-depth footage of the build process itself. I never thought I would see how a spear gun is built. Very interesting. Thank you
Thanks Nick, some processes we will not show due to proprietary reasons . Laminated stocks provide long term straightness and stability for the stock. We use epoxy for most laminations along with other additives for bonding strength
Worth every penny
I have your 57 fatback. It’s an awesome gun. We do a lot of scuba spear fishing off the Alabama gulf coast for red snapper, amberjck and cobia. That 62” breakaway looks super sweet. Keep the videos coming.
Really cool channel, was watching Key West Waterman and found out about it. I have built 14 guns working on my 15th, really cool to see how your shop is set up. The old conventional reel with the band Tying line is way cool I might borrow that idea.😊
Looking forward to more videos, thanks for sharing
Thanks for my BG 2.0! She’s a beaut! Cool to see how she was born!
I was inspired to build my own design by my first Koah. I love it. I have since built version 3.0.
Love the look of the new Bluewater.
Well done. Enjoyed the content. I'm sure Arron will approve.
Great idea for a channel and great episode! Looking forward to the future episodes!
Very Cool John, love you doing this and getting back into the passion of why you started the business. You’ve seen my Son and I grow up around this sport and your brand which was more about you than the Brand. We the picture of you, your shop, and my boy picking up his first gun 10 years ago. Keep at it and looking forward to fishing with you soon.

Pretty guns
Thanks, I enjoyed watching this. I hope you will continue to make videos. Best wishes.
Planning to! Thanks for the watch!
Beautiful work as always!
Beautiful spearguns!!!! never miss....
Great video, but a bit lacking in background information. For example:
1. What type of wood do you use? Does it matter?
2. Are the blanks laminated or whole blocks?
3. Are the guns just varnished, or is any extra protection added prior to varnishing? e.g., a clear epoxy coating?
Also, is the reel just thought of as a line holder, or is there a ratchet and/or drag on it that could be used to help reel the fish in?
I understand if you don't want to go into parts of this any further as they are proprietary information. But I think a little more information would improve the content.
Many thanks for taking the time to create, edit and post this.
I pretty much have the same questions. If anything is proprietary just let us know. We don't want you to give away your secrets.
I would suggest you pick up a couple of microphones. Your audio could be a little cleaner. Thanks for the video. I look forward to future build and test projects.
Thanks for the feedback! You are correct in assuming some of the processes are proprietary, but I will work some of your questions into the upcoming episodes.
Thanks so much. @@Koahspearfishingco
Nice
Nice work guys!
Love the content! Love Key West Waterman too. I would love to know what software you use to design and program the g code on the cnc? I have a cnc but its way to small for 62 in. lol
What a weapon!😮😊
there ain't no way buddy just popped that wishbone in like it was nothing... I just sat here for 5 minutes working on 1 band...
After a couple thousand bands it gets easier
How do you know how much ballast to put into a wooden speargun? Also do you cut the bands on both guns the same length? Nice video
The spearguns have a base ballast and have the variable ballast for trim weight.. the bands on both the prototypes were the same length but different diameter
What do you use to make the hole for enclosed track?
a router makes the track
