There was a story going around when this song was released that a record producer was walking somewhere in New York and heard this guy singing in his apartment and was so enamoured that he tracked him down to record him. Amazing voice and amazing song, hard to believe this was his only hit.
I had forgotten about this song. It’s so smoothe and sweet. I love this song. His voice blends so well with the chorus. Beautifully done. It even includes that old school talking mid song as well. Thanks for posting
@@jessieball6195 I’m not sure about that. I’m from Australia & New Zealand, where it was much more white assimilation and stuff with the 80’s which meant you’d get a lot of Australian rock music and all that, you’d get the generic pop music and stuff here and there, but us islanders are distinct and specific with what songs and genres we love - and I didn’t really hear this growing up around me with the media attention. Unless you were raised and around certain ethnic groups here who love and follow this genre of music and stuff. That’s why I was specific on the Polynesian community - because everyone here has their own tastes and stuff varying cultural background/nationality wise here. We are aware of the pop culture around us within the country we live in. And sure, we are aware of it and know it, but the songs were just not up to our taste - it all comes down to preference for certain communities. Plus songs and movies took so long to reach us here from the US as well back then. I think we were like almost a year behind or so with certain pop culture from the US. That’s why I said it the way I did with the comment 😎
@@ltmg9832 Don't know about the South Pacific island nations, but this song reached number one (or close) in MANY countries around the world after it debuted in 1986.
Wow, the slow dance about half way through the night then at the end..so sad that people won’t really experience that feeling we had and the fact the songs being us right back.
I believe that Gregory Abbott was an original member of Sly and the Family Stone in the early 70s. He left the group when the drug usage got heavy, and decided on a solo career. This was his biggest hit as far as I know. So smooth yet enticing.
I remember those days, used to asst. manage a club here in San Francisco and I remember Sly coming in with his asst, called Buddha who would talk for him because he was so high on pcp and pot ( and God only knows),I remember asking Sly why he couldn't talk himself which didn't go over well, but hey.
We do random song Friday at work and this was the song that popped up on my playlist last week lol. Nobody had any idea what it was but they all loved it and had to add it. 😂. Smooth and sweet 💕
I was born in 1970, so the decade of the 80’s cover every milestone of my early life. From prepubescent, adolescent, teenage, and finally early adulthood. This was my decade. I know the music from this time was mostly poppy, bubble gum, neon colors type music, but I will argue that the 80’s also had R&B that could rival Motown at it’s height. We still had Smokey Robinson, Chaka Kahn, and Tina Turner making hits and a new generation which included Keith Sweat, Mr Abbott, and of course, Whitney Houston. I’d like to suggest You Should Be Mine (The Woo Woo Song) by Jeffrey Osborne.
you guys always bring such a smile to my face this music is pure gold classic i am 41 and grew up with all these and wow you guys know it the magic haha pure heart
I was in my early 30's when this came out. I fell in love with Gregory! I bought the cassette AND the album (for the pictures mostly). I'm now 65 and he still makes this old motor purr!
3:07 how did he know when to hit pause? It was right before the small speech before the bridge.. synchronicity? Did his musical subconscious know that the music was about to suddenly change? After the speech is an element that leads up to the bridge and then redirects you back into the chorus. Literally making love to your brain. This whole song is brilliantly arranged. And so nostalgic.
My favorite top sexy love songs: 3 - Gregory Abbott - Shake you dpwn 2 - Marvin Gaye - Sexual healing 1 - Marvin Gaye - Let's get it on - ...this is by far !!! ....the most played sexy love song in every single sexy situation on movies or tv shows... and i think everyone agrees with me... 😂😂😂
I didn't think I knew this song, but I do&it's better than I remember I personally want to thank you guys&others for what you are doing, it is appreciated
Girl, I've been watching you, I wanna shake you down lol. This was one of those "office" music hits that if you went to the dentist or doctor you could've heard it haha.
This is one of a trio of songs that takes me right back to 1986. This song, along with Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is" and Peter Cetera and Amy Grant's duet "Next Time I Fall" we're all over the radio that year.
As soon as the music drops... ❤️mmmm it just grabs me, spins me around and takes me all the wayyyyy to that place that FEELS GOOD💯❤️ Beautiful reaction Asia and BJ❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I totally forgot about this song!! Man, I love it. Thanks to whoever requested it. It reminds me of the great days of Motown and of Marvin Gaye!! Great song!!
Doesn't get much better than this. Awesome song! You guys should check out Billy Ocean as well. Carribean Queen (official video), Suddenly, Loverboy, When the Going Gets Tough - the Tough Get Going (official video for this is a MUST).

When this comes on, I can’t help but snap my fingers and dip. ❤
I miss R&b balads, rock balads, pop balads... It'was so conventional love songs in any musical genre and people dancing this together that era! ❤️
Shake You Down ,I would play this song over and over ,one of my fav. Thanks for the great reaction . Good vibes ❤🤗
No problem!!❤️
This is old school stuff and this is real music
I loved this song back in the day. Very sensual and great for slow dancing. Doesn't seem like that style of dance exists anymore? 😄
So sad that young people shut down the era of slow dancing and would rather not even play slow songs at the club or the party.
Wow, the slow dance about half way through the night then at the end..so sad that people won’t really experience that feeling we had and the fact the songs being us right back.
this slow jam takes you all the way to heaven 😎
I freaking loved this song as a kid!!!! Thanks for the reaction
