This album was released in 1979, remember hearing this song and Rock with You constantly on the radio as an 8 year old and thinking even then what cool songs they were. Love hearing them in the car when either are played, just puts you in a good mood
@@TiltonRD very true, he wrote many songs for many artists including Quincy. It always surprises me that he's not mentioned enough. I wonder how both albums would be without his songs. But when I listen to human nature written by someone else, only MJ can sing it.
This was a fun roller skating song back in the day. This whole album is fire (as the kids say now). 😂This track was written by Rod Temperton. Look him up. He was incredible.
Roller skating to this was a memory that I hope to never forget!! I def thought I was the baddest Azz on that rink with my 7th grade self moving to it 😂
MJ did all the background vocals himself for this song. There's a video on here for the production vocal breakdown of this song that will blow your mind if you checked it out
i remember in 79 my sister bringing this album home,,,they played the wheels off that record,,,,,awsome album,,,,,few years later thriller came out and blew everyone away,,,amazing period
Believe it or not, this was Michael's 5th album but it was the first one that, as BJ said, was produced by Quincy Jones which really launched his popularity as a solo artist. This album also had Rock With You, Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough, She's Out of My Life, and Workin' Day and Night but all the songs are fabulous!
This was 1979, Michael Jackson's first major attempt at a solo record since Jackson 5 left the Motown label... 'Off the wall' is just a fun disco/ funk/ pop record ... and M.J. was only 20 yrs old at the time - it became a huge hit... bigger than any of The Jacksons' records of that era. It was definitely the precursor to 'Thriller' which came in 1982.
This album was so good and such a hot seller with almost every song a hit being played on the radios , nobody would’ve ever thought back in ‘79 that he would actually release an album after this one that was even better and more legendary…..
Even though Michael had four other solo albums. This one always felted like the first one because he had more control over the music on this album. This one came out in 1979 when I was elven years old.
What’s fascinating about “Off The Wall” is MJ was influenced by his time spent living in NYC for a year with Diana Ross while filming “The Wiz” and hanging out @Studio 54. When he talked to Rod Temperton and Quincy about his vision this was it. You can tell that “Thriller” was more Pop & commercial oriented. Most r&b classic stations still keep this in their rotation more often than “Thriller”.
Amazing! This is THEE album where Michael established his grown man personal sound & style. It is also the album that Don’t Stop Til Yiu Get Enough I’d from, where MJ sings the complete song in falsetto. Off the Wall is the title track of the album & is the predecessor to Thriller. What both have in common besides Quincy Jones’ production & bassist Louis Johnson of Brothers Johnson, is the composer of the songs, the late Rod Temperton. THAT man was one busy songwriter whom most reactors to music on RUclips would do well to familiarize themself with. Anyway, director Spike Lee did a documentary that can be found on RUclips or Netflix called, Michael Jackson’s Journey from Motown to Off the Wall. There are short interviews mixed in with many artists & even others like the late Kobe B. Definitely worth checking out. 👍🏾 Dance like Gumby 😂. That should be a song. Eddie Murphy used to do Gumby on SNL like he was a cranky Jewish guy.
Asia & BJ, you’ll LOVE Michael’s “I’ll Be There” and ‘Never Can Say Goodbye” from his Jackson 5 days!!!! edit- the classic argument, which album is better "Off The Wall" or "Thriller"?
Freshman in college when this album hit the clubs. It was everywhere for about 2 yrs. Imho, his best album, post Jackson 5. This was the album that cemented his solo credentials. Thriller, #2. 👈😉
My mom had this 8 track when I was a kid along with a lot of Olivia Newton John and Barry Manilow, Off the Wall is still my favorite Michael Jackson album
This album in my opinion is his best album. I danced to all of these songs and saw his off the wall tour in Oakland California. I was about 17 years old. It was awesome!
I'm Brazilian and in Brazil nobody sold more than Michael as an international artist. You have no idea how famous he was in other countries. He stopped any country, any city. He was a Genius!
This is such a great song! My one regret in life was giving away my MJ tickets. I was tired & didn’t feel like going. What a fool I was!! This was probably around 1987-88ish? 🤦♀️
this song was just one of the many hits written by former heatwave keyboard player Rod Temperton. he was consummate song writer who wrote hits for numerous artists in the 80's
As a kid I use to go rollerskating. When I had my children I took them to the rink. This was one of our favorite songs to skate to. Michael's "Don’t Stop 'Til You Get Enough" & Diana Ross "I'm Coming Out" were good ones too.
I love when Asia close her eyes and starts her “seated dancing”! We can see she’s in the mood for a real Disco Night 💃🕺🪩 Best wishes for you, guys!!!! ✌️
One of my fave albums Of MJ 1979 Album, I have it in my collection, I Also have Thriller, Dangerous, Bad, History, Invincible, Michael, Xscape, Blood on the dance floor etc. 😎🕺👑🎶🎵
My first album at age 6 1979 i asked my mom in my little kid voice Mommy can you buy me the record with the lady that sings Rock with you My Mom chuckled and then answered that ain't no lady that's a man she took me to the record store and there he was in a tux with a bow tie i knew who he was but didn't figure out til later that was him singing rock with you ❤iwas shocked the rest is history 😊😊😊😊
Ahhhhh my mj. He just does it right. I was in foster care when this song came out. My foster father was sexually abusive but when MJ came on, it took all that away just for a few minutes. I'll always believe Yah sent him and he was innocent just like a child.
I reguested this to the dj back in those fabulous days several times. EVERY weekend dancing with so much joy during those weekends feeling great and happy. Thnk you Asia and BJ
This song just broke into the top 10 on the hot 100 but I think it's one of his catchiest tracks. Kudos to BJ for knowing this was the work of collaborating with Quincy Jones.
That was a blast! Forgot about this song. So true. You can be having your worst day, head out to the club with your friends and dance your worries away. Music is the cure. ❤🎵
I remember when this album came out, I ran to get it! I wore that poor thing out! LOL So many great songs. Don't Stop till you get Enough is my favorite song on it!
This is my favorite album of Mike's and I remember in '09 about 4 months before he passed, I found a vintage looking turntable and went to see my siblings in Kentucky, went to a flea market and found original vinyl i.e. Off the Wall, Thriller, and all my favorite Earth Wind and Fire albums Spirit, I Am, Gratitude, All N All, etc. 2 of the albums had original posters 🥰 After Mike passed, I could get at least $3000 for Thriller alone.... didn't get rid of any of them 💜 I could not believe y'all had never heard this one 😉 Love the channel
This album preceeded THRILLER and sold very well. You want something more robust listen to WORKING DAY AND NIGHT. For more pop music there is ROCK WITH YOU. This record was played on radio, parties, nightclubs, and Studio 54, all day and all night. But you must also checkout the Jackson 5ive glide across the dance floor with SHAKE YOUR BODY (DOWN TO THE GROUND). Enjoy
Asia, you gotta listen to the whole Off the Wall album. a lot of my musichead friends/loved ones prefer it over Thriller. I don't choose when it comes to MJ, he has something to offer me every album lol.
Michael worked his tail off on this album and on Thriller. Finished reading recently the whole story behind it and it's quite insane yall. Working with Paul McCartney, Night Ranger along with Quincy Jones was out of this world. I highly suggest you have your patrons vote on you watching The Wiz where he played the Scarecrow. It was a cool movie. This went back to 1979.
In my opinion, "Off The Wall" was musically his best album; I sometimes call this album "Thriller 1.0" because it was precursor of what was to come in 1982. Regardless, Michael Jackson was a musical genius the likes we've never seen before and never see again. He was unreal!
What do mean you hearing this for the first time??? This is music every black household raises their children with, I grew up with tjis and I'm not even American 😮😮😮
My young life - watching the Jackson 5 on American Bandstand.....Few years later after haven't seen them in a while - out pops Michael Jackson solo with Off The Wall. The rest was history.
Hell we were dancing too this when it first came out everyone knew this whole album was pure gold a lot of great songs that made your girlfriend shake it and get into that groove. Rock with you and Don't StopTil You Get Enough. I've always like Workin Day And Night great bass.
This whole album is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The best in my opinion
This reaction couple is also 🔥
@@j-boscookin5988 yep. I have always thought this was his best album.
Workin' Day and Night is the true hidden gem on this album imo.
Better then Thriller
This album was released in 1979, remember hearing this song and Rock with You constantly on the radio as an 8 year old and thinking even then what cool songs they were. Love hearing them in the car when either are played, just puts you in a good mood
My favourite MJ album..the development of his sound, funky chops and groovy bass all there in spades..lovely reaction.
Off-the-wall is sadly so underrated people talk about Thriller a lot and it’s great but off the wall is amazing even better in my opinion
It was one of the biggest selling album then
Thriller sold more, but Mike was in his sweet spot with this. Classic album and it doesn't even sound dated...over 40 yrs later.
“Bad” never gets any love lol
Off the wall started everything
Black people usually call Off the Wall his best album and as a black person I agree
Hard to believe that in 1979 that four years later, Michael Jackson would release the best-selling studio album of all time!
Three years - "Thriller" came out in November of 1982.
Favorite MJ album as well. He and Quincy real made something special. Love everything about this tune!
Also Rod Temperton who wrote this song and Thriller along with numerous other songs for famous artists
@@TiltonRD very true, he wrote many songs for many artists including Quincy. It always surprises me that he's not mentioned enough. I wonder how both albums would be without his songs. But when I listen to human nature written by someone else, only MJ can sing it.

Rod was amazing! His songs with Heatwave were so good
You know that progressive commercial about teaching people not to be their parents? Lol that's you..."fire" 😂😘
@@musicalmelodies3595 😂😂😂
Roller skating to this was a memory that I hope to never forget!! I def thought I was the baddest Azz on that rink with my 7th grade self moving to it 😂
Was he the songwriter for Heatwave, or was that someone different?
The Off the Wall album was the one before Thriller. Don't Stop til You Get Enough was probably it's most famous song
MJ did all the background vocals himself for this song. There's a video on here for the production vocal breakdown of this song that will blow your mind if you checked it out
One of the most talented singer and musicians of all time ❤

With good writers
Guys you all have to thank Rod Temperton from England who wrote this and two more songs for MJ. The guy was a GENIUS
Workin' Day and Night is the true hidden gem on this album imo. Some of the punchiest horns you will ever hear.
There are just some songs that feel like a big, warm, comforting hug. This is one of them. Smoother than smooth.
The album is great from beginning to end.

Listen to him intently... you get a full display of his unique sound! So dope
This album was so good and such a hot seller with almost every song a hit being played on the radios , nobody would’ve ever thought back in ‘79 that he would actually release an album after this one that was even better and more legendary…..
Michael Jackson did many many songs, but this is my absolute favorite.
This is Pure MJ at the HEIGHT of his powers. Hands down the BEST and purest MJ Album before the slow unravel.
That bass line is absolutely out of control. WOW!
Kinda got shoved to the side by Thriller, but this was a huge album for MJ, lots of great songs and radio play.
One of my top 5 MJ hits. Underrated along with Human Nature
Another amazing Rod Temperton composition
Even though Michael had four other solo albums. This one always felted like the first one because he had more control over the music on this album. This one came out in 1979 when I was elven years old.
My favorite from this album is Working Day and Night, but the whole album is fire!!

Same writer as Always and Forever (Heatwave) and Rock with You
Saw him with The Jacksons when this album was released in 1979. The Isley Bros opened for them. Still the best concert I ever saw.
Fr? The Isley Brothers slay, that would've been crazy! 🤯
My mom had this 8 track when I was a kid along with a lot of Olivia Newton John and Barry Manilow, Off the Wall is still my favorite Michael Jackson album
The Genius of the LEGENDARY Iconic musical treasure Mr Quincy Delight Jones ❤❤❤❤❤
This album in my opinion is his best album. I danced to all of these songs and saw his off the wall tour in Oakland California. I was about 17 years old. It was awesome!

His best song hands down
I love this entire album. Between off the wall and thriller it’s hard 4 me to pick between the two

This was a Motown vibe because Michael Jackson was on the Motown label. Come on guys let’s do our history lol.
"Gotta let that fool loose deep inside your soOOuuuUUul" my favorite part of the song!
Get up AWF THAT WALL and head on down the Soul Train line lol
