A walk through the Welsh seaside resort of Llandudno from the town centre, down onto the promenade and Llandudno beach and then down to the Grand Hotel and Llandudno Pier
Llandudno is a coastal town in north Wales. It’s known for North Shore Beach and 19th-century Llandudno Pier, with shops and a games arcade. Northwest of town, the cliffs of Great Orme headland jut into the sea.

Llandudno is the largest holiday resort in Wales with a multitude of hotels, traditional B&Bs and other attractions. Uniquely situated between the Great and Little Ormes with two wonderful beaches, the iconic North Shore, with its sweeping bay and the quiet, sand duned West Shore.
Llandudno seafront has kept its Victorian and Edwardian elegance and splendour, despite its modern attractions. Check out its ever present beauty in this video showcasing some fantastic reasons to pay a visit looking at all the Llandudno Attractions.
Perhaps most notably, Llandudno was the regular holiday destination of Alice Liddell’s family, the same Alice Liddell who inspired Lewis Carroll ‘ titular character of the novel ‘Alice in Wonderland’. It is theorized that this wonderful resort and its majestic surroundings were inspiration for the extraordinary visuals of the story.
Known as the Queen of the Welsh Resorts, the ever-popular seaside town of Llandudno is a rich hive of history and memories. The mining settlement turned thriving tourist hotspot is famous for its Victorian architecture and stunning scenery, but there is more than meets the eye to the quaint coastal town.
Llandudno is a Victorian seaside resort that lies on the coast of North Wales. The town has enjoyed a reliable flow of visitors each year thanks to its fantastic reputation of being one of the best holiday destinations for UK travellers and holiday makers. Once a favourite town of Queen Victoria, Llandudno still maintains the very same charm that helped make a name for itself across the country.
I can highly recommend a visit to Llandudno North Wales

Fingers crossed it goes away sometime soon
My parents used to visit here from Liverpool a lot when I was a young girl and we loved it. I have been in Canada for over 40 years now and what wonderful memories this little video brought back to me. Thank you.

Went for first time in 2022. Loved it. the sweeping promenade. The goats. The Great Orme.
I'm irish and was there once way back in, I think 2002. I'm loving the places especially now as we can't travel around as much so walking around them from my sofa is great 😁 also enjoying the music on them 👌🎶
Thank you so much Karen!
Lived in Llandudno as a child so many happy memories of this town now live in Kent but my hart is always in North Wales and always visit the town once or twice a year thank you for posting this video 😃

I fell in love with Wales when I went to film this one!
Think I will be regular visitor like yourself!
How lovely to see Llandudno.Brought back fond memories of holidays there as a child.Travelling by car from South Wales
it took about 4 hours. We loved it so much as a family we even visited for long weekends.
I especially loved walking over Haulfre Gardens and looking down at Loretta Convent.Happy Days.
Ah lovely! Happy memories there Judith!
Came across your video today brought back a lot of memories, I lived and worked there in 1964 as Manager of the Palladium Theatre it used to me famous for the Agatha Christie plays in the summer season. After in closed it was sold to Surewin Bingo clubs and became a very well attended we then change over to Cine/Bingo for a time before buying the Odeon theatre the Palladium was closed and is now a Weatherspoons bar which I understand has kept a lot of the features of the Theatre I had a flat at the rear of the stage I had a ghost visit one Night but it turn out to be a Police constable, I had left a door unlocked But had a nice few years there. After leaving I went up to Blackpool and Manage the ABC Theatre in the late sixties early Seventies and had a great time there. Thanks for the memories of Wales Carry on Filming Alan Peel
Hi Alan
Wow you must have some amazing stories!! I bet you’ve bumped into a few famous faces along the way too?
The bar has kept things in tact - I will go and film it and pop it on the channel as it’s worth seeing ❤️❤️
@@GimbalWalkTV Yes I would love to see the inside, Yes I do have a lot of tales to tell but, some I dare not ,of all the number of stars I met both British and America the one I remember the most was Roy Castle a great man and entertainer, I could name drop like Tommy Steele, Engelbert, Cilla, Tarby, and even Harold Wilson but that,s enough for now. Thanks for the videos.
The Grand hotel is absolutely amazing
It’s been used for filming of many period dramas over the years
It’s huge and the views from bedroom windows are stunning 😊
It looks great - I might have to stop there
I took some photos from the exact same place that the Richard Gere film was filmed from - will post them in the Facebook group!
Watch out for the seagulls they can spot a bag of chips from a mile away 😀
Ha ha I would have found that out if I could have found a chip shop!
Or an ice cream lol.
My poor pound bakery 😢
A seagull did steal our ice cream cone in Llandudno once at the grand hotel
The most amazing place to live...our beautiful community is second to none!!
Well said Tracey!
I'm so lucky that I get to live in a town like this.
Agreed! Great place!!
How did you get to live in Llandudno? I seriously want to move there maybe in sheltered housing as my sister has ill health and I'm coming up to my retirement. I hope you can give me some tips. Thank you 😊😊
@@ruthtelling9237 to be honest it has been my home town since I was born and I moved away from it for a while but had to come back and to answer your question I am sorry to hear about your sister however I'm not sure what you could do I'll keep in touch
I've been going to Llandudno nearly all of my life with my parents and brother and sister. I miss not going this year, I thank you for sharing this video 🙏 ❤ 💜 💕 ♥. I've saved it on my tablet so now I can go to Llandudno anytime I want 😀 😊 ❤. You walked past two Hotels I've stayed in, and you passed near where my Mam's memorial bench is on the Promenade.
So certainly are.
I was born in Sheffield, England but was raised in the US. We used to spend our summers in Colwyn Bay, Whales and went to Llandudno many times. My best memory was when the Punch & Judy puppet shows were on the beach. In my adult years, I would visit every two years and Llandudno and Betsy-co-ed would be a must. Love Whales and all it has to offer. Rhos-On-Sea is also a wonderful place to visit. Would walk along the promenard from Colwyn Bay to Llandudno on warm days.
That sounds like pure heaven !
My mother is from Llandudno. She was a war-bride, met my American father at the arcade on the pier. My grandfather Owen Williams played drum and xylophone with the town band on the band stand. I visit St Tudnos as often as I can. And, Kings Head pub!
Just got back home from Llandudno. What a lovely place to be. My family and I have also been to Conwy Castle, Deganwy Castle ruins, Caernarfon Castle, the Great Orme, and Snowdonia. Amazing views
Oh yes - amazing place!!
I have a lot of memories of Llanduno and other N. Wales seaside resorts. Many a happy childhood holiday spent there. Nice to see that it hasn't changed too much. Thank you for bringing back so many memories.
YOu're so welcome Jane!
Thank you for watching my channel I really appreciate it! 👍
The last time I was in Llandudno was just a mere 2 years ago. I've known that very resort for all of 50 years now, and I still love it there to date. Thanks RUclips for letting me see what I've missed because of this perishing Covid pandemic.
Hopefully back to normal soon x
Thank you for this beautiful video. Lived there for a year and this made me so nostalgic. It's a pity west shore doesn't get more attention, although wilder, it has beautiful views on Penmaen Mawr and is a Sandy Beach.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you so much for watching my channel!
I used to come here every weekend with my dad he worked on the railway so we had free passes nice memories thank you
Ah nice! Happy Memories then!
llanddudno I loved it. A lovely beach resort. Your videography was amazing. It was like being there.
Thank you so much! ❤️❤️
I became the North Wales school sailing champion here in 1966. Love Llandudno.
Ah nice!
Agree - fantastic place!
I remember staying in Llandudno for a week in 1966. I was only 5 years old & the only things I remember about it was when I got a new bucket & spade set to take to the beach & the beach was all rocks & pebbles near where we were staying. I also remember getting on a cable car type of thing & going up the Little Orme & the Great Orme. We moved to Australia a couple of years later & I've never been back to the UK since. I have some wonderful memories of my first 11 years of life growing up in Huddersfield & then Netherton West Yorkshire. I really miss the Bluebells in the woods in Spring, the Robin Redbreasts & the snow but I like living in Queensland Australia too much & it doesn't snow here. I'm enjoying watching your videos, It's been bringing back memories of some of the places I visited as a kid even if they do look a lot different now.
The statue is the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland
One of many characters from the book that are all over Llandudno 😊
I wish I’d known this before filming I could have tried to find them all!
Gimbal Walk TV I have an amazing memory of places I’ve been ( so so many) I’m 65 now but I can remember back to when I was 7
Which was the last time I was in Whitby ( so much of it is just the same!)
Lovely video. We love Llandudno. Nothing better than a walk up the Orme on a summers day! Oo and an ice cream on the pier.
So true!
Went on a day trip for first time ever to Llandudno, what a beautiful place, would definitely go back. A good seaside town. Well done!
Thank you Mike - this was my first time there and will definitely go back!
I love your positive mood music, really cheers me up! North Wales is such a special place.
Always have to be positive! 👍❤️
Nice to see llandudno in this perpective..you miss it all when its your local shopping town. Can see great orm from my living room..I live on the straits in penmaenmawr, 20 years now. From liverpool originaly but have always come here to north wales...best place in uk..
Ah well said Wayne - lovely place!
So refreshing and pleasant walkathon at the dreamy sea front and now I wonder how it'd be like being here during monsoon to see the falling rain and listen to it fall !!!
Ah good point! I'd like to see that!
Love llandudno. Love the music! 👍
Thank you so much! I'm happy that you said that about the music too!
Thank you for watching my channel it really does mean a lot 👍
I grew up in Llandudno. Brilliant childhood memories. I moved out of Llandudno to Bethesda. So I love going back into Llandudno when ever I can. 😀 thanks for the video.
You're really welcome Keith - I make them for the exact reasons you just said
To bring back happy memories and make people smile!
I visited Llandudno about 3 years ago and it's lovely there. The hotels on the seafront look so nice in their pastel colours. I loved the pier best with all the gift shops and the cafe at the end. The town is good too with all the shops etc and there is a fantastic Weatherspoons which has been converted from a theatre which was once the Palladium. I really enjoyed watching this tour, thank you.
Ahh no I missed Wetherspoons whilst I was there - good excuse to go back though eh Stuart! Any excuse to go back is good for me - great place to visit!
What a fantastic video, thank you, lots of information and great music. 10 out of 10. Great advert for Llandudno and North Wales 🏴
Thank you so much! 👍
We went here on Sunday 30th August 2020. What an amazing day, the weather, the boat ride and walking down from the top of the "great Ome" to Llandudno Pier. Exhausting but well worth it. Unfortunately the trams were not working but the cable cars was, thank god for that, otherwise going back up would of been very tiring!!😉
You can buy Fresh fish and chips from the lighthouse 1st thing you see before getting on the Llandudno Pier. Love the video you made keep it up xxthanksxx
Thank you so much!
I 'm jealous you did the Great Orme - I need to do that!
You missed the Great Orme, the Little Orme & the railway. Amazing views. I was taken to Gogarth Abbey for lunch years ago: it was a real treat. M y Great Grandfather & his sons built many of the buildings along that part of the North Wales coast. Houses, hotels, schools; They were obviously very good builders, as the buildings are still there: or were 10+ years ago. I haven't been back since that time, but North Wales remains my favourite part of the UK. Thank you for your video; just one criticism, the background music ! I had to mute it as I found it intrusive.
Thank you so much for watching my channel!! Some great memories there by the looks of it!
Lovely stroll. We visited a couple of years ago for the first time. This brought it back, thanks.
Our pleasure! Thank you so much for watching!
Llandudno is our favourite place to visit. We especially love going up on the Great Orme, with the amazing views of both the crescent shaped bay and town and the Conwy estuary to the west. On a warm summers day you can imagine you are on the Med, the sea is so blue! The tram ride up is well worth doing.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for showing me part of Llandudno, where my grandmother, iris Caroline Cooper was born, late 1800's, in the family owned pub. 😊
I do have a photo of the pub somewhere, I'll have to find it.
Iris married, Henry Radcliffe of Mossley Lancashire where she move to after her wedding.
My family emigrated to Australia where I now live, in a suburb next to Brisbane, Qld .
Thankyou for your wonderful videos.❤❤❤❤❤
Would love to see that photo!
Thank you so much for the kind d words ❤️
Lovely to follow your walk where you capture the true essence of Llandudno a resort with something for every member of the family-
Agreed! Great resort!
I lived on Anglesey & used to go to Llandudno for a day out with my mother & Penny, her little pure white Jack Russel, who ran along the promenade chasing her ball. Lovely memories of that dear old place. The stature of the strange character with the top hat, is the mad hatter from Alice in Wonderland, & the author lived in Llandudno...lovely video thankyou!
Love living here, it truly is a beautiful area with a lot of hidden gems. The level of tourism makes living here almost unbearable at times, parking impossible in the busy months and difficult to work in the town. Enjoying the town in summer over lockdown was a blessing I don't think I'll ever get to experience again
Thank you so much for watching! 👍
Lovely place, we drive from Birmingham, before Covid ,we park the car at the great Orme summit, then catch a tram to Llandudno, wonderful.
Perfect!
Had a lovely relaxing time at Whitsun, excellent weather
Perfect - nothing finer Ian!
Great video , loved the sea and seagull sounds at the end , keep on doing what you do … great stuff
Love Llandudno, been visiting here for years.
Don't blame you Sylvia - lovely place and so clean!
Love Llandudno.l go to escape quite often.

Thank you so much Gordon that means a lot to me 👍❤️
Thanks for a super tour. Live in North Wales. Usually visit Llandudno two or the times a year, but with shielding have
,been grounded since early March. You have given me the opportunity of a delightful day trip. Llandudno looks as good as ever, congratulations to Conwy Council , hoteliers and businesses for presenting such a beautiful resort in these difficult times.
Well said David - all credit to all concerned for a beautiful and immaculately clean resort!
Thank you for watching my channel it really does mean a lot 👍
I’m so pleased to see how everything looks so beautiful 😍 Thankyou Dee
Thank you Doreen - it was my first ever time in Llandudno so I might have missed loads out so will do another one once I've researched it properly
Llandudno is one of the nicest places in the UK,. Highly recommend a holiday there..many happy times in this clean resort.
Ahh well said Raymond! Great place!
There are two beaches at Llandudno. The one here is the North shore which is linked by a wide dual carriageway boulevard, Gloddaerth Street, to the Towns West shore. The West shore, is a sandy beach, but more exposed, and the sea is perfect for wind surfers.
There is a nice walk from close to the pier, and runs from North to West shores, along a path which gives spectacular views across the town. The path has a fabulous little tea shop half way along it. Worth a try.
Thank you so much Bill I will go and explore that!
The path is called 'Invalids walk', and the tea rooms are in 'Haulfre gardens' which you will see first if walking from town towards the West Shore.
I love living in llandudno, it's got the lot. Great video thanks.
Thank you so much! Great place and we will definitely be coming back! 👍 I hope this video attracts a load of visitors to your beautiful town
This place will be special for me. Unforgettable. Love it
Ah good stuff! Great place!
Good fish and chips from Fish Tram Chips right opposite the tram station where you can catch a tram to take you up the Great Orme.
Perfect thank you John!
I was surprised how tricky it seemed to find somewhere!
The statute is the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. There are several around Llandudno, and a map trail to find them all! It’s because the inspiration for Alice lived in Llandudno ! 😀👍🏻
Thank you so much! I did wonder!
Almost right. Alice Liddell was the girl who Lewis Carroll based the the character on. She never lived in Llandudno, both her and Carroll holidayed here and some claim that he wrote "Alice through the looking glass", the 2nd book, based on Llandudno. The connection to the books is actually a bit of stretch but its a fun connection and we all embrace it.
I really like the songs. The Gower coast is also fabulous. The Welsh accent is my favourite.
Thank you Denise!
Thanks for watching my channel! 👍
Thank you, just what I needed. My family and I have been going to llany for years, its our favourite place in the UK. Great tunes. 😎👍
Glad you enjoyed it Thank you so much for watching my channel!
I’ve two holidays here in the last ten years
It’s a brilliant relaxing place to stay even in high season
So many bed and breakfasts at reasonable prices plus many coach package holidays too
The high street runs parallel to the the promenade it’s worth a look
There’s a Wetherspoons that’s a converted theatre 🎭 ( lovely )
Specialist Ice cream shop ( biggest selection of flavours I’ve ever seen)nearer the pier end on the high street
So many fantastic places to eat whatever food you like and to suit all budgets 😊
Well said!
That wetherspoons looks amazing!
Great video covering the entire beach and pier, allows me to plan ahead and where I should park, perfect and thank you!

Met my girlfriend from America for first time. After talking on net for 6 yrs. I'm from UK and been to N.Wales before. But not to Llandudno. We spent a magical week there in Aug 2020 also. First thing we saw there was our hotel covered in scaffolding. I found out then, that she was as jinxed as me. HA HA HA. But that didn't matter. The people there were great. The town was fantastic. We both had an amazing time there. Thank you Llandudno for making my dream come true. And that's finally after 53 yrs having someone to share life with. Awesome:))))
Ah amazing! Great story and thank you so much for watching my videos!
Another of my fave places I love North wales . Love the great or,me the most beautiful views been many times. Wonderful..every thing is so clean

Rooms are immaculate too. Be sure to walk round the Orme too. Its so good for the soul. Love everything about llandudno xx❤️

No not really. I love everything about llandudno, the tram, the victorian weekend, the victorian building , the very clean promenade, the list is endless. The hotel mentioned was a lucky find and ive just shared it with people who may want a decent place to stay. Thats all it is Bob Wallace.

The nicest place on earth in my modest opinion
Well said!
Beautiful place
It really is! Really lovely!
Thoroughly enjoyed your video. This brought back so many memories. I lived in Llandudno (Craig-y-don) in the early sixties and went to Mostyn School. My parents emigrated to Australia in 1965 and I have lived there ever since. Have visited the UK several times over the years and was fortunate enough to take my own kids to Llandudno in 1993. It was great to see so little had changed. I couldn't live there now well maybe in summer anyway.
Glad you enjoyed it Thank you so much for watching my channel!
Been to Llandudno so many times as my father was from there.
Nice! You'll know the place way better than I do then!
Very beautiful film . Wish I was there today 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you so much Doreen!
Has been on my list of places to visit for quite a while. Great walking tour.
Thank you 👍
The principal beach, North Shore, consists mainly of a magnificent crescent bay, with good bathing and firm sand (when the tide goes out). It faces the Irish Sea and is enclosed by two headlands, Great Ormes Head and Little Ormes Head. The other beach, West Beach, with its glorious views of the Conwy Estuary and the mountains beyond.
Lewis Carrol , the author of 'Alice in Wonderland', stayed in Llandudno with the Liddells, parents of Alice, the girl for whom Carroll wrote his famous story. Lewis Carrol is is the writing name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson who was born in All Saints' Vicarage at Daresbury, Cheshire, near Warrington, This is where his father was the reverend of the church. If you visit All Saints' Church in Daresbury, you will see some of the church windows depicting characters from Alice in Wonderland.
The pier is 2295 ft. long, it boasts of a landing stage and at the pier-head there used to be a concert hall.
There are four ways to the top of the 679 ft. high Great Ormes Head, they are, by toll road, ride up in comfort by Britain's longest cable car, which travels 5320 ft., by a funicular railway built in 1877 or on foot through the delightful Happy Valley. From the top on a clear day you can get a splendid view of Snowdonia and even, on occasions, the hills of Cumbria and the Isle of Man. A 5 mile Marine Drive is cut into the side of the cliff.
Such brilliant information there Roy thank you so much!
You've made me want to go straight back again!
Lovely! Thanks!
Thank you too!
That sculpture is tha mad hatter.
Ah thank you! 👍
I was here in September 1992. Lovely place. Many development took place since then.
I can imagine! I'm heading back there I think to do a new video!
Fantastic video, will visit when allowed.Particularly liked the sound track.
Thank you so much Colin - that means a lot ♥️
We regularly go to Llandudno when we are at our caravan in Mid Wales. Sometimes we go just for the day and sometimes we stay in our favourite Guest House for a couple of nights. I love the walk from the paddling pool down the prom, down the pier and back. Nice cuppa in the paddling pool cafe.Lifeboat station worth a visit too. We were there a couple of weeks ago and the weather was glorious, no waves at all in the sea. Calm as a millpond. Can't wait till they are again out of lockdown and we can go back. I am having problems walking nowadays so the next time will probably be using a mobility scooter. Just love the fresh air you can feel it doing you good. Thank you for the video.

You're so welcome Bridgette!
Great video !!
As a child of the 60's, I got so hooked on the music, I just closed my eyes to listen at first.
Then "rewinded".
I turned the music down a couple of notches, the second time over.
Then watched.
(Llandudno now on top of my bucket list....)

Visited here a few years ago, loved it and the weather was perfect.
Ah good! Can't beat it in the sunshine!
I enjoyed every minute of Llandudno. I came across your RUclips walkabout site by accident and have so much more to look forward to. I watched them on my Oculus VR so felt I was really there. The music was great too and I learned so much along the way. It was nothing like I imagined. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
I have some VR videos coming up so stay tuned to the channel and I'll film them in full 360 VR for you!
