As an International mature student who once live in Lewes East Sussex my best coastal town is Littlehampton (like the fish n chips and Body Shop factory/products) and Eastbourne because of the miniature train rides and the walk along the coast to the seven sisters cliffs. Cheers
It is an interesting definition of "seaside town" that includes Rye and St David's - both of which are actually two or three miles from the sea, with actual countryside between the towns and sea; and neither of which has a seafront, promenade or beach within its urban area! Also, beautiful though North Berwick is, the good mix of shops that once existed within its town centre now only really caters for the wealthy classes. I guess this is what happens when people make films about places they've never actually been to...!
Very surprised that Scarborough in North Yorkshire isn't included. It has almost everything except a swimming pool or theatre. Two very different bays both with wide golden sandy beaches. The South Bay built with children in mind, lots of amusement arcades candy floss shops and a working harbour with plenty of pleasure boats or sea fishing boats that will take you out several miles to access deep water species. The North Bay is more sedate aimed at relaxed folk, no amusements at all but several good restaurants overlooking the sea. In between is a magnificent headland that has a ruined castle overlooking both bays. The castle was destroyed during WWI by a German cruiser which was trying to destroy the harbour, obviously not a very good gunnery team. The South Bay is overlooked by the huge Royal Hotel, designed and paid for by the actor Charles Laughton who was born locally. 365 rooms many with sea views, four Turrets which are also rooms. Personally we would never stay there as it isn't adequately heated out of season when we like to visit. There is ample parking and quiet cheap along the headland, over 1.000 spaces. I could go on but it's beginning to become a book.
Open Air Theatre?? Peasholm Park/Glen. The miniature railway. Sealife Centre at Scalby. The Alpamare water park. As for the interior.... well ... just look it up. Forge Valley, Hackness, the North York Moors etc etc.
Glad to see so many people commenting on Cornish resorts. Thereagain, that is the county I grew up in so I am rather biased (as Cliff Rightmove would say.
Whitby defiantly .I live along the coast in Hartlepool and ive met people from all over the UK who travel to Whitby been so popular it population trebles in the holiday season and to get there the most pleasant train journey through the Esk Valley and is also the setting for Bram Stokers Dracula.
Most of these look quite small, a bit boring for the lone holidaymaker. For instance I had a day trip to Filey (from Scarborough) four years ago, saw it all in half an hour. My favourites: 1 Torquay, for scenery and excellent choice of beaches 2 Ramsgate, as a base for day tripping 3 Scarborough 4 Brighton, culturally I don't feel at home but lots of good pubs and restaurants.
Who the hell compiled this list? Probably the best location for people taking 'seaside' holidays in the UK at the moment is Cornwall. None of the Cornish resorts get a mention in the top 10, which is ludicrous. Dartmouth doesn't have a beach and is on a river estuary FFS.
Rye is a charming old town with a unique atmosphere. But a seaside resort? It has no beaches and even in the 1950s and 1960s, I never saw anyone in Rye with a bucket and spade. Its' proximity to the sea is similar to that of Arundel and Chichester.
Don't agree everyone has different aspects, I have been around the Country, Newquay is a great holiday destination, I like Cornwall, Devon Dorset, all have great places to enjoy, like Norfolk too, every one is different
Just what parameters did you use in your definition of "best SEASIDE" town? Many do not have a sea beach and therefore do not qualify. I can also criticise your omission of some of the many resorts in Cornwall, especially Newquay, which has many specialised beaches to suit all tastes, from the family beach at Porth to the Town Beach adjacent to the active harbour to the surfers' beach at Fistral. It is my opinion that this list has been compiled from tourist brochures without even a cursory visit. A worthless review.
Ventnor is terrible, the second I got there I left, it has absolutely no life in it, all the shops were shut and most looked like they'd not been open in a while. I've given up on seaside holidays in the UK, they are either crap or really expensive, or both. I went to shanklin in the summer gone only to be bitterly disappointed by it, and the cottage (which was dark cramped and musty) was not cheap. My aunt's boyfriend (in France) owns a house he rents out in the summer and it costs the same amount despite it being much bigger, and being really nice
I like Dartmouth but not really a beach resort, been told by locals that out of season it can be quite rough at night, now, if you say St Ives, well, that’s a resort but not Dartmouth as number 1. Who makes this statistics .
Honestly they’re all pretty average, there’s at least 10 Cornish seaside towns better than this. St Ives, Newquay, Falmouth, Fowey, Hayle and Looe are literally all better than Dartmouth. Also Rye is dead.
Go to Looe in the winter it’s dead, all the beautiful cottages are owned by big organisation as summer lets ,outrageous, and half of Cornwall is second homes ,a total disgrace 🥵
@@Kinglear1527 if it’s untrue why are the ones I’ve mentioned more popular? St Ives and Newquay attract more visitors than any other one in the list? Plus naturally far nicer, very low crime rates and the home of water sports? The only downside are second home owners but every decent place has them in England now
Michael B you are very obvious Cornish,no bad thing,But I am afraid you are so bias, this report on seaside location is absolutely excellent although I don’t agree with all his choices he is pretty spot on with his assessment of the locations ,Cornwall has been spoiled something chronic by the kiss me quick cockneys,I used to love Cornwall as I lived on the border for 70 years,it has been ruined, the council’s should ashamed of themselves such a great county and the Cornish people the salt of the earth,be realistic it’s a shadow of its old self 🥵🥵🥵
Same as everywhere when the rich start buying summer homes then rob the communities of their local bias and turn places into winter ghost towns. Second homes everywhere should be banned.😡😡😡🤔😬
There's a reason Cornwall and Devon are very expensive to go on holiday in, everywhere by the sea in Britain is either rubbish, too far north (nothing against the north or Scotland, but it's too cold there for the beach) or really expensive
The learning canteen is as strange a title as the inane commentary. I watch it as part of my comedy line up and have great laughs at the fact that it’s conclusions are based on nothing at all. In fact as a resident of one of the included towns I feel strangely insulted by its inclusion. One way of making money from your armchair with the minimum of effort I suppose.
So....i imagine time share vacations are popular there. They eere here gor about 10 years until people really realized it was a money drain costong thousands that leave you owning nothing.
Southwold is the most horrible town u could live in no shops nothing for locals no banks no jobs full of ponsey 2nd home owners no real transport, people are not friendly, it's a horrible place to live
Tynemouth was lovely. We stayed in Durham in June and had a day at Tynemouth and Cullercoats. Very impressed.

Bamburgh beach and Seahouses is lovely. Usually quite low on Neds as well.
Whitesands beach st David's is nice but little way out of town .
Waaaaaaaaaaa😂
Wife an' I visited Southwold many moons ago and loved every minute.
Good old Filey by the sea so proud it made your list .
My mum lives there.

It’s got a fabulous theatre ! A beautiful Art Deco building
Yep, the famous Theatre-in-the-Round S.J.T....Stephen Joseph Theatre@@susanyork5089

What about Lynmouth and Lynton in North Devon. Also Weymouth in Dorset.
Beautiful coastline around 😍
Thumbs up for Weymouth!!
Excellent
So many nice seaside beaches in the UK and you have to include those that aren't even by the sea!
Whitby and Scarborough.
Glad to see so many people commenting on Cornish resorts. Thereagain, that is the county I grew up in so I am rather biased (as Cliff Rightmove would say.
No Tenby, Newquay and St Ives Cornwall
The seagulls are thugs in st Ives
Broadstairs in Kent should be on here with its lovely town, harbour and 7 magnificent bays.
Love Dartmouth and Southwold
Blackpool great place to go
Whitby? Robin hoods bay?
Whitby defiantly .I live along the coast in Hartlepool and ive met people from all over the UK who travel to Whitby been so popular it population trebles in the holiday season and to get there the most pleasant train journey through the Esk Valley and is also the setting for Bram Stokers Dracula.
Filey is perfect , unspoilt and bang in the middle of a glorious bay
How about Exmouth?
Most of these look quite small, a bit boring for the lone holidaymaker. For instance I had a day trip to Filey (from Scarborough) four years ago, saw it all in half an hour. Saundersfoot in wales is very nice
How wonderful Britain, coast...
Whitby and north Berwick also lovely
I live very close to Southwold. Lovely pubs, and fish caught by the chippies own boat.
Swanage is great with the Purbeck Hills, Aberaraon is difficult to get to, Rye picturesque, the best beaches are THE Gower.
Love Dartmouth , beautiful harbour and castle , also love Whitby which is not on your list
Bournemouth has a long beach and Weymouth too.
Bournemouth is shit
I went to Bournemouth a few weeks ago.. Lovely beach nice area not a run down dump.
Who the hell compiled this list? Probably the best location for people taking 'seaside' holidays in the UK at the moment is Cornwall. None of the Cornish resorts get a mention in the top 10, which is ludicrous. Dartmouth doesn't have a beach and is on a river estuary FFS.
Facts Dartmouth isn’t even the best place in Devon. Cornwall has about 10 better towns
Cornwall is full of Neds in summer, not good
Devon and Cornwall are probably the best sidmouth is a nice rocky seaside I went yesterday it’s lovley
Iam lucky enough to live not far from tynemouth
Rye is a charming old town with a unique atmosphere. But a seaside resort? It has no beaches and even in the 1950s and 1960s, I never saw anyone in Rye with a bucket and spade. Its' proximity to the sea is similar to that of Arundel and Chichester.
Anyone going to Rye for a seaside break is going to be disappointed.
I used to have a caravan at Camber Sands 3 miles from Rye which only has a harbour and small town
Don't agree everyone has different aspects, I have been around the Country, Newquay is a great holiday destination, I like Cornwall, Devon Dorset, all have great places to enjoy, like Norfolk too, every one is different
Newquay and St Ives are so much better than any of the other places in this list. Dartmouth isn’t even the nicest place in Devon let alone the UK
Cromer and Sheringham are beautiful in Norfolk
What criteria did you use to come to this list ....have you been to Salcombe Poole, Tenby ,St Ives for example
I love North Berwick x
I prefer Southwold!! Haven't been there since 1989.
There are also plenty of nice resorts along the Scottish coast around the Clyde estuary which is the most scenic area ever.
What about Lyme Regis?
It will be included in next months edition.
Good for families if you like the artificial sandy beach and noise!
Hmm what about Leicester , Bolton and Stow on the Wold ?
Stow on the wold is not a seaside 😅
Does it also have the best sewage?
anywhere on the ISLE OF WIGHT ( the sunshine island )
Ramsgate and Dover in Kent is the best by me.
i like CORNWALL especially St. Ives, this is load of ball.
Football , tennis ball or cannon ball ?
Why no Isles of scilly, or st. Ives
I'm actually surprised that Isle of Wight wasn't in the top three best seaside towns in England..
Exactly
And now you can enjoy all that sewage being pumped into your coastline.🙂🇪🇸🇪🇺
You could have shown a picture of St David's Cathedral, not the gatehouse.
What about lovely, classy Eastbourne?
Tenby is beautiful
St ives, Cornwall number 1by a mile

This review is the best Seaside resort in the uk? Based on what exactly??? Lol
You're trying to have a conversation with chat gpt bud 😂
@@ianmeyer2652based on chat gpt. Did you think a human is involved in this loop?
What about Weston Supermare. It's the best.
Learning Canteen made a list of the 10 worst seaside resorts and Weston was on it.
Forget the east coast unless you want persistent cold wind off the north sea for 9 months of the year ...Swanage wins for me
Whitby, Weymouth, Ventnor and many others would all be better than any on this list..
Whitby is too busy.
@@ianhirst1148 I've been & stayed in whitby many times. It's brilliant. It can be busy but that's cus its good.

Looe in Cornwall. Lovely place.
Lytham St Annes?
Llandudno has to be in that top 10.

Tynemouth is in Tyne and Wear but was historically in Northumberland.
What about mumbles, or Tenby?
Allonby and Silloth in Cumbria
🤣🤣🤣
I could not get why Brighton did not get a place in your list of one among 10 best seaside towns in the UK
It remains to say it doesn’t matter how good the Beach is.
If you can’t go into the water because of sewerage in it it means it’s crap.
The only problem with ANY location in the UK is the unpredictability of the weather...🤣🤣
And now illegal immigrants.
Is this pre dingy invasion or up to date
This is the best list of costal cities if you're 75 and willing to retire in a quiet seaside place to die.
Aldeburgh?
Great, thank you! Good ideas.
Seriously now, how is St Ives not on this list??
No place to park. Steep streets.
Tynemouth is not in Northumberland. Although I wish it were.
I could look through TripAdvisor myself and come up with a list if I could be bothered 🤣🤔🥴
What! No Cornwall!?
This list is wrong. All 10 are in Devon and Cornwall.
I agree number 1 for me has 2 be looe Plymouth is also on my list watching the navy ships come into Davenport is a must

Magaluf...
Ridiculous that there are no Cornish towns.
Enjoyed that 👍
"New towns are developing at the seaside"??? These places have all been at the seaside - or near it - for a long time!
