I'm in my late 60's, I have never lived in the south nor have any of my extended family. I live across the country on the West Coast but I have heard that phrase hundreds of times. I don't think it's a southern "thing", I think it's a Christian thing. Doesn't matter where you come from, you have probably heard the phrase, said it or both. In the ''old' days I often heard it said as "going home to meet his/her/their maker. Now I hear the word "maker" being replaced with Lord, Heavenly Father, etc. But there is one constant in the phrase which is "going home." :)
This song always chokes me up. It's both extremely sad and yet full of hope that when all the BS on Earth is over that we'll land in our happy place. "That's What I Love About Sundays" won't set off any waterworks. It's just a happy, simple storytelling song. It makes my heart happy and reminds me of my childhood Sundays - he's a wonderful artist!
My brother spent 25 years living rough. He would come home to visit and restock on supplies. 2015 a pastor found him dying of cancer in the mouth and throat. We flew him home and I was his hospice nurse until the end. We played this song at his memorial.
As many have commented, "That's What I Love About Sundays" is a great Craig Morgan song. Also, if you want just a silly, light hearted song, "International Harvester" is fun.
This is what country life is all about, it’s my childhood too. I can visualize every memory he sings. I can even smell the fresh cut hay. Beautiful song! ♥️
This is such a moving song. The lyrics take you to another place and Craig Morgan's voice is beautiful. For me though I can't ever say I " enjoy" this song because it is so gut wrenching. Picturing the homeless man huddled in the freezing rain and snow sleeping on the frozen ground behind some garbage cans just rips my heart out. I see the "almost home" part as an allegory to his freezing to death and reaching heaven. Many homeless people suffer terribly from mental illness and just add the horror and loneliness of being homeless on top of it. I won't go into detail, but this hits very close to home for me. It's literally gut wrenching. 😢
I have always gotten the same message from this song. It's one of my favorites, because I can "almost" feel the sun and smell the hay...brings back lots of summer memories from my childhood. But.... I think when the old man says " I was almost home", he meant almost to Heaven, and reunited with his family. He wanted to die. 😞
I came all to the comments to see if anyone else had received this message. He was so close to his happiness/heaven and the man waking him pulled him from that path that he just wants to go back to.
Love this song, he was great right out of the gate. Tough is another great Craig Morgan song, also "Thats What I Love About Sundays. Craig started his Country Music career after he got out of the military, very stand up guy.❤
Craig Morgan is the greatest country singer that never quite got his due. He is very good! I Know you love fun stuff and Morgan has those as well. "Red neck yacht club" is amazing summer jam.
I am so glad you've reacted to a second Craig Morgan song. He is definitely a class act and a wonderful story teller not to mention a proud veteran. Please check out "That's What I Love About Sundays" by Craig Morgan next. Having grown up in a very small Christian town in South Arkansas I get goose bumps every time I listen to that song. Thanks for all you do and have a great day.
My family and I saw Craig Morgan when he was touring with Tracy Lawrence in Hardeeville, SC back in 2003! Tracy Lawrence didn't want to come out of his trailer to honor "back stage" passes because of the heat. The crowd started to get rowdy and Craig came back out and calmed the crowd down and threw lots of his merchandise to the crowd as he threw the best concert we'd ever been to in our lives! He was the HERO that night! Craig Morgan is what every artist and person should be like! Honorable and a great human! I will always be a fan of Craig Morgan ❤️
Love this story of the Old Man Dreaming & Wishing He was home (Heaven). He has a lot of great songs Fun & Sad one’s. Thank You for doing this one & great reaction.
Since you really liked Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee", definitely check out Craig Morgan's "Red Neck Yacht Club". Same vibe of summer fun on the water.
I like this song. The homeless man in the song, his memories remind me a little bit of my childhood. Dirt roads, cane pole fishing, climbing trees. Beautiful song.
Craig Morgan is an incredible writer with a powerful voice. He knows how to cut into the soul and really make you feel. Not many artists have the ability to make you feel raw genuine emotion like Craig. Im a complete metal head elite thru and thru and not much for country but Craig is right at the top of my favorite list along with metal greats. You know you're an amazing artist if you can connect so sincerely with people from genres totally opposite of the spectrum. He's a powerhouse.
Nice choice with Craig Morgan! Can't pick a bad song and this is definitely one of his best. My favorite by him. It brings me back to the good ole days! Thanks for the reaction.
As a kid, I grew up listening to music like this. Wish I could go back in time to when this type of music was the norm. I love the story-telling in music. Puts more meaning to what you're hearing.
I had forgotten that Craig Morgan did this! I knew this song from the first chords! This is a great song, very moving. He is like you said a great story teller and his voice brings beings out the feels!
In the early spring of 2001 I graduated from the US Army Infantry School at Fort Benning , GA. At our “turning Blue” ceremony (when soldiers become infantrymen by putting on our Blue Cords and Blue Disc’s, which is solely reserved for us 11 series soldiers) Craig Morgan’s Paradise was played. One of Craig’s first songs. It’s autobiographical for him, as it deals with his time with the 82nd ABN DIV, and the 101st ABN DIV. PARADISE by Craig Morgan. Check it out brother, from one veteran to another. It’ll touch you.
There was no one better to write this song. Craig is an Afgan Veteran-Hero! Huge fan of all his work but, my very favorite remains his first hit “What I Love About Sundays”
THIS was my kids favorite song when it first came out...they are now 33, 35 and 38!! Times flies!! You MUST REACT to This Ain't Nothing!! By Craig Morgan it is SO TOUCHING!!
Craig, LOVE your reaction to Craig! Okay, like you said it is your second time, but I liked saying that. This song reminds me a lot of my father and the stories he used to share with me about his growing up and the adventures that he had as a young boy. I think you would enjoy "What I Love about Sunday" from Craig as well. Check it out! As always Thank you for sharing this journey with us.
When I die I wànt them to play this song. Bailing hay, as a kid, and my moms pies, amd swimming in our shitty pond! Those memories are with me today. By most peoples standards, they dont mean anything, but those of us who lived it they are priceless.
Craig's beautiful voice is showcased nicely in this song. A passionate storyteller you visualize the whole story in your heart and mind. Absolutely a pleasure to listen to. Great reaction Craig. Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Oh my gosh! Another Craig Morgan reaction! Thank you so much. He is the best!! For a more upbeat song of his to react to, try What I Love About Sunday.
Check out another craig morgan song, "This Ain't Nothing" its a great song that kind of embodies part of the American spirit. And even goes along with the hurricane recovery some of us are going through right now.
THE FATHER, MY SON AND, THE HOLY GHOST! HE WROTE AFTER HIS 19 YEAR OLD SON DROWED IN AN ACCIDENT WHILE ON A SKI TRIP ON VACATION! I WAS ALMOST HOME WAS WRITTEN ABOUT A HOMELESS MAN, HE WAS ALMOST FROZED TO DEATH WHEN HE FOUND HIM AND WOKE HIM UP, THAT'S WHY HE GOT MAD AT HIM, FOR WAKING HIM UP, HE HAD ALMOST MADE IT TO HEAVEN, WHEN HE WOKE HIM! THAT'S WHAT I LOVE ABOUT SUNDAY'S IS A BEAUTIFUL SONG OF HIS ALSO! CRAIG MORGAN IS A GREAT SINGER/SONG WRITER, HE'S A VERY UNDERRATED CROUNTRY MUSIC SINGER, TO ME HE'S ONE OF THE GREATEST COUNTRY SINGER'S, HIS SONG'S ARE FROM THE HEART AND, ALL HAVE A MEANING TO THEM!! A GREAT RABBIT HOLE YOU WON'T REGRET GOING DOWN I PROMISE YOU THAT!
If I die, and get this kind of comfort, I would hope people would leave me alone as well. God can give us comfort. God's comfort will not be just a story. This is a beautiful song.
This is a very beautiful song. I didn’t see a video for it. I thought there was. I might have been thinking of Emerson Drive’s song “Moments.” . I recommend Hal Ketchum’s “Swing Low”. It’s also quite similar in away.
Nice reaction, as always! Thank you! Check Craig on •This Ain’t Nothin’ •God Must Really Love Me •What I Love About Sundays Lots of good stuff out there from him! Stay safe & love much💖
Another hit you in the feels song is This River by JJ Grey (Official Music Video). I've never seen a reaction by anyone to this one. Please do it if you have the time. JJ Grey is not considered country but this song could fit into the genre.
Going home is old southern for heaven. His family waiting for him.
That's exactly what going home means. 😉
