I am old now, and I have outlived my wives and my children. Most of my life is behind me, and most of that life is captured in photographs that no-one sees but me. This song hits me in a very special way.
This song is about my Dad's life to a T! He grew up in the Depression - Served in WWII, and married my Mom in June, 1946! They were married 55 years when we lost her.
This song brings perspective to so many people who make up things to feel like victims today. They have no clue what rough is or what surviving can mean.
I am not military. But I know rough and surviving. You never know the battles others are facing. You can spend a minute in my mind and you'll want out before you reach a minute.
I agree. Having traveled abroad to a few continents, we Americans are so fortunate. The young here have no clue how lucky they are. Our poor are fat, and I assure you that is not the case in many countries.
We can acknowledge that people have different struggles without belittling people going through a hard time. Just because you know others had it worse doesn't mean you have to think you have it easy. Struggles are different for different people and that's okay. This is just a pretty rough, harsh way to look at the people around you. It's normal to want a better hand than what life's dealt you sometimes.
Very well said. You never know the battles someone else is fighting. So treat others respectfully. It doesn't cost anything to be nice. And saying hello may be nothing to you but means the world to the other person. I'm sick of judgmental people. I stopped one day and sat with a homeless man. Turned out he was a Veteran and he said he watches people walk by him daily so I asked him what he needed he hadn't eating in 3 days so I took him to get food and then got him a motel room. I don't know what ever come of him. I still drive by where he was that day but haven't seen him. This is an example that I went past the hello with him. But he said it felt great getting to talk to someone.
When I watch these reaction videos, especially with a song like In Color, I wonder if the host is going to get it, or are they just interested in hearing themselves talk. Your reaction was perfect. You paused the song because of the RUclips rules, stumbled over a few words and then told yourself to shut up and finish watching the video. You got it! With a song like this it speaks for itself. And please please please never say a video is "deep" (you didn't thank God); it's the most overused and plain stupid thing you can say about an emotional reaction to a song. The most dramatic response is to simply be speechless. I have seen grown men cry listening to Jamey Johnson and his tribute to the greatest generation who lived through the great depression and saved the world.
Miss Gitana, By the way, your pauses are not bothersome, AND watching you react to this music video, you appear to be remembering special moments in your life which brought tears to my eyes.
This song always reminds me of my Grandfather. His life mirrored this song. He grew up in the Great Depression on a farm in Tennessee. He was a Marine in WWII where he earned the Silver Star. He met the love of his life, she was also a Marine, married her and they spent the rest of their lives together until his death.
I've heard that song before, I love songs like that because they tell stories with their music. Like Hank " Bocephus" Williams, Jr. Great reaction as usual Gitana. Oh yeah, almost forgot, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to Donavon and to all the Dads out there.
Mine too… only heard a few stories. It was like he was here and then he was there. It was always fresh… that look of seeing across the decades and the flat tone on his voice… almost like a confession. He made to Guam and his squad was so far ahead of main body, our own Navy started dropping shells on them. They limped off the hill with the more wounded and the Japs followed them down shooting the whole way. He said they dropped off the critical and those who could fight made sure not a man jack one of those soldiers made it back to Japan.
I love it when a person reacts after the whole video; maybe go back to the time mark, but listen to the entire thing then you will get the meaning of the whole song.
I knew you'd enjoy Jamey. I requested this over a year ago. I fell into the Jamey Johnson rabbit hole after this song was released. And I still haven't dug myself out. Thanks Gitana 🤘🤘
It is a great song. a lot of time we take for granted all the pictures we take with our phones. the old black and white photos are something special. not everyone had cameras back then, so the photos we do have, we need to cherish
Hey Shortcake, Glad to see you're back, The First Time I Heard the Song in Color was on the Radio and then I saw the video and was blown away. I love Jamey Johnsons' voice You can't say That ain't Country. This One that I have added to my car playlist reaction to
I already knew and listened to this song by Jamey Johnson. It carried me back in time to my childhood. And to beat it all, I have just been looking through a lot of old black and white pictures of my daddy when he was in WWII. He got drafted in December 1941 right after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. He told me that from the time he got on the bus to leave Alabama he didn't see a soul he knew until he got back home after the war ended. He was in the 8th Army Air Force stationed in England the whole time he was gone. The base he was at got bombed so many times by the Germans that after breathing in all the smoke from them it killed the top half of both his lungs. His next older brother got shot by a German soldier. The 8 mm rifle bullet hit him in the left shirt pocket right over his heart, but it got stopped by a small pocket bible. Tell me someone wasn't watching over him that day. There were 8 boys in his family and 5 of them were in WWII at the same time. Fortunately, all 5 made it back home alive. My biggest regret was not spending more time with him talking about it. I was still in my wilder years when he died on December 3rd, 1980. It truly hurts my heart when I start remembering him wanting to spend more time with me but I was into drinking and drugs (which he had no use for) so I chose to stay away on that path instead. Two years after he died I finally was able to quit my sorry way of life and straightened up. I know he would be so proud of the man I became and he didn't get to see. I lost him when I was 22, my brother when I was 34 and my mother when I was 49. I'm the last man standing from my birth family and it sure gets lonely at times wishing I could talk to them again but the only thing I can talk to now is a tombstone. But I have a drawer full of good memories in my head that I can pull out and look at any time I want to. I'm 44 years older now since he died and some of these great country songs still bring the tears from my eyes while listening to them and the memories start flooding my mind. Well, look at me just rambling on, and you thought you talked a lot. I think you're great doing these reaction videos. Keep up the great work my friend. Thanks!
If this gets blocked I am glad I at least got to see your reaction before it gets taken down. This is a beautiful song perfectly performed with an excellent video. Btw, so glad you are back. Have missed your laugh
Thanks for your reaction to this song. With Christmas soon approaching Please show this LIVE performance of: Sandy Parker singing “A Baby Changes Everything” video. P.S. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
this reminds me of my grandpa and grandma so much. I would sit on his lap as he told me stories. he lived a heck of a life. He ran liquor thru Kansas for Al Capone in his early life. He always had brand new cars....I have a bunch of pictures of him with his cars and he looked just like the gangsters of the day. He was a carpenter when he was older, helped build both Los Alamos in New Mexico and Rocky Flats in Colorado. ( both nuclear bomb facilities) He sure loved my grandma....miss them both dearly.
You make memories with people and it's just between you and them and of course neither of you can be here forever, so it's tough when there's no one to share the memories with.. and even video footage from 2010 right now looks old..it's crazy. In your heard it doesn't age at all though..it's always state of the art high definition.
I've never seen a reactor brake this song down the way I see it. "You should have seen it color", I believe it means you had to be there to understand. That's the message right?...
This was Jamey’s first big hit and I get nostalgic and smile every time I see/hear it. Glad to have you back. Hope your having fun here in Tennessee. We love you G take care of yourself.
I can't help but smile the whole time I watch your reactions! Keep doing what you're doing Gitana ❤and don't worry about the scatterbrained reviews, that's why we're here 😊
Gitana, I know you love Home Free, were you aware Austin Brown wrote a trilogy of songs for his girlfriend Amberly? We Home Fries love Amberly. The new songs are Give Me A Sign, Stargazer Lillys and Mr. I know you will like them 😊 It's so good to see you back and your usual self ☺️😊
One of my favorite songs and its so easy to get lost in this song no apologies needed and I think the word you're looking for is cinematography and yes the video was perfectly done
I have watched several of your videos and enjoyed them. I see sorrow in your eyes, and I know days like today can be discouraging. I am a person of faith and if I can I would love to pray for you. You have value, you have purpose, don't give up.
I too am a person of faith. Do the praying. She is a believer and I know she likes knowing that people are praying for her. I also pray for her and her family. I also pray for the Gitanos. It's always good to see a person of faith online where there are so few.
Gitana, that's what we here in the states call, "Southern English". Like a lot of languages there are many who butcher it every time they open their mouth but every one in a hundred it's spoken/sang with sincerity, honesty and heart and it's beautiful.
People who COMPLAIN about this or that with Reactions OBVIOUSLY do not understand how a Reaction Works they need to A: sit back Relax and Enjoy the Content B: Create their Own Reaction Channel and see Just How Easy it really is (Sarcasm!) So glad you got your smile back by the end of this. Don't let anyone tell you that you're "too" anything. You are who you are and that's why so many of us like you. Getting to start my day hearing your voice and seeing that smile puts a little more spring in my step the rest of the day. No matter what crap life tries to pour on me now I've got a little more armour to keep fighting through. Thank you for that, we probably don't say it enough.
The Dollar by Jamie Johnson!!!! He is amazing voice and has been told he is too country for country radio! He is an amazing story teller! Please please do The Dollar by Jamie Johnson!

No parent should outlive their kids...hate that for you, day by day til you see them again
Bless you, Paul.
You are still remembered.
+ Karma coming your way
Carry on old guy I’m right there with you

Love your reaction. My grandfather used to tell me stories about Guadalcanal. With old black and white pictures. Love this song.
I have loved this song since it came out. Thanks for doing it. Lots of love from Michigan ❤
Hey Lil bit. Great song huh easy to get trapped in the story. Tell Donavan happy father's day. 🐺🌹
It is easy for all of us to get lost in that one Gitana. Vivid, masterful storytelling even by country music standards.
I've heard that song before, I love songs like that because they tell stories with their music. Like Hank " Bocephus" Williams, Jr. Great reaction as usual Gitana. Oh yeah, almost forgot, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to Donavon and to all the Dads out there.
