    I can see your problem, and the reason for the code. It is the cracked Intercooler hose cold side, this will also cause the engine to idle up when in park.

    I had one that was super intermittent on a 2017 F350. Chased it for weeks. Like every 400kms it would throw it. Was NPF every time I would check it. A field service engineer came out. He had no idea. We threw the parts cannon at it. The crankcase oil separator ended up fixing it. Been 2 years now only been in for service since

    A month later and this is the 5th time I have had this code come up. I’m not taking it to the dealer anymore. The money saved with my warranty isn’t enough to offset the cost of not having my truck for weeks at a time.
    The last time I took my truck in they did a few regens reset the code and told me my DPF was clogged causing it. They had my truck for 6 days
    I wish I had a tech like you near me who would actually take their time to fix the issue and not put it on the back burner and do a regen.
    I am going to start by removing and inspecting my charge pipe as everyone online is saying that’s the most common issue.
    I bought forscan and have been tinkering with it so I am going to try and find some tutorials on it so I can learn how to test as many things as I can. If I can’t figure it out I guess I’ll have to take it back to the dealer but that’s last resort as they keep it for a week no matter what

Don’t let ppl tell you what’s wrong, take 5 min to check your $100,000 truck for obvious signs before letting ppl just say oh, it’s this….

    A Rod,.. an Idea for content. What replacement parts might travelers, especially backcountry travelers carry? I have the Thinkdiag OBD2 Reader you recommended, my old belt from the last change but still good, MAF Cleaner. What common parts might we carry to fix or limp rather than require towing? When traveling these days it is almost impossible to find a dealer that doesn’t schedule a week or three in advance. Many or most of us are also pulling trailers, so in the event of a breakdown both the truck and trailer need be towed which can be very costly. What basic Ford 6.7 PS parts list might you recommend for those who want to be self-sufficient. Which sensor failures put a truck down? I thought this might be interesting content for us travelers out here. We are many.

    I've been having P0170 for a couple years now but only during the winter months when temps are consistently below 40°F (central IL). I've had no drivability concerns (mpg has remained consistent) and I've thrown parts at it (new MAF, CAI, deleted EGR and DPF). The only thing I haven't done is the charge tube. Is it really as easy as a slight leak in the charge tube(which is still factory at 140k+ miles)?

    That thing sure screamed at 2500 rpms. That is nice that it has the trouble tree built into the scan tool for the codes it has. Hopefully it stays away now. Maybe it dusted the MAF sensor and baked on some contaminates? How did the old sensor look?

  • @blackopsrocks
    @blackopsrocks 2 года назад

    MAF rules: generally skewed maf reading with switching that is too high consistently across the range, dirty maf. MAF readings that aren't out of range until the truck begins to enter into boost, leaking charge pipe connnections, leaking exhaust pressure. I hate making videos but really need people to realize how often the cold side is torn and leaking as well as 2015+ trucks having issues with the very crappy outlet and inlet flange "oring" gaskets...and for the record, I have choice words for that oring not being available over the counter.

      Ive replaced a boat load of spark plug boots/wires and coils on them, but generally great engines with minimal repairs of the 100's of them in our fleet. I've seen a bunch that arc from spark plug boot to block or whatever is the path of least resistance. You'll hear some mild to moderate ticking noise, almost always see electrical arcing off of something from a plug boot. Fuel rail, thermostat housing, block, etc.

    ARod…I have a 2015 6.7 F450 in the shop with the P0170. It is a comeback after performing a PCM to latest calibration reprogram and MAF reset earlier in the year. Have you had any issues with that model year coming back after a reprogram and reset? One other question, what are your thoughts on a HPFP test that fails in step number 1 but passes all others? Build up time of 850 with max of 656. All other times ok. Is that the beginning of a pump wearing out? Can’t find much info on diagnosis.
