who is the man that was sitting by MacArthur that moved to different chair ? There are 4 men but it only lists 3?...whoever he was ...,he described my situation perfectly..In small town 21 church's NONE are preaching true Gospel None are even close to Orthodox true Doctrine and certainly NONE are Calvinist,, Im not financially able to drive out of town to a Church???? Im constantly listening to GTY Streaming day & night and getting sound teaching from Ligonier/Truth for Life///and my own Bible study at home...I guess I could make myself go to one of the Church's in my town..... but I honestly can't tolerate the lack of respect for the House of God...The members wear immodest clothing, sat through church slurping coffee or cokes/eating fruit during worship and sermons....kids running back & forth from kitchen and bringing food into sanctuary..... I don't feel as though God wants me to be involved in this behavior! Christ is not exalted ,the Gospel NOT clear...

Be careful. Many of your complaints sound petty. Just be sure they have sound doctrine, then allow the Holy Spirit to do the sanctification. If possible, be at peace with everyone.

They never mention we who are house-bound who cannot get to church because of chronic illness, are a part of the group who does not attend church. Yet I have continuously seen the church avoid visiting the sick. My pastor who has a fairly large church and is Reformed, has hired a nurse to visit the sick so the pastors don't have to, and she is "on the clock," as she has said, so until another pay day she is not available. I never did ask her to come to visit. I love all the men here, I love R.C dearly! But we are forgotten by the church. Some may take a meal to the temporarily sick or a new mother, but I have lived my entire life never seeing Believers visit the chronically ill. Why? :-(

Very good point and well taken and I hope that people will wake up and visit you but I think it’s also a reason why people stop attending church in general because they go to church and everybody just listens to the pastor and then goes home and there’s no real fellowship the key is don’t forsake The fellowship of the Saints well sometimes going to church is not synonymous with fellowship and sometimes we have to seek out small groups and we can’t find fellowship in these big organizations I think the Bible says where two or three are gathered there I am in the midst of them so these pastors think that you have to be a member of a big church and if you aren’t you’re not doing the right thing but I think that we can have fellowship in small groups as well because sometimes that’s all there is these big churches are many times just social clubs with not many people interested in true doctrine
The other thing is this the churches are set up for urban people and they aren’t really set up for farmers and people who have activities that would keep them occupied for example what if your fireman can’t leave the station Sunday morning to go to church or if your job requires you to be at a certain place on Sunday morning the churches would be better attended if they realized they have hey potentially diverse group
Secondly the churches are all built on the same model and the model basically is go to church and sit there and you are not allowed to ask the pastor questions when he gives the sermon there’s no real active learning it’s just sit down shut up listen and go homeAnd for some of us that’s not a very good way to learn it’s a waste of time we don’t learn much of anything that way if you look in the New Testament when Jesus taught people were asking him questions he didn’t just sit at a pulpit on Sunday morning he went out to the people and they walked around and people asked him questions that doesn’t happen with the pastors they all sit in there In ivory towers and then they pop out on Sunday morning and that’s about it or you can go see him in office hours for an appointment but that’s not real life

I grew up holiness & I don't appreciate when people group us with the radical, money hungry, charismatic, emotion driven...you get the point. My grandmother was a woman of God & she taught me holiness & she taught me love. I was with her on many occasions when we went to the saints house. I helped her take food, clean, pray for, & encourage the kingdom family who were unable to physically get to the church. We also took holy communion to them. I saw real love & I am so grateful for that. I pray God raise up that type of love again in the leadership of the church!

    • @daric_

It depends on what you are speaking. Paul said of the Judaizers (who said a non-Jew must be circumcised first before he can become a Christian) in his epistle to the Galatians that they were under the curse of God (anathema). He also said to put out the man who was sleeping with his father's wife in 1 Corinthians 6 from the congregation. So this idea that the church just needs to accept everyone is not the case.
Also, remember that church discipline was instituted by Jesus in Matthew 18 for the purpose of keeping His people accountable and preventing from serious sin from tearing and dividing the church apart. And, as I said, holding to heretical teachings without desiring to repent or accept true doctrine should also keep us out of the church, as Paul taught in Galatians, Romans, Colossians (where he criticized those who denied Jesus was God who truly took on a human nature, etc.), etc.

Matthew 22:11 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 22:13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen.

Because modern churchs belong to the pastors.
If Jesus was around today, He would not dare to risk his life entering a modern church.
He would have to bring lots of fish so he could get money from their mouths to pay the tithe.

But I will of course join you in the affirmation and proclamation that it is Christ's finished work on the cross that makes salvation possible in the base case and that no one is saved by their own "smart move" of accepting that effective work. We will probably disagree on the order in which that comes to pass, but we will both proclaim that it is Christ who saves men and He is worthy of all praise for that.

Although we might ultimately know who is predestined because of the evidence of the fruits of their repentance, nevertheless prior to their repentance we cannot say if they are indeed predestined.
But why can we not say that part of God’s decision making process to predestine someone, is based on the His foreknowledge that someone would be praying for their salvation.
Are we to say that our prayers are in vain because of predestination when we plead with God on our knees to spare our loved ones?
Maybe God saves us because He knows we will plead for others to be saved, and maybe these pleadings contribute in some way to the process of predestination which makes repentance possible.

Regarding the guy who was in fear that he fell from grace, there was a good opportunity there to edify him and tell him the truth, which is as Hebrews 10 tells us: a true believer is sanctified through Christ once for all time. You're not falling in and out of grace in Christ, your born of the Spirit, born of God, and God will never leave, or forsake those who are his children, those who trust in the Son of God for total cleansing and new life! Otherwise you have a gospel that says you are only forgiven and cleansed until your next sin! Which would mean old testament believers had more cleansing with bulls and goats, which lasted for 365 days! But we know Christ is much greater than bulls and goats and those whom he sanctifies are cleansed once for all time and he put his life giving Spirit in you forever, if you are truly his and believe!

What about discipleship? For seasoned women and men with new believers or new members who most are so lost and are so in need of someone to come along side of them to Disciple them for weeks or months to help them in there new walk with the Lord.
Also in a church the size of,say, MacArthur's. they could be so over looked and are scared to reach out in dire need of help.
That is one of the roles for Women and Men, is to make disciples of the new believer.
I was so fortunate to have the pastor's wife take me in there home once a week to teach me about the Trinity as well as homework, reading the Bible as well as learning memory verses and such then go over it the next week being able to recite the memory verse a leaving with new homework and a verse to commit to memory. We also took walks together and talk about God to include the bible. I couldn't get enough, all I wanted to do was read the bible. New regenerate believers must have this guidance!

In 1 Tim 1-18 Paul handed Hymenaeus and Alexander over to Satan that *they learn not to blaspheme.*
Satan is the only character name by name in the bible that christians may learn how not to blaspheme.
Paul handed them over because they rejected the faith. Rejecting the faith means they were following the god's of Rome. So Paul sent them back to the *Pharisees/Satan* who were following false gods.

Not forsaking the fellowship of the brethren is not about modern day christians having to attend church on a Sunday morning.
The only fellowship you have in church on a Sunday morning is with the back of the persons head who is sitting in front of you.
It was about Jewish believers who were following God in Christ not forsaking the Jewish old covenant people under the law; because the Day was approaching.
That Day was the judgement of the Lord on Jerusalem in AD70.
The purpose of the fellowship was to get them to follow Christ so they would not come under judgement.
To condemn a christian for not going to church on Sunday is fundamentalism.
Fundamentalism and love, is like oil and water they dont mix.

As a woman I can say that it’s because it’s not Biblical nor God’s design for women to be either governing the home or in the house of God/the church. There are plenty of other roles for women to do, and just as important, such as evangelizing. As a woman who by grace through faith has been born again and has the indwelling of the Spirit of God, I have absolutely no problem submitting to God, to His Word and to His design. I only need to look to Eve as a warning to not give attention to any other voice/way.
