Making a Knife in 2 hours, 7 minutes

- I had this off-cut of O-1 that wasn't long enough for most knives I make. I thought it would be fun to see how fast I could make a knife. Total time working on the knife was 2 hours, 7 minutes. You can add 4 hours and 50 minutes to that for the various time the knife spent in the oven, ferric chloride and stone tumbler.
I really enjoyed the free-hand profiling and not working off a drawing with this knife. I've never done that before and it was refreshing to change it up a bit.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.

I have been making knives for a couple of years but still find myself at my workbench or desk and do not have a knife handy. I decided that I needed to make several to lay around. This is the perfect idea, small, utility, easy to make, and made of scrap....perfect. Thanks again my friend for sharing your ideas.
That belt sander is awesome
That just shows how great of a knife DESIGNER you are. You started grinding and the shape just came out of the steel like it was meant to be lol. Beautiful little knife
Honestly one of my favorite knives you’ve made! The simplicity just makes it so amazing to look at! I wish I had one!!
A fantastic diversion from the crisis we are all in at the moment.
All the best from Australia.
Thank you! All the best to you as well 👍
So very true!
Splendid little knife.
Someone else has already said it, but the full two-hours and seven minutes unedited would be a great thing to watch …
That was a hint.
Nice. And the jazz at the end is killer too.
Super impressed with your progress over the years. Top notch. Practical. Pro-grade man. Really stellar. This build is one of my favs.
Very nice little knife 👍🏼
This was fun to watch. I've seen enough of your videos to make the steps you take. The free hand was fun to see. Stay healthy.
Thank you very much. I appreciate that. You stay healthy and happy as well 👍
Probably my favorite small knife on the Chanel yet! I can think of a million uses for this little guy as an edc piece. Well done!
Amazing work sir, thanks for the links to the rotary tool and the checkering file... two items I wanted after watching this video.
How is everyone talking about the knife and not the fact that this guy has incredible handwriting
amazing little knife. wish I had your knowledge
Thank you.
Nnnice little knife - Adorable as my granddaughter would say!! Handy EDC to slip in a leather pouch pocket sheath. Great build presentation - Thank You - Stay safe!!!
I’m so glad I have discovered your page!!! I’ve been making knives off and on for a few years now, nothing really major, but as of late I decided to start back to making them in more of a serious manner and watching your RUclips videos inspires me to really work harder at it and take my time. I’ve got about 15 blanks I’ve cut out and a couple I’ve finished up out of that batch and they have turned out really well and they’ve turned into something I can really be proud of. They’re nothing fancy, but they are tough knives and hold a really good edge even after I have beat the crap out of them to make sure they hold up and to make sure I have my heat treating steps down and consistent. Thanks for the inspiration and keep up the great work!!!!!
Where in Texas you at? I'd be happy to help you test out any of your blades! and do you sell your fine worksmanship?
Good ol' Strathmore Alberta, some of the best tools I've ever owned have been from small towns in Alberta.
Hey right on! 👍
beautiful work sir, and nice song jazz to finish
nice to see the new grinder in action!
Yeah I’m so stoked it have it ready for work 👍
@@Simplelittlelife Sweet little knife too BTW
Brother, I love your videos so much. Thank you!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that! Cheers👍
I just love everything about that little knife... and the video. Great stuff. Many thanks!
Nice. An useful little knife. Beautiful shape. You have very good tools, and you are very handy. Try something more difficult and unusual!
Nice handy little knife. You could get many uses out of this.
Such a beautiful little work of ergonomic art from a strip of steel... thank you for sharing your artistry!
Bonjour, vraiment super ce petit couteau !!!
Je l'adore !!!
Love your vids man. They are exactly what we need to see to get by in these isolation days. Keep safe and stay home.
Now all that little guy needs is a nice kydex pocket sheath with a thumb ramp, and a minimalistic lanyard.
I really like this. So cool anytime you make an off shoot (one of a kind) type. Really good work, and feel like I can learn by watching your various steps and techniques. Thanks for sharing!
Little Genius I Say
Bravo 🙌🏼
I consider this the inspiration to make something cool! Thanks man
Great build you are truly and artist
I will never get tired of watching a belt grinder chew away metal like that! I long for the days when my 1x30 gets a upgrade and I join the cool 2x72 club haha. Great video!
Wow! Love that little knife, great job!
Piece of cake......... for you. Nice blade Jeremy
Beautiful! Nice job! Nice workshop!
Very cool love the horizontal grinder
simple yet functional just love it. pulse it will be a great EDC
I want a grinder like that! Shoutout from New Zealand!
Legacy Tool works yeah, would love to find the video for the grinder build.
Aloha 🤙🏼
Miss your videos, great content and lessons. Praying you and family are well 🙏🙏
I really like the proportions, almost like a tactical camp butter knife 😁
I like your skinny knives! Challenge accepted, i'll try to make "this" one too. Thx for your ideas :). Greetings Dennis
Beautiful knife, I would love to own it if you ever decide to let it go.
Also, I agree with the above comments, a slim little kydex sheath would make this a perfect neck knife.
Haven't seen a video from this or your other channel in a while. Just wanted to check in on ya. Hope you and your family is staying safe and healthy
Thank you, I appreciate that. We’re doing great, and everyone is happy and healthy. I’ve been focusing on getting caught up on my knife orders and decided to leave the videos alone for a while. I’ve even disabled the custom knife ordering portion of my website just so I can get better caught up. Thanks again for checking in and I hope you and yours are doing well. Cheers👍
Nice little knife. I just received an order of O1. I'm looking forward to playing with it.
Gorgeous little knife.
That's one cool little knife, great job 👍
Beautiful little looking knife. I like it. Good Job 👍😉
You made something very useful with very good shape with such small piece of matirial which normally get thrown by people .
Love the finish on it
Pretty awesome, great shop setup.
That is a sweet EDC.
I love fixed blades. Carrying them is what’s most difficult. Making a fixed blades as easy to carry as a folder.
Looks like you got some shots with your new lens. Very cool little knife. 👍
Thank you! I’m pretty happy with it. Great for this type of in tight detail shots👍
It looks amazing.
Looks great! God bless!
Sweet little knife
Awesome video and such a sweat knife! Your a big knife making inspiration for me!
Beatiful Knife. Congratulations !
Another great video! Thanks.
This video is the reason I subscribed! You have a new fan for life
Thank you so much! 👍
Awesome video !
Thank you!
Nice little knife man thanks for the video and take care from Edmonton
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls
that knife is beautiful
Looks great Jeremy! A few of my now standard models started out as an attempt to make use of a scrap piece of steel.
Thank you! That’s cool. I see what you mean. There is a certain sense of freedom that comes when you don’t care about using (or “wasting” ) material to design something.. I love the look of your knives 👍
@@Simplelittlelife Definitely! And thank you! I'm working on trying to get some more RUclips videos going (one coming today). Your input would be greatly appreciated! :)
Jeremy, I love this little blade. If you could make a sheath so I could wear it as a neck knife I would love to purchase it from you.
Stay healthy and GOD bless
Some of the most rewarding projects are the off the cuff ideas. I like everything about that little knife, it would make a perfect fixed blade pocket knife in a nice leather sheath.
I am guessing about 5-5 1/2" ?
Very nice useful little knife....
Great knife!
excelente ese pequeño cuchillo que tipo de lima es esa
Love that finish..
Very nice work. I was especially interested in the quench. I wondered if O-1 needed an air quench, like O-2.
O1 and O2 have the same heat treat. I do not think that O2 needs an air quench.
Very cool knife!
Nice build
Very Nice!
Good and beautifull job
Awesome I wish I could have such skill!!!
What kind of belt sander is that, it’s so sweet! Very cool little build 🤙
You should do more "free form" builds. Just metal and imagination.
Nice one😀
Thank you!
Great little knife... will have to play with my scraps. What did you use for the gimping???
Found the file...guess I need to read the details...LOL
great job and video!
such a relaxing video to watch, I must be weird.
very cool make. nicely done!
I love when you do videos like this! amazing!
Nice job
Thank you
Can you please share a short video on how you made that block you used to get the angle grind on the blade? I have a hell of a time trying to do it by hand and you just used a block and C clamp angle locks? Thank you
A real CP knife, as in Cutie Pie. I think it would live well in an inside out leather sheet, as a pocket knife. The rough side out helps in retaining it in the pocket, and just a little extra leather to put your thumb on to help release it. Its beuty is in the size and funtionality. Thanks!
Amazing good job
Thank you.
Great looking knife but I honestly thought the video was going to be over arou d half way through... And thats where I stopped it.
I'm also unashamed to say I am jealous of your tools and therefore knowingly biased in scoffng at your touting of completing this in a mere 2 hours. 😆 I should probably reiterate looks great and I'm just poking a little fun.
So this is great and all but with all my quarantine time I would have loved a 2 hour and 7 min video.... 😉🤣
Hahaha, thanks buddy! 👍
@@Simplelittlelife yeah imagine if you just live stream it 😁
Artistry.
I would buy that and then maybe a leather or kydex sheath with it would be amazing
It would be great if you’d sell this type of knife. Beautiful litte EDC. No handle scales needed.
1:23 you should try to make your bevels with the grinder horizantally like that, the big wheels will give very interesting plungelines
Very cool! How do you make the little stencil? Thanks!!
I wish we could get more content. I miss these videos
Cool little custom. what knife sharpener are you using
Золотые руки!👍👏
Awesome! Stay safe!
Thank you! You too 👍
