God is Your Enemy
God is the barking dog, the screaming child,
the distractions from the outside world while you are
scrolling down the screen of your phone.
God is your enemy
and your friend.
It is in that which is hard to forgive,
difficult to digest and
stubborn to surrender.
That which you run from.
That which you feign comfort for subduing your days
and squandering your nights so as to not look into its eyes.
It is a sweet release but you beg for a bitter prison.
It is the river’s sway but you try to capture its tail.
It is the fruitful seed but you try to sell it.
It is the rare and fragile being but you try to eat it.
It is breath but you hold it.
It is your death but you fear it.
It is your life but you so often miss
this very moment.
