In all seriousness, this scene is truly a dark and bone chilling message about how terrible and cruel the US healthcare system can be.
For illegal immigrants or people who are on welfare, maybe. But then again it's their own faults at that point.
I figure he could've just gotten the hernia taken care of, gotten a few gigs, renewed his healthcare, and then had it paid for.

Yep! 100% true!! I read/saw a thing about that too and watched the bloopers. The funny thing is that after reading this comment, I didn’t go to 1:46 but still knew the exact scene you were talking about! Lol. As soon as he sat down and slid the cup over while making those noises, I immediately knew that was the part and was cracking up at my knowledge of what you just commented! He was actually getting annoyed (but in a funny way) because he had to do it sooooo many times. Every time they got like halfway through, he thought they finally got it and then…..nope!! Matthew (Perry) would snicker and they’d all crack up laughing! I bet it was a bit annoying after a while. It’s challenging to do a scene so goofy or that requires you to make funny sound effects, it’s challenging to do in general, and then added challenge of trying to get through it without someone laughing and ruining the take because it’s so goofy! It was hilarious to watch all of the bloopers and their reactions! I love this show so much! It couldn’t have had a better cast!❤️

Hernia is really really painful .. I'm surprised that Joey can still go to three audition without pass out.
If Joey wasn't so stupid and childish, i,d say that he would be perfect for the Marines. the Marines constantly have to tolerate pain like that for long periods of time and their motto is never leave a Marine behind. most people can't even walk with a hernia but Joey is pushing through enough to make it to multiple auditions and he was even willing to put up with it for multiple days if he had to. that's willpower.

I got a hernia while lifting heavy packages at FedEx. The pain was almost unbearable. I kept working my shift and then I went to the ER. The ER Dr had to give me morphine to push it back on. I have a high pain tolerance but that was ridiculously painful.

I had a hernia in my mid-20s. It didn't pop-out and get trapped much, and I had an operation soon after (I'm in the UK), but when it did pop out and get trapped it really was super painful and horrid. Can also be pretty dang dangerous if they're trapped for a long time and you can't push it back in at all.
Over 20 years later, and we’re still in the position where if you lose your health insurance, you can’t have a necessary operation and just have to make it work somehow. America - fuck yeah!

Chandler is basically a guy with a barely decent salaried IT job who lends people money knowing fully well he will never get it get back…and he has to save for marriage and kids too.

He doesnt make a “barely decent salary” in one of the episodes, its revealed that ross and chandler are the richest among their friends and chandler has a pretty high position in the company he works in.

It took me a good two minutes to remember that healthcare in the US isn't free. As someone whose country population will only have health insurance if they need a house loan it's crazy to me how without health insurance you can't get affordable care in the US. For us everything is free from many medicines to x-rays, MRIs, major operations, having children, stitches ect. Unless you choose to go the the private hospital there is you will get healthcare for free, I mean they even do free braces. Same thing goes for education, in my country there is free schooling from free 24 hour childcare daycare to university for free. We also get a stipend from ages 16 upwards as well as many free Erasmus opportunities, it's mind boggling how expensive things like this are in the Us I cants wrap my head around the concept

Sounds like you live in a communist country, or on Mars. IT AIN’T FREE. Somebody's paying somewhere. Can you buy your own brace or does the health system have to approve it? Yeah….I see in England where people wait weeks for a simple broken ankle. How about more serious surgery? When anyone but you is in charge of your health care, beware of the death panels.

I had a horrible hernia last year is it acting is on point because it was in my groin area and that was painful and it was the size of a softball had it for an entire year due to Covid restrictions finally got it fixed in 2021 but it still has memory pain connected to it because it feels like I still have it sometimes!

I had a kidney stone when I was nineteen. I spent a night in the hospital and had X-rays, blood and urine tests.
The cost of my stay and tests to the hospital?
About £1000.
What an American hospital would have charged me?
$20,000.
Plus an additional $10,000 if they had used an ultrasound machine to break up the stone. The ultrasound machine incidentally has a price tag of $50,000. So after five patients, it's paid for and is just generating revenue for the stockholders.
