- Natalie brings her lovely Irish lilt and authentic emotional expression to this gorgeously poetic song about remembering a moment in time, remembering a person in time -- frozen in time. The violins and cello additions on this 2017 remaster of her 1998 Ophelia album original are perfect. Simply wonderful!
One of the most beautiful, evocative, poetic songs by NM 💙
This song is on my wedding playlist. Still going since 2003 Beautiful!
She is my favorite song writer and singer.
Easily one of my favorite songs of all time. I have come back to your video many times. I can tell you feel what I feel.
Natalie Merchant is so under rated.
Dax. So glad you reacted to Natalie. I like 10,000 Manics but never got too hung up on them. When Natalie went solo her first album Tigerlily blew me away. She is amazing and when talking music with others I'm always surprised that so many people don't know who she is. As far as Frozen Charlotte, I can't decide which version I like the most. I'd never heard this newer version before. I really like them both but I may like the original a bit better. Almost a toss up. One thing for sure though. She can put me too sleep easier than any sleep medication could possibly do. Thanks again for a great reaction. And if you've never seen her NPR Tiny Desk Concert, check it out. It's great. Later. JC
Good on you Dax for giving Natalie a current reaction.
Natalie Merchant was solely responsible for my musical awakening in the 80's. During my high school years, I literally wore out Wishing Chair and In My Tribe so much that I had to repurchase the albums (cassette tapes) several times. Her thoughtfulness in her songs always left me thinking instead of just consuming. Even after all these years, as far as singer songwriters go, for me, as my muse, no one has replaced her yet. Grace is my best bet in a long time and that is an exciting thing.
A couple of my favorites videos are her Tiny Desk concert and this version of Verdi Cries (VH1 live) where she gives a little insight on how the song came about. My god, she takes a diary entry of mundane vacation and writes and composes a song Percy Bysshe Shelley would be proud of:

Hey Mike. I feel exactly the same way about Natalie. At least 15 or 20 of her songs are close to my heart, and I listen to Verdi Cries at least once a month. It’s on what I call my all-time songlist that I could listen to anytime. Indeed, she is worthy of being compared to Shelley or Dickinson or Wordsworth.
I watched the first 10 seconds of the link you provided and immediately fell in love with her look and her talking voice and the setting. I shut it down because I’m going to do a reaction on it. She is one of those few singers whose soul I connect to. Thanks very much!
BG, Before Grace, I had dozens, if not hundreds of performers that rose as stars in my sky . Natalie and the 10,000 maniacs were among those stars. AG, After Grace, it's like Grace is the sun. she shines so bright, that all the more distant stars fade from sight.
BTW, I love Natalie's voice and prefer her songs that feature her voice more prominently. In this, despite the poetry, the instrumentals are so strong that her voice almost gets lost.
Eric, I get what you’re saying, but the advent of Grace actually makes me appreciate Natalie even more, because she is one of the very few authentic singer songwriters in the constellation. Thanks
@@daxmusix I don't consider my extreme fixation on Grace to be a healthy thing. But I don't believe that I would turn it off, even if it were possible. Grace is one of the few pleasures that has yet to diminish over time.
Natalie Merchant is not popular among people with poor poetry appreciation.
Xavier, I would imagine she is not, but even though I love poetry, I could just sit and listen to her voice all day and night long.👈😉
