In 1995, I worked for a catering company that catered events for Bill Graham Productions events in California. We were catering for the Cranberries concert at the Berkeley Community Theater, and my boss told me "the lead singer is asking for a vegan meal. Can you make her some lentils?" Lentils are something I knew I made really well, thankfully. I made sure to season them with a touch of Indian spices, and added fresh tomato, onion, garlic, olive oil...anyway, about an hour later, a tiny lady appeared at the entrance of our dungeon-like, dark kitchen deep within the windowless depths of the Theater. She asked "who made the lentils?" I raised my hand up and she said "thanks very much. They are delicious!" I was so happy and on such a high from that. I think of it everytime I hear them😌
I met Dolores in 93 while working as a stagehand at a Hothouse Flowers concert in Hannover, Germany where the Cranberries were the support band. Initially, we didn't get along, but finally I asked for her autograph and she wrote "Nice to meet you. Love, Dolores xx". She gave me a big hug. A pleasant memory of a good human being.

At one point that weekend I looked out my window & there was Dolores preparing for an interview, so I said "I love you Dolores" & she replied " I love you too". As a 19 year old kid living on sight of the fest that weekend was filled with numerous unforgettable memories, but that moment was by far the highlight.
Well covered sir! I'm from Northern Ireland. Zombie was a massive hit when it was released because it spoke of the horror of the Troubles and united kids from both NI and the Republic of Ireland. The band crashed onto the scene with a bang. I was studying performing arts at the time, and they were everywhere. A massive influence on all of us, even the metal heads. They proved that Irish bands really could make something of themselves and that Irishness no longer represented a roadblock to success. Long live Dolores' memory. She was a true inspiration and one of the finest singers our island has produced.
Idk man. It seems petty still. They could've done it silently, without a photo op. Or even waited to release the single to mourn her passing. It feels leveraged.
So sad. She had a cottage near me in Ontario, Canada. My brother delivered furniture to her with me and she played the piano for us and she had one of her kids there. She was so polite and generous. I've been a fan from the start. She was so talented and had her own style which she never wavered from. She fought to make sure she would be heard. With all that she went through I believe she didn't kill herself on purpose. She just wanted to relax and zone out and clear her head. Bi-polar disorder is something I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. Having 2 children to care for in a very busy lifestyle breaks my heart for her. The stress she had to endure must have been debilitating. She is missed. RiP Dolores.
I managed to score a ticket to see The Cranberries at The Albert Hall in London.. just amazing. Somehow i found myself at the front and sang my soul out to Dolores. At the time I was working as a motocycle courier and a couple of days later I was waiting outside MTV studios. A car pulled up and Dolores got out.. i said "hello Dolores," she turned around to me and turned back. Then she turned back to me,pointed at me and said "you".. And her smile.. so beautiful.. miss you.
Her songs tap into emotions we dont even realize we have or can feel. Its MAGIC, Everytime I hear her I turn it up, stop what I am doing and fade into another place I don't wanna come back from, that is the POWER of The Cranberries
Dolores and her wonderful band The Cranberries saved me from suicide on several occasions. Their music speaks to my soul, RIP, Dolores your beautiful spirit is missed.
I absolutely loved The Cranberries, never heard anything of theirs I didn't like, as for Dolores, what a talent! A unique voice, great songwriting and so, SO beautiful!!
I cried when I heard of her death, and I'm a Grandma in my 60's. My kids had all the Cranberries CDs in the 90's, and somehow they all ended up with ME. Just like their Alanis Morissette and Joan Osborne.
I had an Irish girlfriend back when Cranberries got huge and she loved them (and everything Irish to be fair) So I kinda dismissed them but they soon grew on me as you just couldn't escape Zombie, Linger and Dreams in the 90s. Now I love them, Dolores voice is hauntingly beautiful and the tunes are incredible. Now, hearing their songs reminds me of my first girlfriend and easier, simpler, happier times in the 90s. RIP Dolores, you certainly made a big impact on music across the world and your legend lives on!
@Disturbed haha! I met her large family too, all of them loving my surname (Kennedy is a surname with Irish origins) and blue eyes (all of them insisting that I had Irish eyes) but I'm English through and through. Plus they'd be talking of marriage and I was only 17-early 20s, marriage being the last thing on my mind at that age.
@@Twobarpsi no, medium brown hair. My ex wife had ginger hair but our 3 children (2 girls and a boy) all took after me (blonde hair when young and going to medium brown when older) Hopefully they don't get my premature greying hair! My son (he lives with me) in particular is like a mini, cuter, better looking clone of me.
Linger is probably my favorite song of all time. What a wonderful lyricist and singer Dolores was. Still breaks my heart thinking of her being gone. Gone, but never forgotten. R.I.P. Dolores, we love you!
I actually met the band while I was in high school, they were all absolutely cool. Dolores was especially sweet. She had a sadness in her eyes that I saw myself up close. God bless her and she is free from that sadness now. Sadly the world is missing a special angel but God has his special angel in heaven
I was living near Belfast when Zombie was released. The troubles were tiring people out and nobody wanted it to continue except the gangsters making money from it and those indoctrinated into the paramilitaries, who had lost loved ones and were still hell bent on revenge. What made this stand out was that it was like a breath of fresh air, giving the regular folks in Northern Ireland a song they could relate to. A song that predicated the signing of the peace treaty. The people didn't want it anymore and this song reflected it perfectly. Everyone I knew would talk about the song, sing the song and when it came on MTV it was always a blessing.
I heard "linger" when I was 15 years old. I still remember the first time I heard it. It was like something from another world and it completely blew me away. Her Irish gate and folkish angelic voice put me in a trance and till this day I'd say it's the song that turned me onto music. Thank you Dolores!
I remember when I first heard The Cranberries singing "Linger", I thought the band had two female lead vocalists and that they harmonized so beautifully together. I had no clue it was just Dolores's voice on top of her own voice. What an incredible talent and beautiful soul. Rest in paradise, Dolores.
One of my metalhead buddies went to see the Cranberries, he gushed about how good they were and how beautiful Delores was. For months. He was not wrong, though.
@@jamesmacoisdealbhaigh9904 Word my man. Exactly 30 almost 31 years since I bought my own first albums. Thankfully, my dad had extremely good musical tastes he was into Metallica, Celtic frost, Maiden etc etc while I wasn't even in school yet. Been surrounded by great music my whole life. Gratefully.
Yep, we were truly blessed to go to high school in the 90's, especially being fed a constant stream of brilliant music, and nobody had cell phones or social media!!!
You gotta respect the bandmates for letting the band name rest with her and not attempt to milk it after her passing without her like a lot of bands have tried.
Dreams is my favorite Cranberries song. I got to see them twice. Once in New Jersey and a second time in Toronto. I was so sad when I heard about Dolores' passing. It hit me hard. She had such a beautiful voice.
Saw this group live once at Great Woods in Mansfield, MA. Very accomplished, tight performance fronted by Delores’s powerful yet angelic vocals. Totally blew me away!
I remember being a teenager listening the whole albums completely: no need to argue and everybody else is doing it… I also discovered the Smiths because of The Cranberries mentioning them as one of their influences. RIP Dolores
I remember listening to linger for the first time. And I remember how beautiful the band sounded. To this day I could recognize the song even if other songs are playing. One of the most memorable bands that I know.
The Cranberries were one of my first concerts ever. I still remember she played that show in Austin with her back mostly to the crowd. True fans connected with the music though…not whether or not an artist faced the audience live. I had the chance to see her again on her solo tour. It really seemed so magical to me that she came full circle from that first time I saw her. She is truly one of those voices I can hear a second of and instantly recognize. What a talent. RIP Dolores.💚🎚🙏
apparently Dolores was so shy, so stage frightened, so unaccustomed to the huge crowds, couldnt do her art the usual way looking out from the stage. RIP Dolores, we ALL miss you terribly.
Thank you for this, all of us who were lucky enough to grow up in that era, know that bands like The Cranberries and singers like Dolores are as rare as a four-leaf clover, specially nowadays.
Being in High School when they hit big was amazing. We’d just had Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Sublime, and now here came the Cranberries. Such a different sound and message. Zombie was heartbreakingly beautiful and sad at the same time. When I heard that she was going to do the new version I was so excited! Bad Wolves seemed like a good fit. Then the news that she passed came out. I cried like a baby that day. Another piece of my teenage years gone too soon. Thank you @Rock N’ Roll True Stories for this great video. Great job covering Delores. RIP sweet angel, I hope you have peace, rest and feel safe now.
@@GermanShepherdDaphne so much fun. The last of the no evidence, unless someone took pictures. Finding $5 meant enough for Taco Bell and gas money to the beach.
I'm nearly sixty years old and faintly remember them but yesterday at the bar somebody played one of their songs and I said who the hell is that voice? This morning I found this in my RUclips feed. I have no idea why. I'm just enamored with this young lady. What a tragic loss. She had an incredible voice. RIP you are an angel...
I'm still absolutely gutted at the loss of Dolores, I can't believe she's gone. What an absolute loss to her family, friends the music industry and her fans. I've loved the Cranberries since day 1, but I never got to see them live. It was always a case of, 'some day'. Now it's too late.. My faves have to be 'Zombie' and 'Promises'. RIP Dolores, you are greatly missed.x
@@johndough1703 No expert on this by any means, but in part, it's the sort of "yodel" she does in various places, but most notably after the word "zombie".
I have listened to and loved The Cranberries' music for years. A few years ago, before Dolores' death, I saw an ad for an upcoming Cranberries tour. I'd never seen them live before, so I was excited that I might finally be able to do so. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend. Not long after, I heard about Dolores' death. Even though I never saw them live, their music was very personal to me. And I was taken aback by her death. Thankfully, their music will always live on for me. I will be forever grateful that they shared their music with the world. We are the better for it.
I absolutely love this band, I remember being a kid and watching the Linger, Dreams and Ode To My Family music videos and being absolutely in love with her and her voice. God, that band had such an incredible sound that I still love to this day. Zombie, I Will Always, You and Me, When You're Gone, How, Why... Man, what an amazing catalog of music. I miss the music industry being this unique and full of variety.
There's even more variety now, you just have to know where to find it. Obviously, most of the good artists are barely scraping by, or even have dayjobs - but the music is there, and totally worth supporting. It's like every variety of music that I loved from the late 80s and early 90s has an evolved version of it someplace, and even some people that nearly resemble bands i loved, just doing new things with the sound. Granted, the sound of nostalgia is the greatest sound of all, because we have memories and rose tinted glasses of youth to link up with all those songs. Still, if you dig around enough, there are some amazing bands out there. Lately I'm hooked on Speedy Ortiz - Major Arcana album, they remind me of everything I loved from 90s bands like Sleater-Kinney or Heavens To Betsy and all that good stuff
I'm from Russia. The Cranberries is my first favorite band and the main reason my English improved during high school. I so wanted to know what the songs were about. Luckely I was able to see them live. Still can't believe Dolores is dead. But their last record is such a miracle. The last chapter was not the death, but the music.
Their sound was otherworldly. Like nothing I'd ever heard before, and it contrasted with the grunge/Seattle sound of the time, so it was always in my rotation .
This one...hits so hard. I remember sobbing the day I heard Dolores O' Riordan died. Their music is that of my youth. thank you for making this exquisite video.
She was simply so unique. Her natural voice always gives me infectious goosebumps. And just the name for her band. Cranberries A natural juice that i use to detoxify. Just like her songs does to my soul. Rest easy lady🤗
Loved the Cranberries as musicians, songwriters and performers. R.I.P Delores I was on board from the early years and still listen to their albums today! This Rock and Roll true story has invigorated me to put on the back catalogue again.. On vinyl of course ;) Sadly not all of their records are available on said format :(
I had to stop when the video was talking about "Zombie". I'm mixed English and Irish (some Jewish too) and I just wanted the fighting to end. I think Dolores did more than most to help that progress toward peace.
I used to hear Linger on K-ROQ here in Los Angeles a lot during the early 90s at work. Dolores's death is incredibly sad that song always did something to me.
Cranberries bring so much 90s nostalgia back to me. Their music helped me in happy and sad times get through pain I didn't understand until I was an adult. Thank God for MUCHMUSIC in the 90s. It will NEVER be the same again. I remember when Salvation first came out and I voted for them and the call/vote cost 50 cents and I begged my mom to let me vote; I don't remember who they were up against but Cranberries won by just a few votes and damn right I felt good about myself. Never asked to vote for any other song or band and I'm a music head but that song just spoke to me on so many levels. Rest In Power Dolores you made my childhood easier to get through.
Irish women are among the most beautiful on the planet, inside and out! Delores is evidence of this. The world was a far better place with her in it, such a tragic loss! RIP Delores O'Riordan and thank you ❤️
When Linger was released, I was a figure skater & was newly married. I met another skater and simply put, we had developed a bond. She would skate to Linger often, while preparing for the ISU competition. I really cared for her & that song will always make me think of her.
They were fantastic live. She was so tiny but her voice was pure & fierce. She told the audience the band were all sick with the flu. Yet they played one helluva fantastic show. RIP Dolores.
Great band they belong in the history books alongside the other greats of the early/mid 90s. I remember when she passed and the cover of Zombie coming out shortly after. I assumed it was a tribute after the fact I didn't realize she was involved in it before she died. Thanks for educating me on that
Hotel rooms are the loneliest places in the world. You are surrounded by smiling staff that don't care about you. You are alone. Drinking is an attractive option. It passes time quickly and hotels provide plenty of it. I can totally understand and sympathise with what happened to Dolores. It is a terrible shame she did not stay with friends. Getting into a bath seems like a nice idea when you're drunk, but obviously not a good idea. It's a tragic, avoidable death. Rest in Peace Dolores. I still listen to your voice every day.
"smiling staff that don't care about you". Staff is working, they are not running a daycare center. When I was on the road as a musician, I never once expected them to coddle me or treat me like anyone special, and it was not their job to do so. With her money and available resources, she should have tried a bit harder to seek help. I miss her, but her death was caused by herself and was avoidable.
Ngl it hasn’t been more than 2 years that I’ve really gotten into the cranberries and I’m already feeling sad about dolores’ death knowing that she wrote so many great songs including the ones that I incredibly admire RIP angel 1971-2018
I remember watching the video for "Zombie" on MTV when I was a little kid, having known nothing about war prior. It made a huge impression. And listening to "Dreams" in the back seat of my parents car.
I loved the cranberries and loved Dolores's voice. I was 22 stationed at Ft.bliss in texas when the cranberries came out...loved dreams and linger, when I hear those songs today they always bring back memories of care free simpler , happier times. Rest in heaven Dolores
I was 23 lol! . Brings back the memories doesn’t it. So very sad. Fame and money does not bring peace or happiness. Mental illness and substance abuse go hand in hand, the tragic end to many beloved musicians of our time. RIP x
Another tragic loss and unnecessary death. She was so talented and her talent for the most part was never realized. I loved her band, The Cranberries. I've listened to all of the albums, still own them. What a gem she was. I am a fan of Fergal Lawler, he's brilliant. The Hogan brothers are pretty awesome. I wish they could have gone down a different path, a more stable one but wishing that means the brilliant recordings we have may not have ever happened. Sometimes, chaos brings about great things. I hope the God that Dolores believed in has taken her into His Kingdom. RIP Ms. O'Riordon.
When I first saw her in the "Zombie" video in the 90s, she became one of my earliest crushes- maybe even my first. Such a lovely voice that masked a troubled, deep, misunderstood soul. Love always, Dolores.
Back in the early 90s, right after the song Linger started getting play on college radio stations, Matt Johnson of The The got The Cranberries to open for him on his Dusk North American tour. After the concert I waited around to meet Matt and he was just such a genuinely good guy, and Delores happened to be walking to the tour bus too so he introduced me to her and she gave me a huge hug (especially for such a small woman) and was so humble and nice, and not in a fake way. I usually don't get upset when celebrities pass away, but her death was one of the only ones I've ever shed tears over. RIP Delores.
@@bradss1000 If I could go back in time I would like to ask Matt why he never considered letting Delores sing the female part on Kingdom Of Rain during that tour. Her vocals were really great and her range wast strong, there was no reason she couldn't have covered Sinead O'Connor's part in that song and did it justice. It just seemed like such a good fit and was a missed opportunity to hear a really great song live.
My son cried. He grew up listening to Delores O’Riordan and the cranberries in the back seat of my 98 Chevy Blazer. I loved her it broke my heart 💜 we lost such a beautiful soul to an accidental overdose. Delores was a major talent.
About once a month I find myself slapping on a set of headphones and listening to the entire No Need to Argue album with a glass of whiskey. It’s epic, felt in my core, and speaks to me.
That day she passed away i was so shocked because she was part of my childhood. Zombie would play on the radio every few days and i would listen to it. I still can't believe even after a few years she is gone, gone forever.
the 90s was the last era where artists and bands sent physical demo tapes to record labels. Dolores, kate bush and sinead oconnor were 3 of the most strongest female artists of that era.
I'm a child of the 90's and from the moment I heard the Cranberries I fell in love with the band! There sound is very unique and Dolores had such an amazing voice! It's always sad to hear about the death of anyone so young however I had to take a moment of silence with the passing of Dolores O'Riordan and Robin Williams! Free to Decide and Zombie always made me think about bigger issues growing up and I feel like they will always be relevant. Recently, the song Zombie came into my thoughts when I was watching a news update about the war in Ukraine, which is also very sad! It's truly an amazing song when almost anyone can relate and it brings up such strong emotions! I hope her family is doing well and has some peace since her passing, she will be missed by so many!
The Cranberries were just so unique and nothing out there at that time was comparable to them. I remember seeing them on TOTP when Linger came out, her voice was unique, her look with all the ear piercings at that time was unique and most of all the song style was unique and they could perform multi songs styles and always sounded different. A truly fantastic talent👍
As a long time musician I always respected and enjoyed the fresh sound the band created. Dolores was a very pretty and talented artist , one that will be missed.
I remember being 5 or 6 and my sister snuck No Need To Argue on cassette into the house (we weren't allowed to listen to anything besides classical or hymns) I was mesmerized, other than Nirvana I can't think of a sound that transports me so powerfully and immediately to one of the few happy points in my childhood.
I’m 50 and right there with you. I was front row center at Woodstock 94 at 23 years old absolutely enamored with that amazingly beautiful voice and equally beautiful young woman. I’ll admit to bursting into tears the day I heard she died, as if I’d lost one of the greatest loves of my lifetime. In many ways, I did.
@@frightlights6399 I'm 51 Bazooka Juice I recently bought all their CD's again. One of a kind band. Cranberries had a one of a kind sonic structure. They are their own genre. RIP Dolores O'riordan 🎹🙏
My husband, daughter, and I were riding to North Carolina mountains. I was in the back seat about to doze off when the most beautiful song started to play. I was mesmerized by the music and lyrics to the point of feeling deliciously mellow. That song was "Linger". I'll never forget that time in my life whenever I hear her voice. Rest in peace precious lady. You are loved.
This death reminds me of Tom Petty's. Same accidental overdose. Same tough life. I think having to sing Zombie so frequently didn't help. She must have sung it at every performance she had after its writing. That song was so depressing. If it didn't depress you. something was wrong with you.
She has a great life story but it’s so heartbreaking to hear it. 😢

One piece of advice I would like to give to people is: every time you have the chance to see a presentation of an artist you like, go and do it. I remember when I was living in Mexico, right before I moved to Europe. The cranberries gave a concert in Acapulco(if I’m not mistaken) and I didn’t go because I wanted to save every single penny to come to Europe. I thought “I’m sure Cranberries will give a concert in Amsterdam at any point, so I can see them there”, and right after Dolores died. I regret so much I haven’t gone see them live cause that was my last chance.
She was blessed with a lovely voice. I remember when she sang with pavarotti was very lovely. But all songs are fantastic, she have a voice to listening all day and don't feel tired to heard.
I really got hooked up on Cranberries when they released "wake up..." Then it almost become an addiction. After hearing "Analyse" on radio, I recognized the voice, and I started getting the earlier albums. Dolores' unique style and the band's harmony was something special. I saw their concert in Montreal, Canada in 2002, and just facing the stage, I witnessed first hand how good they were. Still in my top 5 favorite bands to this day. RIP Dolores...
Loved the Cranberries - they were one of my absolute favourite bands. Saw them in concert, way back. Such a variety of sound and emotion - from the whimsical dreamy Linger and Dreams and then having a full crowd-surfing mosh pit when they did Zombie.
Red hair and blue eyes?
@@Twobarpsi no, medium brown hair. My ex wife had ginger hair but our 3 children (2 girls and a boy) all took after me (blonde hair when young and going to medium brown when older) Hopefully they don't get my premature greying hair!
May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Her vocals were amazing.
The song was released after the peace treaty was signed...
@@Jreb1865No it wasn’t….the song was released in ‘94. The peace accords happened years later, around 1998. Lazy dumb comment.

The Cranberries' songs were my college anthems. I was so sad to hear of Dolores' passing; I still feel the loss. I hope her kids are okay.
I heard "linger" when I was 15 years old. I still remember the first time I heard it. It was like something from another world and it completely blew me away. Her Irish gate and folkish angelic voice put me in a trance and till this day I'd say it's the song that turned me onto music. Thank you Dolores!
Took the words right out of the Aussie blokes mouth , what a tune
Her voice was so incredible.
Voice of an Angel.............
My drummer buddy was the drum tech for them up until her death, they were all blown away about it and a very sad state of affairs. R I P sweetheart.

Yep, we were truly blessed to go to high school in the 90's, especially being fed a constant stream of brilliant music, and nobody had cell phones or social media!!!
Yeah, her death along with Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Chester Bennington, etc are all highly suspicious in my opinion.
@@joshuayettou3552 yes, soaked in bleach was very interesting
When did she die?
disheveled? she die?
She was a magical artist
apparently Dolores was so shy, so stage frightened, so unaccustomed to the huge crowds, couldnt do her art the usual way looking out from the stage.
RIP Dolores, we ALL miss you terribly.
Then came Sia . . .
Love you Dolores 🤍😭
Same. Montreal may 10th 2002. First concert and I'll never forget it. RIP Dolores.
Darcy used to face away from the crowd a lot when she was with The Smashing Pumpkins. I think it's more nerves than being disrespectful.
Thank you for this, all of us who were lucky enough to grow up in that era, know that bands like The Cranberries and singers like Dolores are as rare as a four-leaf clover, specially nowadays.
Ireland has produced some really genuine meaningful music. Never met an Irish person I didn't like. Glad to hear they finally have peace.

I've loved the Cranberries since day 1, but I never got to see them live. It was always a case of, 'some day'. Now it's too late.. My faves have to be 'Zombie' and 'Promises'. I was so lucky to see them live in the 90s when they were at their peak. She sang so wonderfully live and the whole band is so talented.

No one has keened like her before or since. Greatest female voice of all time. Totally irreplaceable
What does “keened” mean?

Yup almost all music post 2000 doesn't have a unique sound to it. Except System of a Down! They were unique!

Truly one of a kind. She’ll be loved and appreciated and missed forever. RIP Dolores.
Their sound was otherworldly. Like nothing I'd ever heard before, and it contrasted with the grunge/Seattle sound of the time, so it was always in my rotation .
To me "Ode to my family" is the most beautiful song they ever released. I still have the cd single at home.
That song makes me cry. It is so beautiful and hurtful.
Good call!

What a ridiculous comment. There are beautiful people all over the world.
Poor tortured soul, she was a beautiful old soul. Dolores now has her wings as an Angel. R.I.P.

The Cranberries were just so unique and nothing out there at that time was comparable to them.
