Dude, this is just what the Dr ordered.. I am starting to learn rendering in order to show my custom acoustic guitar designs to my clients before the guitars are actually made, but based on real woods, bindings, purflings, tuners on hand.. This takes the guesswork out of choosing the appointments, defining colour schemes and communicating the design aesthetics! Thank you!!
I like to use transparent appearances on faces of bodys to give me a view inside the part. That way I can keep the body solid while certain faces become windows into the part. Is a very helpful visual aid when modeling parts with internal complexities.
at time 7:39 you're messing around with appearance scale, while I believe you're really looking for what can be seen directly below scale in the Texture Editor menu: REPEAT and it is set to "Tile".
Hey Lars. Thank you for the great video. I'm actually in need of a Corten or corroded steel texture to do a render. I'm desperate to find any. Do you have any idea how to make it? Thank you. Jakub
Hello, having a little trouble here. As a graduate student I designed a machine, in the beginning I assigned some parts a physical appearance, now in the assembly it is hard to see whats what. would be very helpfull to be able to override existing apearances in assembly's and to be able to turn them off or switch between selections.
I am trying to create a realistic fineer wood material. To be specific, very thing fineer is slightly translucent allowing small amounts of light to pass though it thereby lighting of the wood grain texture. So far I have been unsuccessful because the wood materials seem to lack the translucent slider. Any thoughts on how to make that material?
Hi Vincent, Thank you for taking the time to comment. It is not uncommon for render experts to go and make their own materials in photoshop and bring it into the rendering software, so you have full control of your appearance. I hope this is useful, Best, Lars
Hi Lars, I am struggling with Material Editor in Fusion. Essentially, I cannot figure out how to change the opacity in material editor (I know how to change component opacity but that's not what I'm after). I want to modify an existing transparent material - increaase its opacity, but I cannot find that option or figure out how to make it less transparent. I also tried to change a non-transparent material into a transparent one, but again I can only modify translucency, cannot make it transparent. I'm guessing those are 2 different types of appearances and it's impossible to change one into another. Any suggestions on how to create each of the appearance types and how to modify opacity of existing ones?
Seems the current version has different menu options. Ive done custom textures in the past but now cannot find how to use an image. I see colours and other settings to use an image (bump mapping etc), but nothing for the actual texture image. Any ideas please?
Hi Lars! I have seen others ask this and I didn't 'get it.' Now I do. At 1:04, on and off till 1:18, the speaker box is rotating, but your mouse is not changed to a 'rotate' (don't know the right name for it) icon. Even if it did change, the mouse is not moving in alignment/orientation/parallel with how the box is moving. At 2:07 the box is rotating *and* the mouse is scrolling in the dialog box at the same time. Are these object movements by keystrokes?
You could probably take a little bit more zoomed out image of the same fabric, then do a Content-Aware Fill in photoshop on a large canvas. That would give you a lot of unique texture.

Lars, you are the best! I was looking for a way to expand the color palette of certain textures and this totally solved the issue for me, Thank you.

Oh, how I miss you doing these vids. LOL Came here to figure this out and I didn't even have to watch the whole video... but I did anyway.

I play PRS!
That looks awful and more importantly, it was not helpful. I would like to learn how to manipulate the textures.
