I do not want to brag or make myself stand out, but I started Carnivore in May 2023 at around 140lbs. A year afterwards, I am still on the diet, working out like crazy, intense lifting and sprints. I am over 160lbs now so about +20lbs of mass gain. The scale shows about 2% body fat increase since that time, which is fine with me, as I am still lean. But if you do the math, it's about 3lbs of fat mass and roughly 17lbs of lean tissue. Yes, if you put in the hard work, you can grow like a weed! 💪 Afterall, "you are what you eat" and I eat a lot of meat!
Future you is going to be so thankful you are taking care of your body, health, and fitness. Amazing progress and hope you keep up (and enjoy) the journey.
I want to start sprinting too! I thought I would never say it but when I went low carb and then really strict I wanted randomly to run. It is great feeling.
Same age as you, weightlifting since 1986, I weigh 200 LBS, carnivore since 2 years, same trend in muscle gain (never any drugs). Wife carnivore for 18 months. We were inspired by your vids to take up rowing. Just took a course in 4 man scull and had the regatta this weekend. No boat rowed faster than ours in any of the races (4's and 8's). We were the oldest competitors there. Of 30 people, we were clearly the strongest pair. Everyone got a burger and fries at the end. I took one bite and threw it out...tasted like garbage. Same with the wife. Case closed for us. Went home and had a 28 ounce ribeye dinner, 9 ounce tenderloin for the Mrs.
Thank you for this Dr. Baker! I've gotten back to bodybuilding after a decade hiatus, and they keep telling me "yOu nEeD cArBs to get jacked BRO"! Been carnivore for 13 months now, and I'm not turning back.

My N=1 experiment with protein powder concluded it is not bioavailable to me! I donated plasma 8 times. They test protein before every donation. When I was low. I added protein powder to my diet and I was still low. Next, i tried adding fish a few times. I was still low. Next, i added plain ol ground beef! Guess what!?!? The ground beef brought up my levels significantly where the other protein sources did not. It's a NO for whey protein powder for me! One thing is it takes determination and consistency. I stand at the kitchen sink and using only my arms lift my body with my arms to strengthen my biceps. At 66 it's what I do to strengthen my arms so if I fall I can get up on my own without help from the Indianapolis firemen...lol
Step 2 : Practice getting up off the floor without using your arms from all different positions - in case you fall and break both your arms. Step 3 : stand on 1 leg for a minute each leg while you clean your teeth to improve your balance anf prevent the fall.
I'm about to start a carnivore bulk, over 6,000 cals per day. My hypothesis is that I will stay leaner compared to past bulks on mixed macro / high carb diets.
Personally bulking on carnivore I simply added more dairy then I normally would. You know grate some cheese on your eggs, ground beef, and well I mean that's all I eat lol with some bacon
When I was in my early 30s I got stuck into the gym for 2 years pretty hard and went from 130kg down to 105kg, packed on some good muscle mass on my 6 foot two frame, then I got married had two kids and started my own plumbing business, 12yrs later I was back to 130kg and lost my muscle tone, started the carnivore diet 12 months ago and I got down to 95kg and feeling amazing, started working out two months ago and my muscles have exploded, Without changing my diet in the last two months I have packed on 3 kg of muscle at age 42, muscle memory helps but I put it down to the ribeye and eggs I eat every day, I will never go back to my old diet
Making a new workout: 1) Dig garden for light weight/cardio 2) Use the giant rocks you dig up as weights (try throwing them around- it's fun, but watch your toes!) 3) Firewood. Log flipping, rolling, splitting, lifting and stacking. 4) Use the rocks and firewood from previous steps to cook your steak dinner.
Great input! For MPS with my older clients, I try to get in one real (real meaning that it is actually high intensity) HIT workout a week and 2 or 3 resistance trainings a week. I also request the walk as much as possible throughout the week. As for protein intake, I love your advice on more meals since protein consumption will increases MPS. As always great job and thank you for your efforts.
The training effect is two steps: tear down and rebuild stronger. LCHF is well known for low inflammation. This is great news for the rebuilding phase. I'm in my fifties and lifted my whole life. But I was at a long time plateau while I was still addicted to carbs. Dropping the carbs was the plateau break out for me! Food is more powerful than medicine (and drugs)! My body fat is down and my muscle density is up. Two years in and I keep getting and feeling better. This is substantiated by improving blood work markers too. There's a lot of confusion and conflicting advice out there. Stick to your three D's: Data Driven Decisions. You can manage what you do measure.
Dr. Shawn did you mean to say “ten to twelve reps per body part per week instead of ten to twelve sets? Thanks we love your channel. I’ve been following you for long time and your coaching helped me survive toxic restaurant food poisoning where they sprayed pesticide and it got into their food stocks. God saved me by guiding me to your channel in the first place and another good medical friend who said eat only meat because it is easiest to digest. My gut was shut down for 4 months until carnivore diet stopped my 40 lb. weight loss of my body drawing off of my own muscle and fat supply, on an already lean body type frame. Keep up the good work my friend.
I am 42. 5’11, 170lb and in the best shape of my life. I use the X3 bar resistant bands to train 6x a week. I’m eating more than I ever have and leverage grassfed whey in the AM pre/post workout and before bed. I feast in the evening on 10+ eggs, 2 lbs ground beef and 10oz ribeyes most days. Some days I’m near 4K calories (400g protein, 250+ grams of fat) 100g of protein is from the whey! So yes, I can testify to this! Carnivore + whey is awesome! I’m below 10% Body fat and stronger than I’ve ever been, my energy is amazing and I feel awesome.
The Chinese noted with surprise and disgust the ability of the Mongol warriors to survive on little food and water for long periods; according to one, the entire army could camp without a single puff of smoke since they needed no fires to cook. Compared to the Jurched soldiers, the Mongols were much healthier and stronger. The Mongols consumed a steady diet of meat, milk, yogurt, and other dairy products, and they fought men who lived on gruel made from various grains. The grain diet of the peasant warriors stunted their bones, rotted their teeth, and left them weak and prone to disease. In contrast, the poorest Mongol soldier ate mostly protein, thereby giving him strong teeth and bones.
You'd think, but my progress in the gym is rather lackluster on carnivore. I work out too little and I definitely eat too little. Bit of a vicious cycle ,- eat too little so no energy for workouts so not very hungry so I eat too little. I've noticed that some people just don't experience the carnivore miracle. Over the past 15 months, I went from "mostly fine" to "mostly fine+". Didn't really get most of the benefits I was hoping for, but the few I did get make it worth carrying on.

If you go from a clean diet with adequate protein to carnivore, you won't see a big difference. If you go from a horrific diet of seed oils and mostly carbs in the form of processed sugars, you will see a dramatic difference.
I found cycling a little carbs helped with energy during workouts and building faster, but unfortunately that also reignites my carb addiction and stalls out my fat loss. Building muscle in ketosis at least for me is a slower process.
I do find that a lot of people who lift, have a hard time getting to a sufficient level of intensity. Many underestimate that they need to learn that or at least be coached in it. It's a big factor for hypertrophy.
I am 6 weeks into carnivore, I eat about 1 1/2 porterhouse steaks a day cut about 1 inch thick. I have lost 7 kg intially while losing fat and not working out although my day job is pretty intense at times. Last 2 weeks I put back on 5kg. And last 4 nights have had minimal sleep maybe 4 hrs all I feel like doing is getting out of bed and exercising. So I have started doing that. My energy levels are definitely increasing.
after >5 years strict carnivore (since seeing you on JR), heavy weight training and excellent labs done regularly (creatinine consistently .9, A1c 5.1, Trigs 68) my kidneys shut down while riding my motorcycle cross country. I was unable to urinate, Creatinine levels jumped to 19. A catheter enabled >20 pounds of red/orange urine to be drained and after 9 days in the hospital, creatinine was back down to 3 and my urine is now a pale yellow. The doctors I have spoken to thus far have not answered any specific questions. or even mentioned the effects of protein/exercise in creatinine production. Referrals to the specialist money machine for myriad tests and "keeping an eye on it" are not the answers I'm looking for. New lab results may show successful treatment for a chronic UTI. The word "vegan" was first used in 1944 by British woodworker and animal rights advocate Donald Watson. Watson created the term as a derivative of "vegetarian" to describe people who don't eat meat, eggs, cheese, or anything that comes from an animal. He also intended it as a statement against vegetarians who ate dairy products, taking the first and last letters of the word "vegetarian" to create his own version
Linguists have also found an ancient equivalent for the word "vegan" that goes back much farther than 1944. In modern English it translates to "bad hunter". At least that's what someone else wrote in a youtube comment (so it must be right). ;-)
After spending years listening to both Dr. Shawn Baker’s & Antony Cummins’s channels-both completely different topics-I can safely say it’s always wise to invest time into learning from those Western men who regularly upload videos giving sensible advice on a specific topic while the sound of a sleeping dog can be heard in the background-it’s always a sign of a down-to-earth and logical mind, free of fluff or bull.
Ive been on carn for 2.5 mo. I have my own lawn company, sometimes its easy sometimes im digging rocks all day or hedge trimming. I probably have done curles 3 times since then and my biceps are noticeably bigger. Im completely vasculated now which i never was before. People always commenting how i look ripped. Lots a fair bit of weight of course and likely every bit of fat i had now im just rock everywhere. Only tough part is i have bad genetic skinny legs so i have to start going hardcore on these sticks. I do lots of walking so prob why they never get bigger.
I am hoping that maybe you can send me in the right direction or even do a video on this topic. I am looking for food combinations that provide the most efficient use of amino acids. I was watching a video where it was explained that if your body does not have all nine parts of the essentials then instead of using the proteins to build it turns the leftover pieces into sugars. So what I am looking for is a meal that combines foods with different amounts of the essentials to get the most efficiency out of the proteins. BTW the reason I am doing this is that I am desperately trying to reverse my type 2 diabetes. In the last 7 weeks I have brought my blood blood sugars from an average of 246 down to 126 but have hit a plateau and am finding that even on an ultra low carb diet with high fat and protein, I am still getting 40-50 spikes and I can not seem to get below the 126 average. Now a place to find the information on what foods contain what types and amounts of the 9 essential amino acids would be a great resource if you know where to look. Thanks for your time and great channel.
Recently, you said you have to get lean because of a competition coming up this summer or fall. Could you do a video on how to get lean on a carnivore and lose some visceral fat but gain muscle without creating an environment of constipation due to maybe low fat in order to lean up? Thank your for all your advice!
I took the baseline down to full carnivore (meat, eggs, dairy and beef fats) but a week into this my energy levels tanked, so I got back into eating apples again. Aged 42, I do resistance training 5 days a week and although I increased my fat intake I just could not get my energy levels back untill I had an apple 40min after my main meal (lunch). I also found that if I have eggs (hard-boiled) directly after training, it helps with muscle gains a lot.
been doing this diet with a few cheats here and there over past 2 years (wasn't fully uncomfortable cutting everything 100% out) my apendix burst, my low spine always hurts, and i find myself alot of different pains in my body as well as lower energy, 34 m under 10% BF, only thing i really have in my diet other then meat and water is coffee and or pre workout. work a physical labor job (rebar) and like to lift weights, hit heavy bag, sprint jump etc. generally eat eggs and butter, regular/lean ground beef mixing it up, fatty steaks. supplement things like magnesium, add salt to meals. Any advice, input or thoughts be great, i recall performing far better and less pain free at work and weight lifting when eating carbs.
Doc. I am 51yo. My question is energy. I started working out 3 days a week after 2 yrs carnivore (6weeks so far). I am OMAD. But I feel I am not even close to hungry at all and generally just force myself to eat when I do. I may try and eat an hour before working out. I'm 39 next month have been regularly weight lifting for 7 months, carnivore for 10 months. Have had no problem putting on muscle in that time (probably 'noob' gains after a long gym hiatus) I eat 2 meals a day each hitting easily 65-70 grams protein per meal (3 egg omelette stuffed with around 150-200 grams ground beef and topped with melted cheddar). I train in the morning in a fasted state and have a milk kefir-based clean protein shake (whey concentrate zero additives) + creatine immediately after training. Put on 6kgs lean muscle in 7 months. I weigh 70kgs and getting easily 150g protein/day, but more like 180 on average
@@jurisveipe4341 It depends on the type of cheese - i use cheddar which has 1.3 grams carbs per 100g which is perfectly fine. Most hard or semi-hard cheese is extremely low carb. A lot of the soft cheeses are higher carb. Always just check the nutritional info label and make sure it's low. Cheese is mostly fat and protein - exactly what you want. An excellent way to boost muscle growth is by using a sauna 3-4 times a week. It has been shown that growth hormone naturally increases dramatically afterwards and can be multiple times higher about 24 hours after using a sauna. So if you do a sauna Monday morning then do weight training Tuesday morning you'll be starting your recovery when your growth hormone is highly elevated. A study was done on this and others have replicated the results.
Hey dr Baker, so far my experience is not good in regards to carnivore and muscle building, i lost a fair bit of muscle, energy was terrible for so long i added back some carbs, looking back i was on only 130g of protein when normally id eat more like 200 but that was because all the conflicting information on here, some say low protein high fat and it cost me dearly. I would like to try again but terrified of losing any more muscle.
The only issue I have to get my calories is that if I eat dinner , my recovery is massively impacted (hrv) so the only way for me to keep my recovery and hrv up is to either avoid dinner or have it very early which isn’t always possible because of work schedule - not easy I’ve also noticed a decent dip in performance since on carnivore … maybe be thinking that being hectomorph my body probably is more efficient with carbs ? Any thoughts ?
Hard work (there is no substitute) Consistency prbly not going to see anything change in the mirror for 4-6 months. Kind of hard not to hit your macros on this diet but having a general idea of calories helps, if you are not putting on size make number go up, if you are putting size in the wrong area make number go down. Most people trying to put on size skip cardio which is hurting you. See lot's of people in the gym training their joints not their muscle, BUILDING is not moving weight from point A to point B, when you figure that out you'll start actually working the muscle and breaking it down to build it up.
@@Luke_MoonWalker Thanks for the heads-up. Mike Mentzer was a body builder, not a strength trainer. I have some concerns about his mental breakdown, and definitely about his death from heart failure at 49! I suspect it had to do with his diet. His workout style which would now be called HIIT, I do agree with. I should have made clear that I'm focused on athletic performance, not bodybuilding or looks.
@@peterm.eggers520 Body builders are strong. Also, his personal life and choices do not detract from his brilliance when it comes to physiology. He understood the importance of rest and taxing the muscles just enough to stimulate growth, then giving adequate time for recovery, which is when growth and repair happen. He emphasizes short, effective, workouts. Often times, highly intelligent people like him suffer from the realities of this realm, because as you get older you start to realize that we live in a society based on social manipulation and not merit. When this reality hits you, it's hard to cope, hence his downfall. He was probably the most intelligent competitive body builder to ever exist. I was not suggesting you jump on gear and amphetamines to improve your physique. I was suggesting you take a look at his workout routine as an effective means to get what you are looking for. I used to workout 4-5 times a week and realized that I was not gaining much strength or achieving the physique changes I was after. Now I hit the gym 1-2 times per week and my body is transforming. Also, HIIT is High Intensity Interval Training and refers to a cardio routine. HIT is just High Intensity Training and refers to Mentzer's method of pushing to failure to stimulate growth. Only reason I suggested it is because you were looking for a simple and effective routine that gets results. A Mentzer style routing would have you in the gym for an hour max 2 days a week. Seems ideal for what you are looking for.
Look up Caroline Girvan she has lots of programs if you haven’t worked out try her beginner. If you want pure lifting try her iron program. Most of her programs have lifting w an element of cardio or a 1 day of cardio. Sometimes the cardio is just shorter rest periods vs burpees etc. she has abt 2 yrs of programs then went to an app.
I've being on carnivore for a few months now. I decided to start training and also try to gain some muscle. working towards 100 pushups challenge. So just started doing sets of 20 until failure. First time i got 81 pushups in like 7 sets (2 sets of 20 and then a few pushups every time until i got to 81 and couldn't do more) i was sore for 5 days. Then after fully recovered i did it again. 3x20 and failed at the beginning. took one day to recover. Problem is that everyone talk about advance methods. Not much about how to start and get into it to begin with. Hopefully this challenge works out for me. resistance bands and X3 did not work for me.
The only problem I got is how to gain weight and muscle. I'm lean and 13 months in and never felt better! I know I can gain ''easily'' muscle by training and be sportive. but that's my problem: I work too much and have a wife and 2 young children. where do I get the time doing stuff for myself?
If you exercise during a fast, does your body produce the required insulin? I would guess that it does, and therefore I'm not sure that protein is important as it relates to insulin production for muscle building. But I agree that protein is very important for muscle as building material. Just not sure how much it matter in terms of hormones.
@shawnbakerMD I have been eating carnivore since Feb.2023. I am 6'-2", 49 years old now, and when I started I weighed 288 lbs. Since the beginning of 2024, I have steadied my weight at about 250 lbs. I still have a lot of fat I need to lose on my midsection and love handles most noticeably. What can I do to start losing this body fat?
Try fasting at the start of each month for 72-hours. You will gradually lose the extra fat. I'm doing a four day (96-hour) fast this week, and I treat it as a deload week where I don't workout or anything. Ever since I started doing this and working out, I've lost lots of fat on my thighs, back, and midsection. I didn't even stop drinking dairy (limited to 1-2 glasses a day). It is tough at first, but gets easier each time. You lose the hunger by day two, and you could do it up to five days without fear of losing any muscle mass at all even if you are on the skinnier side.
Puting on muscle should be actually be much more easily while on the carnivore.. and you'll be losing unwanted fat.. However, I'm blown away by the amount of carbs that body builders consume in their diets.. That one gal.. victoria scott.. I think she 40..and a WEFB.. She posts what some of her daily meals are.. and her trainer has her consuming several hundred grams of carbs.. in some of her phase eating.. Now with that said. someonr who has well below a 20% body fat.. is unlikely to have any Insulin resistance issues.. they have a ton of mucles.. and they will burn off/dispense of the carbs much more readily than anybody who's body fat is up somewhere around 30% or better. I still would not go back to eating carbs.. above 15 to 20 grams per day. I try to run around 10 grams per day. and can hit the mark pretty consistantly.
Well if you're20 yrs old you can eat junk and still be thin and fit no matter what you do but it hits ya like a ton of bricks when you get around 48 yrs old so....
idk. I've had certain fatty bites of meat and salt remind me of chocolate cake or maple syrup on pancakes. It's really strange, makes me wonder if these things are mimicking a reaction we evolved to incentivize meat.
Carnivore is great i love it but i still use a few select carbs around a work out just works better for me according to some anything 70% or more of nutrition coming from animal based sources is considered carnivore.
Got an issue 2-3 weeks into carnivore. Body just doesnt allow me to eat meat, as if it doesnt get digested quick enough ( not that i eat a lot) Is there anything i can take that helps digestion or help me create a good microbiome in my gut?
Went from 4 eggs, groundbeef and an ribeye from basicly not being able to eat any meat. As if its still in my stomach. Meats are very fatty and grassfed.
Will take 2- 6 months for your stomach to sort itself, im at 6 months carnivore now and finally things are mostly good, still have problems will cheese
Try eating some raw unheated honey and/or raw apple cider vinegar in water after you consume meat. The honey (specifically raw) has enzymes. You can try only cooking to rare or blue. Raw and blue doesn't feel like a brick in your stomach. But yeah raw is another level.
I started Keto 2 1/2 years ago then went to Carnivore a year after that, I no longer have arthritis and I have put on a little muscle. I would love to work out, but I am always too tired and just don't have the motivation. Any suggestions?
The diet most bodybuilders ate during the Golden Era and earlier was almost a Keto diet. Steve Reeves ate eggs and milk. It is only in the 90s and beyond that the diets became garbage and high carb. That is why they all look bloated now.
I've never had a problem with my gut using protein powders. I have had some issues when consuming too much fat in the beef sources I use. Steaks, hamburger. I'm not sure why this happens but I have to be careful how much fat I ingest or I have stomach issues.
That can have more to do with rendered fat than the solid fat itself. The liquid/greasy rendered fat could be overwhelming your gall bladder (or liver, if you no longer have a gall bladder). This forced you to produce extra bile salts to breakdown the liquid fat which can causes issues; also, if you drink water right before, during, or right after eating red meat, it can have the same effect, PLUS turn it into mush too quickly leading to diarrhea. It is actually best to avoid water 30 minutes prior to or after eating.
try eating your cooked meat cold, it is easier to eat and slows the absorption of fat. i love cold ground beef, i throw it in the fridge for an hour before i eat it.
Probably not producing enough bile. It takes time to build that up and if you're older you are fighting age and everything takes longer. An ox bile supplement will help in the interim.

Weirdly, for about a year of carnivore I didn't see much change in the gym. I was getting stronger over time but composition measurements showed I stalled. Also I didn't appear to change much. Gratitude you for the good work, Dr. Shawn Baker I don't think whey protein is correct on a carnivore diet, I prefer to eat ground beef muscle, 3 times a week, I have gained muscle satisfactorily, beef muscle generates human muscle for sure Another secret is to eat a variety of meats, whether prime or second-grade meat, second-class meat, eat it ground, Really eating 3 meals or at least 2 is important, And don't forget to train!!! Together we are stronger

I (and many others) have experienced the opposite. Bad breath is usually the result of three things: 1. Food pulp stuck in your teeth and on your tongue 2. Gas 3. Dead/dying teeth and/or gum disease #1 just doesn't happen on carnivore. In fact, your teeth will have never looked cleaner. #2 also doesn't happen as you no longer have digestive distress from fermenting plants and grains and indigestible fiber. #3 many people have seen this REVERSED on carnivore. There is a moment - and I mean literally a moment - where someone entering ketosis for the first time will have a metallic taste in their mouth. But it doesn't last, and it certainly doesn't give off an odor. You also will notice that your sweat isn't as prone to bacteria build-up and thus reduced body odor.
Back in my old days eating carbs I would get bad breath when I increased protein. And real bad gas. Quite the opposite on carnivore. So I guess there is something going on with the carbs AND extra protein.
@tradermunky1998 very little fruit and some dairy but mostly carnivore. It could be just me, but I notice people backing up. My teeth are always cleaned and flossed. It may be coming from my gut, but I can't smell anything coming from me. I've been told I'm intimidating looking, but either way, it's causing damn anxiety.
Carnivore is the worst diet if you want to get muscular. I wouldnt have 18 inch arms at 60 years old on a carnivore diet. What you have to understand is muscle is 72% water. When you cut out carbs. The glycogen that holds the water in the muscles depletes. And there goes alot of your size. Don't ever demonise carbs. Whole food quality carbs are amazing.
@@TheGriceglobal Next to me neither is buff. They have no arms. Its like Keto. You can't keep full powerful muscle on that either. I will take both of them apart in the gym. And im older than both of them which is the POINT.
If you want to build real muscle do real work. Gym muscle is artificial and can backfire on you. Manual labour is called that for a reason. I built my body in the real world, not in a gym full of roid junkies and poseurs looking for a quicky in the shower. Build a shed, cut fire wood, mend your fence, make your body do something useful for once.
Notice how 115 years old people’s aren’t lifting weights 3 to 4 times a week for two hours a day? I’ll give Shawn Baker credit for the fact a man of his age (57) can jump, lift heavy weights etc, but at the end of the day, the man won’t live very long. He’s putting tremendous amount of stress to his body, it’s inevitably going to wear it’s self out.

Thanks for the info. What is your opinion on creatinine being added to a carnivore diet to help boost muscle growth?
The recurring "theme" (for a lack of a better word) I keep on hearing is to go to muscular failure, in other words reps to failure and you will grow
At least that's what someone else wrote in a youtube comment (so it must be right). ;-)

Hey dr Baker, so far my experience is not good in regards to carnivore and muscle building, i lost a fair bit of muscle, energy was terrible for so long i added back some carbs, looking back i was on only 130g of protein when normally id eat more like 200 but that was because all the conflicting information on here, some say low protein high fat and it cost me dearly. I would like to try again but terrified of losing any more muscle.
The only issue I have to get my calories is that if I eat dinner , my recovery is massively impacted (hrv) so the only way for me to keep my recovery and hrv up is to either avoid dinner or have it very early which isn’t always possible because of work schedule - not easy
I’ve also noticed a decent dip in performance since on carnivore … maybe be thinking that being hectomorph my body probably is more efficient with carbs ? Any thoughts ?
There's a reason there are almost no athletes or bodybuilders doing the carnivore thing at the higher levels.
I reached a weight loss plateau but since I lift weights is it because I am gaining muscle?
Hard work (there is no substitute) Consistency prbly not going to see anything change in the mirror for 4-6 months. Kind of hard not to hit your macros on this diet but having a general idea of calories helps, if you are not putting on size make number go up, if you are putting size in the wrong area make number go down. Most people trying to put on size skip cardio which is hurting you. See lot's of people in the gym training their joints not their muscle, BUILDING is not moving weight from point A to point B, when you figure that out you'll start actually working the muscle and breaking it down to build it up.
Good video!
What im more interested in though is optimal strength training in minimal time.
Any thoughts?
Mike Mentzer... Look him up.
@@Luke_MoonWalker
Thanks for the heads-up.
If you haven’t done Starting Strength, then that’s the place to start. Three days per week focusing on the big lifts.

So basically increase meal frequency and consume adequate-to-excess protein. Did I miss anything?

If your taking half a pharmacy then you probably could do with some carbs 😂
My goal is to get shoulders and arms like Shawn, even tho hes 10 cm taler than me.
He’s a good dude
❤
Add fruit ?
Everybody needs to cut their own path.
But lately both I and my wife perceive myself as more muscular while composition measurements show more fat. Anyone has any idea what could be going on?
Carb diet helps you hold on to water, so your muscles are puffier.
So what's the end result aesthetically after a year of carnivore and lifting vs before carnivore?
@@cornstar1253 so you think water in muscles got replaced by actual muscles and now they just continue growing? That sounds interesting.
@@tonycamaj4560 I think my shoulders got bigger, maybe also arms and chest. At least that's how it looks.
I'm 54 and lift every other day.
But doing only doing one certain body part combo 1 time per week for recovery.
And 1 meal per day.
50 year old fat morbidly obese man carnivore for over 10 months not losing strength even I had some severe recent illnesses start working out hard back at the gym love doing the work…please subscribe, share & like the videos to expand carnivore community…Thanksgiving Dr Baker
Gratitude you for the good work, Dr. Shawn Baker
I don't think whey protein is correct on a carnivore diet,
I prefer to eat ground beef muscle, 3 times a week, I have gained muscle satisfactorily, beef muscle generates human muscle for sure
Another secret is to eat a variety of meats, whether prime or second-grade meat, second-class meat, eat it ground,
Really eating 3 meals or at least 2 is important,
And don't forget to train!!!
Together we are stronger
As 8-time Mr Olympia Lee Haney once said "You have to lift big to get big" so don't ignore the big basic lifts for muscle growth and progressing them over time. Peter Khatcherian's channel is one to watch for this sort of sage advice.
Since starting carnivore I have lost alot of size due to no carbs. No muscle fullness
How long has it been since you started and how has strength and energy been affected?
@@tonycamaj4560 mate I'm probably couple months in pretty strict.
Strength is good. Went through the energy lows to start but come good after a couple of weeks .
All my bloat has gone and better mental clarity but no inflammation drops really. Body is very sore lower back and knees still
Eat more train harder.
What about electrolytes?
Yes pitifully low in electrolytes on carnivore
That's why many of these grifters ( influncers ) shill electrolytes, just like the lion does ( carnivore lion diet reference )
Even Dr Faker supplements his body parts with sodium and God knows what else .
And these grifters think steak is " nutritionally complete. " 😂
Only necessary when you transition from carbs to meat only. Redmond salt works
🥩 💪
That's a future experiment of mine!
Add duck fat.
Yeah it’s called working out
I really think there's something very awesome about steroids. I would consider it when I'm 70 years old.
Beef Rules
Eat beef hearts guys, seriously. It's main source of creatine
Not too much at all on the organ meat otherwise you could get protein poisoning-organ meat shouldn’t be consumed regularly.
@@jacqueliner7585 I had been eating beef hearts almost exclusively for over year WITH additional creatine supplementation. I am fine. Protein poisoning is possible only without enough fat
@@olgagerman4878 Just returned from PHC with these carnivore advocating doctors - what was written up “ Eat rarely if desired & no reaction.”
I agree it’s an optimal source if you eat enough fat but not many ppl would understand the consequences of regularly eating on a weekly basis. Good point you made. 🤗
@@olgagerman4878 Just been at the PHC London and what was scripted by Dr Anthony Chaffee advocating carnivore was; Organ meat - Sub Optimal Range - “Eat rarely if desired & no reaction”. Eat all dairy.
I agree with you but not everyone understands the consequences of eating offal on a regular (say weekly) basis and without eating enough fat. It’s one to watch with caution. The recommendation was a few times throughout a year is safe 🤷♀️. You made a good point! Fats are important too.
@@jacqueliner7585 it's all just about macros. Just stick to high fat and you'll be fine
Trt?
Only if you want baby sized gonads. Might as well be vegan.
Does high protein cause bad breath
I don’t know about the protein being a factor but ketosis can I believe
I (and many others) have experienced the opposite. Bad breath is usually the result of three things:
1. Food pulp stuck in your teeth and on your tongue
2. Gas
3. Dead/dying teeth and/or gum disease
#1 just doesn't happen on carnivore.
@@user-sp1gw8gz3oketosis will make your breath fruity.....bad breath is probably something else
Taking protein powder when you're already on the Carnivore Diet is absurd!
Sometimes it can be a cheap drink to add on if your struggling to eat enough
Exacto
It can help with logistics during hard times.
If you have a nice neighborhood butcher, you can sometimes get some extra fat for free.
Would you recommend milk instead?
How to build muscle on carnivore diet: the same way you build muscle on every other diet.
True it's what you do to strengthen you! But it requires protein. The best protein is with Carnivore eating!
That's not muscle that is sarcoplasmic fluid
@@Christian-tw3sp
You dont curl a 100lb barbell for reps with fluid bub. Post a picture and let's see what this carnivore diet has done for your arms.
@stevemann1299 have you seen dr chaffee or even watch this video of dr. Baker these guys are buff as ish from carnivore
@@TheGriceglobal
Next to me neither is buff. They have no arms. Its like Keto. You can't keep full powerful muscle on that either. I will take both of them apart in the gym. And im older than both of them which is the POINT.
@@stevemann1299 I humbly disagree with you dr chaffee def has guns my guy and dr baker is probably bigger than you based on your profile pic
You don't because low insulin levels don't allow amino acids to transport into cells, and fat clogs the insulin receptors.
Protein excess converts to glucose. That causes the insulin to rise slower. It's still happening though. And fat doesn't clog your insulin receptors.
@@cornstar1253don’t waste your time arguing with this troll….
Please name a big muscular bodybuilder who is exclusively carnivore…
There are none.
this goes against nearly every X3 principal
Syringe
Notice how 115 years old people’s aren’t lifting weights 3 to 4 times a week for two hours a day? I’ll give Shawn Baker credit for the fact a man of his age (57) can jump, lift heavy weights etc, but at the end of the day, the man won’t live very long. He’s putting tremendous amount of stress to his body, it’s inevitably going to wear it’s self out.
He's just fine!!! Jack Leland lived to be 96 and he trained relentlessly every frikkin day!
