Pokemon X & Y are the main series games I haven't played in the longest time... but can we beat one of its hardest challenges?! It's time to attempt a hardcore nuzlocke of Pokemon X with only Ground types!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon X Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Ground types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

16:55 Fun fact: you can actually decline the Lucario! I did it in a normal playthrough to see what would happen, expecting a dumb line like "The bond between you and Lucario is too strong to ignore!" but it actually just stayed there.
I would never try my chances of not getting a lucario
they do kind of guilt trip you into accepting though. otherwise he just stands there all sad 'waiting' for you lol

In order for Shauna to heal you in the forest you have to talk to her. She doesn't heal automatically.

and near the end of the forest she stops healing you
Which I find ridiculous it should be automatic only if your pokemon are lower than half life after a battle but that's just me
17:11 Why wasn’t it in Galar?! Not even the expansion pack?! Decently strong Grass Type, pretty good coverage to deal with all of its weaknesses, and Skidoo is SO CUTE!!!

Probably best you lost Cayde early. Since it was male it wouldn’t become part ground type

I actually just did a challenge run in Y! Yes Shauna says she’ll heal you, but you need to talk to her to activate it. It’s not like Gen 4 with partners and how they do it automatically after every battle, which is stupid
In a nuzlocke it's probably preferable, if you want your guts pokemon to stay poisoned, or if you want your dead party member to stay dead, etc.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m almost certain that the theme for this was Destiny, what with Traveller and Zavala, although why you chose it for ground types is beyond me

They just usually look cool. Look at Weavile, Yveltal, Zoruark etc.
Although, I do admit that a lot of ground types look cool too, krookodile (one of my favourites), nidoking, rhydon, Zygarde 100%

I agree! X and Y had it's flaws (HMS) but they are some of my favorite games.

Great pokemon spawns, great location, an mega evolutions... but the characters... god the gym leaders, rivals, an evil team just makes an amazing game feel so bland, boring, an straight up goofy

Seeing videos on the 3ds games is a nice refresher, so many hardcore nuzlocke videos are the gen 3 games and occasionally gen 4 and 5. As somebody that didnt start playing pokemon until Gen 4 and really getting into the games in gen 6 it makes me happy to actually see the modern games being played.
Just saying, you mustn’t be looking very hard. Usum is a very popular nuzlocke game uploaded due to the difficulty

I love the fact that his final team has my 5 favorite Ground Types, Krookodile, Flygon, Nidoking, Mamoswine, and Golurk, plus Quagsire, another one of my favorite Ground types

Kalos is one of my favorite regions, I love the selection of pokemon available. It was really fun to complete the pokedex back in the day

I do love flygon more than most dragons but I really feel like it should be bug/dragon rather than ground
Nice to see silph finally tackling one of the 3ds games. I know X and Y are generally seen as really easy even by Pokémon standards, but they can still be really fun to nuzlocke.

Question: Did you have some self imposed challenge to use EQ as little as possible? Even with a type boosting item, EQ would do more than Crunch or Dragon Claw if both are super effective. (IE using Dragon Claw on Tyrantrum and Crunch on Chandelure.)

It makes me very happy to see my favorite nuzlocke channel doing a nuzlocke of x. I'm currently doing a bug type nuzlocke and I'm happing alot of fun using button pass with swords dance and iron defense on Scolipede to swap into whatever I need to absolutely clean house
Man, challenge videos make it look so easy. I'm doing my first nuzlocke of my favorite game in the franchise, bw2, and I've lost 12 mons by the 7th gym! Hopefully this B team will be able to get me through the rest of the game. (Magnezone is my carry, GO BROKEN STEEL TYPE!!)
I actually loved the companions in pokemon x. I spent a little bit of time in the "post game" trying to find where they all had run off to.

Pokémon X and Y I had been playing around with a rule set in my head for a while now, My idea tho for for a Hardcore Nuzlocke rule set (not mono type) with the obvious hardcore rules but since all the Gym Leaders have 3 mons and none use a mega. I was gonna do Gym Battles max 3 mons on my team and only able to use a mega in a battle where the opponent uses a mega
I like this, and implementing a rule where I use the level cap to match each level of the gym leaders mons too. So like 17,18,21 my level cap isnt 21, its 17,18,21 to match the leader.

Good video and run, but I gotta be *that* guy here since I haven't seen it mentioned yet. Your Burmy was technically illegal according to your rules. Burmy is always mono-Bug, actually, regardless of form. It only gains its Grass, Ground, or Steel secondary type after evolving into Wormadam. Even allowing for Pokémon that *eventually* gain the Ground typing, your Burmy was male, and thus would have evolved into Mothim (Bug/Flying) instead of Wormadam.

Would love a wonder trade hardcore nuzlocke for this gen. Not sure how active the game still is though, might be hard to pull off without doing a live stream where you ask viewers to spam trades. Would be lots of fun though.

Im actually doing a wonderlocke of this gen now and honestly, the wonder trade game is still pretty good!
If anything it's almost a little better - I've gotten a few stinkers here and there, but I've gotten a lot more starters, breedjects, fossils, rare egg moves, ect.
I personally try and do my part by breeding version exclusives and Pokerus mons. Still very viable in my opinion!

Serena heals you when you speak to her, and you can refuse the Lucario to keep the run clean. I know that game too well, one of my faves.
I will never understand why Golett and Golurk get the Klutz ability. It's just a waste of the player's time, since normally you can catch another one with Iron Fist instead.
X&Y were the first pokemon games I beat. It'll always hold a special place in my heart :)

Man krookodile is a beast, my first play through of Pokemon black I had an adamant nature moxie krookodile and he carried me through the rest of the game basically. He was also the only member that never died, glad I named him Destroyer because every trainer I met got destroyed 8 ways to Sunday. Don't sleep on the goofy croc

You made one of my favourite references of all time! DIGGERSBY THO!!! Diggersby became one of my favourite Pokémon ever after I saw that Shofu video and after I learned about Huge Power. It sucks thag so many people think he’s ugly 💔 I’m like, he’s just chillin, he’s just the Diggersby tho!
