The best Losers run in Smash Ultimate is MKLeo´s frost bite run. He got upset by Mario on Round 1 of winners , and then went on an insane rampage and destroyed the field into winning the tournament. He literally beat all top players and the reason he did not beat the Number 1 player is because HE HIMSELF WAS THE #1 PLAYER
Not any Mario player - then known as Prodigy, now known as Kurama But back then, Leo was so dominant that there was no doubt he could do it. He was the number one against people he (if I recall correctly) had a mostly positive record against, ending the run VS Maister (he's like 23-1 on Maister now). It was a craaaaazy run, but I think Sonix tops that given the context
@@יונתןשי-ת4וAdd on the context of the increase in skill compared to back then and the relatively low gap. At that time, Leo was ten miles ahead of everyone, but now, the top 25 or so are all relatively close skill wise. I'd still personally give best losers run to Sparg0's Kagaribi 10 run, but I absolutely see why Sonix's Supernova run is considered #1 by many
@typhlosion7872 frostbite 2020 was over a year into ults life and Leo got brought to game 5 several times. To claim that the players he beat were inferior is disrespectful and just untrue, especially when guys like tweek, master, tea, and zackray are still top level competitors.
While it only resulted in a fourth place, I wanna give a shout out to Dabuz's losers run at Double down 2022. He won 12 sets in a row if I'm not miscounting, with wins over Chag, Ned, Kurama, Sonix, Jakal and KEN.
18:16 You were indeed correct, Frostbite 2020 was literally the first tournament that came to mind. I was waiting literally the entire video for you to mention it.
Another losers run worth mentioning is Kuroponzu's run at sumabato 47 which was a 12 set losers run to 2nd from a player whos previous best placement at a major was 13th. This might be the most impressive losers run if you take into account the player it came from given that 8 out of his 12 wins were upsets.
I've watched most of the video. IMO the top 3 are Leo's Frostbite 2020, Sparg0's Kagaribi 10 and Leo's EVO 2019, mostly because I value winning the tournament outright rather then placing 2nd, and they all have comparable wins to Sonix's Supernova run. Sonix's Supernova run is probably 4th because of that, at least in my eyes.
I personally think that winning a tournament is heavily overrated and is proof of the hype bias. It's almost as if getting second was actually getting 3rd or 5th in comparison to getting 1st when in reality the only difference is usually one win + some points. Clutching it out adds importance points? Sure, but no way in hell does it make getting first like 3-4 times better than getting second, that's utterly ridiculous.
I think a losers run that tends to get overlooked a bit is Hurt’s performance at Delta 5. While probably not in contention for the best losers run ever, he is one of only 3 players to beat both Acola and Miya at the same tournament (the other 2 being Spargo and Sonix), in addition to scoring wins on other top 20 players Shuton, Ken, and Yaura.
@@HamzaKhan-mk5lb Worst part is that Sonix plays Sonic bc of how much he likes him and people still hate on it. Like bro, he has no choice regardless of wether you like it or not lol
@@Moiraxdtt Even if he didn’t like the character its always funny to see people get mad at someone for playing good characters. Like its their job to compete why would they play a low tier lmao
Importance is such a dumb category it’s super subjective and then based off categories that are waaaaay outside of the losers run itself and shouldn’t be used to determine how good a losers run is.
I actually had a really good run in the school's tournament I hosted, I went to losers bracket round 1 and ended up winning the whole thing. You can make a video about if you want to walt, no problems here pookiebear
IF SONIX WON SUPERNOVA IT WOULDVE BEEN THE BEST RUN IN ALL OF SMASH But it’s not so that’s really an unfortunate way to say that Mkleo’s Frostbite was better simply because he won
(It's pronounced lawed not loud, your videos are great, absolutely love them, please don't take this as more than a minor correction for someone who's content I really enjoy seeing and made me like Melee despite myself)
IMO, if Sonix won this event, it’d put him in serious contention for number 1 at the time Even after his bad lumi invitational run, he’s atp still top 3, or at least still in the top 4
Havent watched the video yet but imo #1 Leo Frostbite 2020 #2 Sparg0 Kagaribi 10 #3 Sonix Supernova 2024 (even though he didn't win it he beat like half of the upcoming top 10 let's be so fr) hms are Miya's Seibugeki 12 (longest losers run to win at 13 sets), Leo Evo 2019 (not the greatest in terms of wins but definitely the most iconic) and Tweek Port Priority 7
Id say spargo at kag 10 slightly beats out leo at frostbite considering how much higher the skill level of play has gotten and that it was the first non iapanese player to win a japanese major
As someone who watched tennis and football way before I watched smash, I never understood the appeal of double elimination brackets. There’s nothing cool about losing and not being eliminated. There’s way more tension when every match played is someone’s last.
What you say is true, but there are also advantages to double elimination. 1. Unlike pro sports, most tournaments allow anyone to enter. People are a lot more likely to travel and pay the entry fee if they are guaranteed to play more than 1 match. Pools matches help with this as well, guaranteeing several matches for each competitor, before the bracket even begins. (Amateur sports tournaments often have a consolation bracket, which is not the same as double elimination, but is similar in that it guarantees at least 2 matches per player) 2. A set in smash bros is relatively short. And since it's a video game and not a physical sport, players have the endurance to play far more matches than in pro sports. With double elimination you can have so many more matches, which is good for content and ultimately good for the community.

thank you walt, very cool
Awesome!
Probably my own losers run. I've been a loser for 26 years now. I'll likely be running for 74 more years. Hard to beat that.
One day I'll surpass you
I’m gonna live to 101 just to beat you
Life is an 8 billion people bracket. That's true.
@Jvdde which will only make him even more of a loser
Same but i am 27 so my loosers run is allready better then yours

Sonix having the second greatest losers run is truly salt in the wound
XD he probaly hates that number
The fact that Sparg0’s win at Kagaribi 10 was the first time a North American won a Japanese Supermajor makes it even better
Why the North American distinction? Has a South American won a Japanese Supermajor before?
Technically Mexico is central America 🤓👆
