The landmark they got to Devil's Tower is famous from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Classic Speilberg, worth a watch if you haven't seen it. Cheers, glad you dig the movie
I've not seen one reaction to this movie, where the reactors have got that reference. Makes me sad that so many people have missed out on Close Encounters.
@@leah-marie5031 nope, film would've been much better if he had though. Also alot of the stuff that happens is based on real UFO accounts from experts in the field such as Dr Greer, who I'm convinced is a hack, but still it's not just plucked out of thin air....
This is one of my fave Sci-fi movies for one very simple reason: IT'S FUN!! Haven't you missed Fun, in the films of the last ten years or so?! Everybody really seemed to be having a ball making this film and it shows. Witty, fun script, good effects and the actors having fun, great story, awesome soundtrack with lots of ELO...what more do you need?!
I remember when I watched this in the cinema and I remember thinking all the way through the movie "I recognise the voice of the woman Agent Zoil is speaking to" but I couldn't think who it was. I loved it when it turned out to be Sigourney Weaver.
The Mountain was a call back to Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind (A Spielberg sci-fi film). So glad you chose to review this film, its so underrated. 👍🏻
If you can get hold of it, the British TV series "Spaced" for more Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. On the surface it's a sitcom about two people sharing a flat in London, but it has loads of SF and cult TV references all the way through. There's a mode on the DVD that lists all of the callbacks as they come up.
The location they went to Devils Mountain is a famous scene in Close Encounters of the third kind it's a Stephen Spielberg movie Richard Dreyfuss Stars in it. And the line "get away from her you bitch" was a line Sigourney Weaver used in Aliens, I recommend you watch both movies.....but if you watch Aliens which is a sequel to Alien you'll need to watch, also with Sigourney Weaver.
Morecombe & Wise were reluctant to do BBC TV comedy skits while sharing a double bed, until somebody pointed out that Laurel & Hardy did it all the time in their films. 👍🙂
Guys, I loved this reaction. The cool thing about Simon Pegg and Nick Frosts movies is they put soooo much in them that they have great re-watch-ability. Even after 3, 4+ times rewatching you always pick up new little bits.
Surprised that you didn't recognise Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) from the Alien films playing the mysterious leader. I'd recommend Simon Pegg and Derren Brown clip (Not too long) of Simon be mind manulation performed on him. Then once you have discovered Derren Brown you will be down a whole new rabbit hole. Hero at 30,000 Feet is a good one to start with.
Love watching you two react to this and perfect timing having watched the other movies. I know it gets mentioned to you a lot but their original series Spaced will give some real insight into where they came from and you’ll see a lot of familiar faces from the movies too! Other movie recommendations would be Attack the Block, Son of Rambow, and Four Lions- all very different but all brilliant x
Spaced. You've got to watch it, I can't imagine you not really enjoying it - Simon Pegg co-wrote, Edgar Wright directs, Pegg & Frost acting in it along with a lot of great British comedians and actors too, plus I think you'd also really enjoy Close Encounters of the Third Kind too, Richard Dreyfus is just superb in it. Keep up the good work guys :)
This Movie does have it all. So much heart and so much fun. One of those that everybody loves but just don’t seem to talk about anymore. Filled with references to other classic nerdy or sci fi films too. Brilliant.
When people say "If you're not a science fiction/alien nerd, you won't get half the references," they are right. But, it doesn't matter. It's still funny.
1:07:43 end credits are part of the every movie, you have only seen movie in it's full if you watch the end credits. So if you really appreciate this art form, you watch the credits always.
Don't worry, we have the legal term 'Alien' here too. My mum was classed as an alien when she was born in Germany on a British base to English parents.
@1:03:35 "Get away from her you bitch" is an exact quote from Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver) playing here, well, said bitch lol Such an awesome underrated movie!
There are a lot of sc-fi references in this movie. "You'll know it when you see it" is said in reference to the rock formation because its a landmark in the movie "Close encounters of the third kind" and im pretty sure a similar set peice appears in (i think its called) race to witch mountain...
Love that you love this. One of my favourite movies. Why not give the (Uk) sitcom “Spaced” a go? It’s where it all started for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Or the sketch show “Big Train”….
You need to check out Attack The Block. Nick Frost has a small part in this but it was the film that launched John Boyega. Really great film that does not get anywhere near as much attention as it should.
As a former resident of Wyoming, there is a town of Moorcroft ( it's in the middle of nowhere) and Thermopolis. I was shocked when they actually named those towns. I grew up in Worland. Thermopolis is 28 miles south of Worland.
_The term "alien" is derived from the Latin alienus. The Latin later came to mean a stranger, a foreigner, or someone not related by blood_ So actually you're using it correctly.
I find it interesting the joke when the cop asks how do British police shoot people seemed to go over your heads. For me this is the funniest joke of the movie, a subtle dig at US gun laws. The cop seems to see shooting people as part of his job.

Once we were in the conversation though it was fantastic and had an absolute blast.
I like all the film references in this movie from Aliens, Jaws, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Trek, Buck Rogers, Indiana Jones, ET - these are the ones I know of. Plus the joke around Zoil’s name which is a name of a movie Lorenzo’s Oil 😂 Great movie.
We know what alien means, it’s not a derogatory term and it’s not used for non white people who are illegal immigrants, it refers to anybody from another country, illegal alien is used for an illegal immigrant and again, it’s not derogatory, the word alien literally means belonging to a foreign country, it comes from the Latin alienus meaning belonging to another which comes from the Latin Alius meaning other which comes from the Welsh word All meaning other.
