In this Broadcast Award-winning, BAFTA and Emmy Award-nominated entertainment show, Taskmaster tyrant Greg Davies (Man Down, Cuckoo), with the help of his loyal assistant Alex Horne (The Horne Section and the show’s creator), sets out to test the wiles, wit and wisdom of five hyper-competitive comedians.
Comedians that have risked life, limb, and dignity in the hope of making the Taskmaster proud so far include: Frank Skinner (The Frank Skinner Show), Mel Giedroyc (The Great British Bake Off), Romesh Ranganathan (Asian Provocateur), Hugh Dennis (Outnumbered), Sally Phillips (Bridget Jones’ Diary), Rose Matafeo (Edinburgh Comedy Award Winner 2018), and Russell Howard (The Russell Howard Hour). Unaware of what awaits them in each wax-sealed envelope, only one competitor can become the victorious owner of His Royal Task-ness’ golden head and be crowned the next Taskmaster Champion.

American Game show: Let's have an ordinary person with a devastating Dickensian backstory play a dramatic game with an opportunity to win a life changing amount of money
British Game Show: Let's have a rotating cast of about 2 dozen comedian/ personalities do mundane stuff and just provide them a platform to be funny
The UK is light-years ahead when it comes to light entertainment television. In America we can compete when it comes to drama, scripted comedy, and other genres, depending on your tastes. But the UK has a real Monopoly on quality light entertainment and game shows.

As a comedian in the states, I wish we had that kind of platform to aspire to. As is, the most cozy a comedian gets is late night talk or increasingly-not-satire satire news. A regular on the panel circuit? Damn near hedonism.

S.S. Name Yeah what James said. It’s essentially like their own version of the Oscars or the Emmys, except uhh, British. Its still a big deal considering the show’s only been around for 5 ish years

It is interesting how in every group task, even though the boys have one more person, it never ends up being an advantage
It's been that way for each series, thankfully. The tasks are varied enough that having 2 or 3 isn't a definite advantage or disadvantage either way.
Pretty sure Alex makes sure not to create tasks that benefit from bigger teams, after the series 2 one where they had to get a third person to even the teams.

Love the small glimpse we get of relaxed James without his full Acaster persona as he is meeting Phil and Rhod! (18:27) I absolutely adore his deadpan, apathetic/detached style but it’s kinda fun to see him chill.

I have a feeling he'll only hold that title until Lee Mack's season airs, but the two of them are by far two of the quickest witted people I've ever witnessed.
Sometimes it does seem like that. And then sometimes he does whatever the fuck that circle thing was.
His callbacks are so good. Like when Rhod says he's broke and he says yeah, because he bought 500 pounds worth of fizzy belts.
Watch him on Mock the week compilations. His wit is surreal.

I really would've loved to see James and Jess on a team. They think very much alike (like the first two prize tasks, and their stories) and they are my favorite contestants maybe of all series.
They have the same chaotic good energy.

All the bullying they do to Alex is really put into perspective when you realize he's the show creator and Davies is just the points giver.

Both teams had the option to say: "Right"
And they chose to say banana
Because they wanted to use right for the direction

The haggling bit is the funniest thing ever, and it works shockingly well as a recurring bit. “He said fifty pounds, I said thirty, he said fifty, I said forty… so I paid fifty pounds…”

I think if you’re going to give Rhod the to-scale circle-on-a-map, then you also have to consider the map projection, which would make what he drew very much not a circle. If he was going to be a clever boy, he should have just drawn a straight line along the equator
This show in America definitely doesn’t belong on CW. It feels like an NBC show to me. That, and there was no advertising whatsoever. I didn’t even know it aired here and failed till 5 minutes ago
There's been an American version and it was pretty hopeless. The show is so insanely funny because the comedians are incredibly crap at everything and happy to laugh at their own crappiness, which is sort of the opposite of American humor.
If NBC (or another major channel) would do it, they would make a it a variation of gladiator meets America's got talent meets stand-up, and all the fun would be immediately gone.
i think it would've done better on NBC. but, i think the other problem is that nobody in the states knows who any of these people are. the success on youtube is because this is where we all find other panel shows but people who watch on actual tv have no idea of this whole other side of comedy.
Americans are too competitive to make this work, they'd forget the point is to be funny not to win.
I maintain that this show could be funny in America if cast properly. Maybe hosted by Nick offerman? Ilana Glazer, Terry Crews, Paul Thompkins, Justin McElroy, Bill Corbit, Donald Glover, Jane Lynch, Andy Samberg as potential cast?
@@cheers4life100 I didn't know who any of these people were, and I started watching Taskmaster with season 7 - and all of these five really grew on me. The beauty of the show is that you get to know the contestants quite well over the course of the season.
It's certainly a far more insightful view into them than watching a 5-minute clip on a random panel show.

I have ADHD like our charming boi Rhod and love to analyze stuff, so let me itemize and assess his attractive traits:
1. His ADHD traits.
While some people find them initially exciting but eventually annoying, I personally am drawn to other ADHD folk because many of us are creative, spontaneous, risk-seeking, fun, funny, adventurous, etc. Rhod is certainly all of those things.
For neurotypical people, I imagine that we also give off a sense of being something different than "normal" humans, and if you like us that could seem awe inspiring or intimidating in an arousing way.
2. His nationality/ethnicity.
Straight up, the Welsh accent is very sexy to my Midwestern US ear. It's got a lovely singsong quality to it.
I think it's also very attractive to see confidence in an underdog. Wales has had to fight to get out from under England's thumb for a long time, so it's good to see confident and successful Welsh people in the public eye.
3. His age.
For young adults, Rhod is not so old as to seem elderly but he does have enough features of old age (wrinkles, grey in beard and hair, often gruff manner) to be a clear silver fox or Daddy type. And the experience and confidence that that implies.
First time I saw Greg giving the summary of James's circle task, I was laughing so much I couldn't breath. James's reaction then killed me :D
Absolute insanity that Jessica didn't guess "eight" but her commitment to insanity (as well as everyone else's) is part of what makes this series so special.
The fact that Greg has started restating the basic instructions of the live task in what is clearly his teacher voice is hilarious to me. It's the voice I've used for basic, unambiguous instructions that I just *know* are about to be entirely disregarded.
Okay but can you imagine the possible outcomes we could’ve had if James and Jess were on a team together? It would be absolutely chaotic and loony. I want it so badly!

The fact that the points were awarded to the group up the line 1 2 3 4 5 in the prize task and backwards 5 4 3 2 1 in the first proper task is sooo satisfying
Easily my favorite series of this show, Acaster and Rhod just bring a level of manic insanity to every task that's wildly appreciated, honestly though everyone here is phenomenal
when James said the episode title I lost it, like the kind of laugh that doesn't make any noise because you’re laughing so hard, the delivery, the prefix, and the twinkle in his eyes really did it for me
James‘ facial expressions when he just stares at the camera or at someone are literally the funniest

I thought the same thing when they announced The CW was going to air it. They took it off after 1 episode. I hope they bring it back, I love this show and it needs to be seen by more people.

I just noticed after rewatching this episode a few times.
I adore the moments when the group starts working together to tell a good joke- like when Greg and Rhod chip in to Kerry’s story.

I've seen the garage door incident so many times that I'm always tripped out by watching the men's other team tasks and seeing James and Rhod actually working well together
