And this is why I get ticked off whenever some internet moron bitches about never liking clarkson and that the show was always shit and that top gear fanboys are fake petrolheads and whatnot, those people don't get what made top gear so special to so many people. Like you said, it's primarily about these three having the kind of fun a lot of people can't have today.
You don't come to their era of top gear for sensible practical reviews of boring efficient modern cars everybody can buy. Just go to other dreary motoring journalists, or just youtube if that's all you want. If you watch the trio for that and then complain, you're a massive miserable idiot.

@@adamsaxton3044 Clarkson made the point that the show was nothing without him.... (and to an extent that might be true) ..... it was incredibly disappointing that the other two appeared to condone the actions in that they stood with him.
There was a due process provided to Clarkson and the overwhelming reposnse was that give the physical and verbal assault had not been a reasonable response to any provocation he was fired.
Why should there be one law/rules for a lead and not the rest of the team. The BBC was right, even though the head of the BBC admitted that he was a talent the BBC could ill afford to lose.

Jeremy Clarkson, along with Andy Willman, pioneered the modern irreverent style of presenting fact-based shows and documentaries. They took Richard Hammond in when he couldn't get arrested in the media business and made him one of Britain's most sought-after presenters. We hoped it would never end, but knew that eventually it must. And true audience pleasers to the last, they haven't even said goodbye without giving us a few more encores. Nobody else has the guts to do television this way anymore.

As much as I loved Top Gear, I really wish they’d of made the move from the BBC to a streaming platform like Amazon a lot sooner. The BBC restricted so much for them and obviously kept the budget as low as possible. Im a fan of Paddy, Flintoff and LeBlanc but Top gear post the trio was always doomed from the start

I find that very interesting, because I personally found the fact that the budget was obviously far smaller at the BBC one of Top Gear's best factors. The cheap car challenges, the damp circuit, the poor video quality all added to the charm of Top Gear. It really made the show feel creative because of that restriction and gave a sense of mediocrity that reinforced the idea that they were just three friends mucking about with cars.

These three men were my form of childhood therapy. Coping with bullying in high school....Top Gear. My grandad passed away... Top Gear. My son in the NICU... The Grand Tour.
Whenever I couldn't laugh, they were there. Whether it was Jermey measuring snow with his face, Richard crashing various vehicles, or James being well James. They were always a constant, I cried when I watched this episode and now knowing the final ever appearance as a trio is coming later this year....well, that really kills me.
I know none of them will read this, but Jezza, Hamster, and Captain Slow....thank you.

I remember reading an interview with Clarkson before the revamped BBC Top Gear came out in 2002. This came out of nowhere, and at first, I thought Clarkson was doing a bit. It made me realize that if he was this affected by the audience format ending, he must have been damn near inconsolable after getting sacked from Top Gear. But as sad as it was to watch this announcement and Clarkson break down a bit, this is the sort of person I want making programs, the type who treats show like a son. Also it really put into perspective just how much those three boneheads have given the world and how no one can even begin to replace them. We all know that The Grand Tour is the real Top Gear.
