From the small amount of research, seems this also goes under the name of 'Coolbaby RS-60' to which they seem to make a few X in 1 type systems. It led me to a Reddit post where people have hacked other models but appears you'd have to have a chip flasher to do it.
I bought one of these. The battery life is about 45 minutes! On the plus side, it uses NES-on-a-chip which means that it is not an emulator, but you’re actually playing NES games on bare metal hardware.
i remember those ebay listings where a cheap electric scooter could cost 5 bucks and 299 for shipping... but i have no idea if this is still a thing. guess it was because shipping was calculated differently

if by "screen tearing" you mean that color business at the side of smb3, that's normal behavior for that game, don't remember why but most TVs of the day overscanned that part off anyway
Nah, there's screen tearing on it, watch the edges of the background blocks on SMB3. It's not vertically synced up. Best place to see it is at 5:42, pause the video and repeatedly press the full-stop/period key on your keyboard to watch the diagonal line going down the brick stairs of SMB1.
Tv's today still overscan by default, bugs the hell out of me, but that's why console games have you set a "safe zone" to make sure the gui is on screen

I maintain that they're a useful thing to keep in a hospital go bag. If you're ever stuck for a few days, you've got something to play and it's not the end of the world if it gets nicked!
at 4:25 this effect is in every nes version of the game, its how the game is able to smoothly progress forwards and backwards through the level. its the sprites literally being placed down right infront of your eyes.
4:21 that "screen tear" is just how SMB3 works. you'll see that on the OG console as well as long as your screen doesn't cut it off. there was a RUclips video somewhere about it but I can't seem to find it now. something about memory limitations making it so each new block that loads in on the right will briefly have the palette from the block on the left at the same height. then once that left block disappears, then the right block corrects it's palette. I think the video said this ultimately allowed the tiles to scroll both horizontally and vertically.
As a person who uses Aliexpress around 50 times a year, I do not get why some times I hear that they are not "safe"?? every single time the product gets lost on its way or the stuff is broken/lower quality then promised you can simply Dispute the order and money back 100% sure. You just need to NOT listen for sellers trying to screw you over in the process.
I think you misunderstood the picture with the cell phone case, I’m pretty sure they were using it to make the device more comfortable to hold but holding it that way.
Reviewed one of these a while ago and the buttons genuinely are brilliant, all of the other Powkiddy and Coolbaby cheapo handhelds could seriously benefit from this style of microswitched 'clickey' face buttons because even on the £50+ models there's very few that feel this good!

Kinda funny that it mentions “security check.” Recently got vaccinated for Covid and the vaccination area did not allow for use of cellphones(they didn’t want people taking pictures for privacy reasons). I pulled out my GBC to play some Tetris while I waited and a guard called my attention for using my “phone.” The look on his face when he realized it was a Gameboy cracked me up.

I kinda wish someone made a custom firmware for all these cheap handhelds that changed the interface and allowed for custom roms. They all appear to use the same "insert number here" games software, makes me wonder how much something like this can be edited or changed entirely.
If I'm not mistaken, the "500 games" software IS a custom ROM. They used to sell them as NES-compatible pirate carts back in the day, and in the early 2000s there were bootleg consoles that were basically this, but bigger and designed to plug into a TV. (There was actually a kiosk in the mall we went to when I was in high school that sold them, which I'm honestly surprised they got away with.)
I honestly wish they'd make this in a way that allows it to play other 8 Bit titles via Emulation for just a bit more money. This would be a pretty dope form factor for such a device.
Therer's actually a version with magsafe shape magnets on the back, allowing it to stick onto iphone 12 and up and whatever devices with an add on magsafe shaped magnet configuration
You should try to make a replica of the glow-in-the-dark Gameboy Pocket, using a 3D printer and a custom filament that uses Stuart Semple's LIT glow-in-the-dark pigment. Except instead of a regular Gameboy, you could base its internal hardware on the Gameboy Color (with a DMG-1 speaker) and grant it a transflective backlit screen.

@@TheToastedGoblin It's a great question that I personally cannot answer. There is no sd card slot, and i have not done a teardown on it. My guess would be...no? Save states would be a great thing to discover that this thing had.
On that bit about passing a security check... Devices like laptops, handheld PCs like the Win3, and mobile phones can be subject to searches. If you refuse to let security search the device it can be confiscated. A device like this may not be subject to such a search or may not be considered worth messing with by security.
Love the actual style/build of this one, I wonder if it's possible to hack it and put your own stuff onto it instead of just the usual NES Roms + romhacks.
That Glitch on the right side of the screen is just how mario 3 is, it's not tearing, that's usually covered up by CRT. It does that because of certain limitations of the NES and they had to do that in order to be able to scroll both vertically and horizontally.
Its actually not using emulation, its an actual famiclone, thats why the sound is weird, clone consoles like the retron have the same sound issues, the fact that its a famiclone also means that, in theory, you could wire a pin connector to the board and play cartridge games on it
I got an original DMG Gameboy from a thrift store about 2 years ago, for $10. It was listed as not working, but just had some corrosion on the contacts. I ended up desoldering the battery contacts and replacing them and now it works perfectly.
A few hardware mods I want to see you try with a Gameboy Color or a Gameboy Advance: - Replace the membrane button switches with mechanical switches of some kind (like on a mechanical keyboard, just smaller) - Replace the RAM chips with newer SRAM-based chips (I want to see if it makes it any faster) - Change the crystal oscillator for the screen so that it refreshes a lot faster (in the hopes that it would alleviate screen tearing in any games which exhibit it) - Figuring out how to combine a Gameboy Color with a Super GameBoy (I heard rumors of a few games having separate enhancements for both the GBC and the SGB, and I'd very much like to see what happens)
Have you heard of PICO-8? There are a lot of emulator guys trying to get the PICO-8 carts running on GB like handhelds, and I think you would be a fan of the philosophy that PICO-8 takes on.

Any chance we can see the insides in a future video? It looks like it would be a great device to mod and throw in a more proper ROM than that crappy one it comes with. I'm willing to bet its just a famiclone podded chip with podded ROM, but maaaybe there are programing/debugging pads that could be used to overwrite the ROM?
So can this be altered? Like adding, removing Roms? It's a beautiful device and a great price... But I'd love to maybe add my own Roms and make it as I'd like it.
It is a nice device, but doesn’t appear to have any ‘select’ button - so in some games, you can’t select the alternative game type. You can also only scroll forwards or backwards 8 games at a time, so getting to the game you want takes quite a few button presses.
the micro usb slot for charging.. when you plug it in to the pc can you access storage on there to swap games and maybe try other consoles to see if it can handle it?

@@icedlain Select is more than likely mapped to either the X or Y button. It's an NES clone device, so those buttons have no use otherwise.

Its actually not using emulation, its an actual famiclone, thats why the sound is weird, clone consoles like the retron have the same sound issues, the fact that its a famiclone also means that, in theory, you could wire a pin connector to the board and play cartridge games on it

I got an original DMG Gameboy from a thrift store about 2 years ago, for $10. It was listed as not working, but just had some corrosion on the contacts. I ended up desoldering the battery contacts and replacing them and now it works perfectly.

The only credit-card-sized console I know of is the Arduboy, but it'll cost you a lot more than £15 :)
A few hardware mods I want to see you try with a Gameboy Color or a Gameboy Advance:
- Replace the membrane button switches with mechanical switches of some kind (like on a mechanical keyboard, just smaller)
- Replace the RAM chips with newer SRAM-based chips (I want to see if it makes it any faster)
- Change the crystal oscillator for the screen so that it refreshes a lot faster (in the hopes that it would alleviate screen tearing in any games which exhibit it)
- Figuring out how to combine a Gameboy Color with a Super GameBoy (I heard rumors of a few games having separate enhancements for both the GBC and the SGB, and I'd very much like to see what happens)
It reached me so much about one of my favorite handhelds
Have you heard of PICO-8? There are a lot of emulator guys trying to get the PICO-8 carts running on GB like handhelds, and I think you would be a fan of the philosophy that PICO-8 takes on.

I love the unboxing and very odd gameboy showoffs you have. Im a retro console lover myself as i started collected only recently becuase i ended up still having old sega and nintendo consoles from my childhood. Now im collecting now gameboys nintendo favourites that i didnt own as a child and expanding my love for the console family. il be keeping an eye on your fute videos. keep it up :D Breathing new life in these old classics is a true blessing :D

@@Chris-kx5lp for other consoles exits several versions of hakchi, which uses the usb ports (for recharge) of the consoles to upload roms
It is a nice device, but doesn’t appear to have any ‘select’ button - so in some games, you can’t select the alternative game type. You can also only scroll forwards or backwards 8 games at a time, so getting to the game you want takes quite a few button presses.
