The og ps1 controller is literally an SNES controller with handles and extra triggers, I would most definitely say they stole Nintendos controller design. I remember MP3 sticks in the early 2000s (which ran on one single AAA battery) having neat extra features like FM radio and Text file reader. It seems this thing here feels like a spiritual successor to those thingies. Mobile audio player with extra emulators :P

I know it's not how it's intended as it's supposed to be portable, but think the 500mah battery can't deliver the proper current and plugging it in while playing will yield different results? Kinda like the switch is turned down while unplugged but performance gets better when plugged in. I know it's not beneficial on the go, but seeing as you have a controller can maybe plug it in and use the controller.
you can absolutely just drop a larger LiPo cell in, LiPo charging circuits monitor battery voltage, not capacitance (atleast a cheap charging circuit which you would find embedded in electronics) so they just threw the smaller battery in to save the dollar per unit. I also find it interesting that there is a spot for a flash memory chip but they decided not to populate it, i wonder if this board was stolen from another product or if the designer had the flash memory chip in mind, but they decided last minute that it was too expensive.
I'm usually apprehensive about spending money, even if it's a small amount... But it's your videos that just make me want to expand my collection! Even if I have a few pieces of crap in there too! Lotta love for the channel, man!
the anologue stick could be tiny on the bottom left hand corner... it needs adhoc... an alarm clock app... a calculator... a text editor (no touch screen), a music shuffle play button for people whom dont want to wear glasses and a regular sd card input as a means for people to trade/sell games...

Honestly, if it worked properly, I would absolutely buy one. For the time being, I’m just hoping that the Game & Watch that’s coming out in November can be modified. Such a thin emulator would be a nice novelty.

the menus and screen shape are kind of reminiscent of my old Creative ZEN mp3 player. it didn't have games on it but it felt so futuristic back in the mid aughts with custom backgrounds and animations and stuff on there. actually I remember that thing being the first time I remarked on pixel density, though if I looked at it now I'm sure it'd be nothing special that way. But yeah I'd load my (legal) Napster songs on there, as well as a few youtube poops me and my friends quoted a lot and we'd watch those in class on there. sometimes I get really nostalgic for that sort of thing. I know that in 2020 I have absolutely no use whatsoever for a dedicated music device when I can stream spotify from my phone, pc, robot, whatever and it remembers where I left off and plays wirelessly but... there was just something special about those old ZENs. Most people at school had iPods but I never really found them to be as good
If they fixed the lag issue and gave it a better battery, while keeping the price, I wouldn't mind buying it for my younger brothers. They wouldn't care about the sound much, and would probably enjoy the roms and music space.
Speaking of a good toolkit- is there any tool I can use for a stripped screw? Trying to open up a PS1 controller but one of the screws is stripped. Tried a few DIY things like using a hammer to make a new dent or using rubber bands for more grip, and I even bought some screw grip goo that didn’t work. My next ideas are glueing the screwdriver to the screw, or using a drill to just destroy the screw and the post... You always make great content and seem to know what you’re doing so I thought I’d ask 😅
I can’t wait for the 2nd version. With a few firmware updates I think the lagging will be fixed. Also, you might be playing the PAL version of the roms. That might be why the speed is slower.
Two things, unoptimized software, underpowered chipset, or both. Maybe custom firmwares may emerge that makes all around improvements ,kind of like on the Soulja Anbernic system. lol

Ah, interesting you review this, i just noticed it on aliexpress the other day and was intrigued by the nice form factor and the cheap price. In the end after looking around i saw comments it was underpowered and steered towards another cool looking cheap machine the FC3000.

You should try to mod and see if putting in a more powerful battery would make the emulation run at normal speed.
