Most property buyers not legal residents & Dominican govt wants change

  • U.S. citizens have been displaced as the biggest group of real estate buyers in the Dominican Republic. Also, most buyers do not have legal residency in the country and the Dominican government wants that to change.

    Brother, you always bring it and I thank you. My question is, why is this a issue if the Government does not require people to be Legal Residents in order to buy property?

      That's a great question! I think the government sees an opportunity to make some money. Also, they may want to limit foreign buyers and give Dominicans an advantage. We'll see.

      @@profeagayu The Government offers all types of Investments Options for Foreigners to become Residents, including in property; so that could be sending mix messaging.

      @@chillintheDR True, but the motivation could be when they saw that most foreign buyers are not legal residents and most foreign buyers are Haitians, it may have triggered some people in government to want to change that. We'll see. It's likely nothing will come out of this in the near future, but who knows.

      @@profeagayu That would lead me to ask this question about Haitians. If they are not Legal Residents, why would they buy property and chance being deported?
