    I love how the tap shoes complement the original joke about quiet shoes.

      "I'm just looking for my mocassins." I didn't get that until I had seen this like thirty times. This is the best sketch in sketch show history.

      He bought him taps so he could hear him when he inevitably came to kill him. What a great show

      No wonder daddy left so early for work! But what was mama's excuse being a lush?

      You know what? I never saw the 'full circle' of the joke until you pointed that out! TY :) I got about 90% of that 'circle' but you helped me realize the other 10% that actually, makes this skit even more freakinly brilliant! ;) Nice! P.S. I had these skits memorized in jr. high,(when I saw them as reruns for the first time). I love the obscure, yet completely relatable skits-like "Cocaine" skit? OMG! Scott T. doing the coke then Mark Mc. just killing it by remaining quiet-so, smart! Super smart comedy, I'm so, glad I got to grow up in my pre-teen/teen years. My age group equivalent of "Monty Pythons" to our parents generation. ;)

      I never caught that. Gotta give daddy some shoes that make some noise, hopefully enough to wake him up.

    Kids In The Hall was awesome, and Dave Foley is one of the funniest people in Human History.

    It's 2023 and these skits have aged very well! In fact, I believe they are "better" today then when they first came out.

    I shouldn’t be up late watching old sketches on RUclips like this. I’ve got a long day of drinking for the government ahead of me tomorrow! I better go calm my nerves with a scotch, say goodnight to my son, and hit the hay.

    It gives these sketches a bit of a different context after learning that 'in real life' both Dave Foley and Kevin McDonald both grew up with severely alcoholic fathers...

      Tru dat I was a kid in the 90s and my dad & I loved this show. And he was heavily involved in divorce counseling...and I remember him telling me stuff when these sketches would come on...he was ACA...(adult child of alcoholic) and there's lots of alcoholism in divorce groups. SO he laughed but he always tried to tell me...this isn't really funny to joke about. Well God bless my pops.

    • @Ceares
      @Ceares 5 лет назад +15

      It's the opposite of sad when people become more aware of problematic issues and decide that things that once got a pass or worse, were considered completely fine, don't fly anymore. As for if this skit would fly, it honestly would depend on the channel. It would more likely generate discussion rather than just being outright condemned in part because of who is doing it and the way it's done. Comedy is comedy and that's fine but comedy, just like everything else, doesn't exist in a vacuum.

      @@cainster Not sure where you live but certainly not in Canada, and probably not in the US either. Not without it being a huge controversy and a mob coming for the actors/writers/show. People dismiss context here if they see an opportunity to appear morally outraged.
