I played this hymn over and over with my head phones on as I walked out into the night on a pier at corona del Mar beach In California . Out here all by myself. Little scary , but knowing God is always with me no matter where I go and that I'm never alone is soo comforting. The sea is soo huge and deep and can be frightening what it is capable of. And then I imagined if a light should appear on the water and it was a man and he bade me come to him and I walked on top of the ocean, what that would be like. So many roads and so many unknown things in life, to be able to cry to Jesus to prompt you and lead you with thoughts on where to go and what to do and say for the best results of this time on earth. We sang this hymn many times as a family all sitting around in the front room of our mobile home. All six of us harmonizing and putting our whole little hearts into it. I don't know if families do that anymore. I wish they did. It's soo good to have those early memories to carry with me throughout my life and the spirit of Jesus christ to comfort me when I feel lost and confused and alone.

I may not agree with the Mormons teaching but I respect their choir presentation for they are so solemn and orderly, no individual expression but all together in harmony.
I might suggest that individual expression is why a choir is important. Not to stifle it, but to bring it out. I have been in a number of choirs, and in each case, I had more fun than when I sung by myself.
Do not despair as long as Christ is with us, we have everything. He gives us peace and love, comfort and joy Jesus Christ love you ❤️❤️❤️Do not be afraid, but be sure that Christ is the true God, who loves us and gave Himself for us to live eternal life, He is our Savior. This song reminds me of my late girlfriend. As we took her to her place of rest, I did a speech and this song played at the background. Love this song soo much. God is alive! AMEN!
For all the people I have known good or bad I'm glad in someway that I did because it has made me the person I am now good and understanding and god loving I hope they all find him to and have great peace aways

Listening to the melody and phrasing, I notice a similarity to "Rock of Ages." The phrasing and accompaniment are so similar to "Rock of Ages" that I can sing either hymn and not have to change much at all. Hopper wrote this much later, but I'll bet he got a lot of inspiration from the Toplady song.
I had no idea this was a song, I saw a poster at a truck stop long ago and have done my own version of it at my church on acoustic guitar ever since...I thought I made it up!!..well, I did, I guess, but a different song with the same title...in fact, I prefer my version as it is less dramatic and far less forboding...but this is a beautiful choir...god bless everyone!!!
this is the geographer/mariner's hymn and the Mariners are one of my favorite baseball teams, them and the Orioles. There's no hymn for Orioles, unless it's All Creatures of Our God and King :)
