And the infinity symbol is an 8 turned sideways so it could be either way or hell knowing Corey it could be implemented in more than one way and have several meanings. Seeing how he is #8 its very likely. Maybe it means he is #8 infinitely to him so who knows man.
Man... 16 years later after its release, and it still gives me goosebumps. My interpretation of the video ending: His old self has died, and his new self has taken over, but he retains part of who he was then with who he is now. As for the Spiderman ring, this song was on the first Spiderman movie soundtrack, so that was the promotional tie in to both their debut album and the movie showcasing this song.
I saw Stone sour in Prague shortly after Paul Gray death,. A very emotional performance that he dedicated to his friend that had brought tears to the eyes of grown men. 85000 people
you also gotta remember spider-man is huge in cory,s life as hes a mega fan of spidey .plus hes a comic book geek loves horror and he spends 1000.s $$$ on action figures . hes a kid at heart . and thats why we love the guy .
You should listen to Apocalyptica ft. Corey Taylor - I'm Not Jesus or Sound City Soundtrack ft. Corey Taylor - From Can to Can't. Just do yourself a favor and listen to everything Corey Taylor is in lol.
From can to can’t is spectacular. I somehow went years without hearing it, and stumbled upon it only maybe 6 months ago...one of the best collaborations I’ve ever heard.
Its an absolute beautiful song i always love peoples reactions when i play it for them and they dont know its corey at first hes got such an incredible range to his voice so talented but the lyrics from this song are painful to listen to but they paint a real picture of depression
I got to see this performed live recently when I caught a show in Mansfield with Stone Sour and Ozzy on his No More Tours tour. This song was amazing, Corey came out and sat center stage with a guitar, no other band members, no other instruments. Just him and a guitar. It was just as haunting hearing it live as it is to hear on a studio recording.
Can’t believe there’s 18 dislikes for this,Corey has one of the best voices out there at this moment, super talented guy, bands are queuing up for him to guest vocals on their albums, songs about losing yourself and finding yourself all in one breath.
Lyrics: Wish I was too dead to cry My self-affliction fades Stones to throw at my creator Masochists to which I cater You don't need to bother, I don't need to be I'll keep slipping farther But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds Wish I was too dead to care If indeed I cared at all Never had a voice to protest So you fed me shit to digest I wish I had a reason, my flaws are open season For this, I gave up trying One good turn deserves my dying You don't need to bother, I don't need to be I'll keep slipping farther But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds Wish I'd died instead of lived A zombie hides my face Shell forgotten with its memories Diaries left with cryptic entries And you don't need to bother, I don't need to be I'll keep slipping farther But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds You don't need to bother, I don't need to be I'll keep on slipping farther But once I hold on I'll never live down my deceit -------------- This song is about being in some major depression. "wish I was to dead to cry" he or she wishes that he or she wouldn’t feel any sort of emotion. "my self affliction fades" sounds like he or she is cutting themself or something related to that. any type of self harm maybe? and it going away? "stones to throw at my creator" blaming god, or his or her parents or the depression. "masochists to which I cater" masochist means the deriving of sexual gradification or the tendency to derive sexual gradification from being physically or emotionally abused, so maybe being abused makes him or her feel better? "you don’t need to bother, I don’t need to be" tellin people not to bother to try and help and that he or she doesn’t need to be here. "I'll keep slipping farther, but once I hold on I wont let go till it bleeds" he or she will keep slipping towards the edge, but if theres any hope to hold onto he or she will hold onto hope. "wish I was to dead to care, if indeed I cared at all" wish he or she didn’t have to act like they cared about certain things, they never cared at all. "never had a voice to protest, so you fed me shit to digest" he or she never stood up for themselves and took it and took it. "I wish i had a reason, my flaws are open season" his or her flaws are easy to see so they never had a reason to not be depressed. "for this I gave up trying, one good turn deserves my dying“ he or she gave up trying to feel better, and if one other thing goes wrong he or she might as well be dead "wish I died instead of lived, the zombie hides my face" he or she pretends to be someone theyre not and wishes they couldve just died. "shell forgotten with its memories, diaries left with cryptic entries" maybe he or she killed themself and they were just forgotten, the only memory of them was his or her diary full of depressing entries. "once I hold on i'll never live down my deceit" maybe they didn’t kill themselves, maybe they are alive and well, but haven’t forgotten the crap they put up with. thats my opinion. anything i missed?
Nope! You win! Spot on & thank you for a bit of lyrical clarity for me, I always thought it was 'fed me to Duchess', which never made sense! 😮 I truly LOVE your breakdown lyric by lyric on this! I would only add that this year, in therapy, Cory discovered/recalled that he had been sexually abused as a child, so this song really does fit the bill on all of the above! Thank you again for this breakdown & interpretation of this iconic song! Peace! ✌☮😊🎶🔥💨
This song was written by him around one of the three times that he tried to commit suicide in his life. And the thing at the ending, to me, is when he "found himself" after "losing himself." He saw that he was split in half and wasn't sure what he was doing or going and was very depressed and contemplating suicide, and actually attempted it, and when he was saved by a friend and moving back home to Iowa and everything, he found himself. And him finding himself in that way allowed him to kill his past and move on, which is why I think the video was two of him looking at each other because he was trying to find himself, and when he did, the one half died and whithered away.
This song has helped SO MANY people with so many things. Thank you Corey. Thank you Stone Sour, and thank you Slipknot for helping me rage after I'm done crying. 💜
This was the first Stone Sour song released. It was on the Spider-Man 3 soundtrack (which explains the Spiderman ring, also Corey LOVES Spiderman) if I'm not mistaken. Then it was put on their first album and shipped as a single.
Correct. The first Spiderman. Also it was originally shipped out as Corey Taylors. It wasnt until it gained success on alternative radio charts that it was added to Stone Sours debut album.
technically it was the first Stone Sour song released on a major label, most of the songs from this album had been released in a finished form on a demo before Corey was invited to join Slipknot, and were released on the album basically unchanged for the most part
I remember when this song came out it was just after my mental health took its first turn and I just played this over and over again cuz it was the only thing that made sense. I was 11 or 12, it helped a lot. I used to breakdown when I heard it but now it just reminds me of how far Ive come.
Agreed. You want to hear a more matured voice with very clean vocals and a little more range. Audio secrecy was my favorite album from any thing Corey has done no matter the band
It is a Spiderman ring (he's also wearing his #8 ring for slipknot) but he wore that because this song is on the 1st Spiderman (with Tobey Maguire) soundtrack.
You need to react to a heavier stone sour song. They are not all softer songs. I might be in the minority but I much prefer Stone Sour to Slipknot. Try Come What(ever) May, Absolute Zero or 30/30-150
Lost himself, then discovered himself. You said it at the beginning, and the ring was the symbolism for that, slipping the ring worn by the embodiment of his negative side underneath the ring he wore throughout the whole video. Corey has said in the past he's tried to kill himself, but he's in a good place now, thank goodness!
Bother, and another song you should react to for SURE, Sillyworld, are my two favorite Stone Sour songs. Bother was written during a dark, suicidal period in Corey Taylor’s life following Slipknots break in 2002. It was on the Spider-Man soundtrack, Corey being a massive Spiderman fan, and I believe him putting on the ring at the end of the video and it overlapping onto his own reflects the idea of the song about losing yourself and finding yourself simultaneously. He lost the ring when he died, and puts it on afterward, but is still alive and the true him is still wearing it. A bit hard to explain but that’s my interpretation. Oh and ummm...more In Flames and Dream Theater please
i discovered stonesobur when bother randomly came across a playlist. eversince that day i love corey even more! slipknot for it's insanity, stonesour for it's pure form of music. Thanks alex for reacting to this song, your reaction was the same as everyone i present this song to. Keep it up man, big love from Belgium!
I know he'd like that Soilwork song, but there's so many better ones than that. If I was choosing a song from that album I'd go with Distance. If I was choosing from all their songs I'd go with Whispers and Lights, Tongue, Father and Son Watching the World go Down, Black Star Deceiver, or Chainheart Machine(first song I heard that immediately got my attention).
I love this song! I got to see Stone Sour in concert when they came up here to Alaska and played at the state fair 2 months ago! I wasn't disappointed. Corey and the band were spot on live. I got chills seeing and hearing them in person. Especially during Through Glass and Bother. The whole crowd (including myself) was singing along and it was an awesome experience. I really wanna see Slipknot live! More good songs to check out by Stone Sour would be Absolute Zero, Do Me A Favor, Song #3, Knievel Has Landed, Gone Sovereign, and The Bitter End.
Just became a subscriber, and I totally love your stuff. I'm a huge metal fan, and I love your fresh take and insight on the songs. Your researching brings to light a lot of history to the music and shows people these bands aren't just screamers. I know you've done mostly popular secular artists. I'd love to see your take on something like Christian metal and how they compare. Some great songs to check out would be: 1. "Marianas Trench" by August Burns Red 2. "Temptation Come My Way" by The Showdown 3. "Writing on the Walls" by Underoath 4. "Spyhunter" by Project 86 Can't wait to watch more content!
Lol I was halfway through an American Dad episode when this popped up. "I'll watch it after this episode" 1 minute later "I'll watch it now" Hey Alex, since you're such a fan of the emotions in Corey's voice (and incredibly beautiful lyrics), please check out one of the few Slipknot ballads "Snuff". Particularly this live acoustic version with Corey and his guitar: ruclips.net/video/QBK6xymmKHM/видео.html Also, for the same reason (and amazing duet with the crowd), you should revisit Bother sometime with this live version: ruclips.net/video/zH_eZIsQ6vE/видео.html
I remember listening to this live. The band got being the stage and it was just Corey and his guitar. The whole crowd sang along. It was an amazing moment!
I can relate to this song so much the lyrics are so painful i suffer from depression and anxiety and i play this song everytime i feel sad. I love corey taylor he's amazing. Loved your reaction alex hope you are having a dope ass day/ night keep pumping out these amazing videos. It always brightens up my day you are the best reaction channel on youtube in my opinion
Hey Alex, epic video! As for the song, "Bother" was originally created for one of the Spiderman movies (I think it was the first one) and its story is about self-realization and accepting the consequences of your actions, as well as the damages they cause. If you'll remember, Uncle Ben told Peter that "with great power comes great responsibility". This song was meant to help try to interpret, imho, the juxtaposition of how Peter's dual nature threatened to not only hurt him, but he had to learn that his actions would deeply and more strongly affect those around him. Think about it: with every increase of power comes a greater responsibility with it. Hence, when Peter was bitten and found the gifts of the spider's bite, he realized his actions would almost certainly hurt those he loved - and not to mention the innocents that weren't even directly involved. This is carried out in the further movies, but the comic book shows a massive version of this: in the scene in the second movie, I think it was, that was when Peter had to catch MJ and the train full of people while falling, originally he was able to do it. In the comic book, however, he pulled it off - but MJ had already reached terminal velocity, so when his web caught her to draw her back to him, it snapped either her neck or her back (I forget which). In that moment, you see the depth of damage that Peter's dual nature costs him, and then there's not even considering the many millions in the city he lives in at that point in the story. Corey Taylor's song was written to encompass this dual nature and present the emotions and thoughts of someone who's been put into that position, with each verse/stanza giving a changing perspective, as one with that responsibility might think or feel, as he gets older. Hence why when he gets to the last line "Once I hold on/I'll never live down my deceit." you see the older man fall to his knees and die, while Corey retrieves the ring, symbolizing the death of a part of yourself, and knowing what your future suddenly looks like, and the inevitable change of views about your past. So, yeah, can you tell I'm an English major? *eye roll* LOL
Corey wrote this song a REALLY long time ago, like prior to joining Slipknot in 97, and at the time it was a sad song about a break-up he'd just gone through. He'd tried to find fortune in Denver. Broke his arm, lost a girlfriend and failed to find his place in the Denver music scene. He wrote the lyrics on the dashboard of his friends car while he was being driven back home all the way to Des Moines Iowa. Over the years the song's meaning kinda metamorphosed. Corey grew up without a father and without knowing why and that bred a lot of paternal resentment as well, so there's a bit of that in the song as well. It was part of the original Spider-man(2002) soundtrack, hence the emphasis on his ring. Corey was and is a MASSIVE Comic-book/action figure fan and Spider-man's a big hero of his.
Suggestions: Soliloquium - chains Soliloquium - contemplations (full album) Death - crystal mountain Death - perennial quest Death - lack of comprehension Death - the philosopher Death - flesh and the power it holds Death - Symbolic (full album) You really should react to Death, these are the ones I’d start with.
I don't usually leave more then one comment on a video but I got so excited about Stone Sour that I almost forgot about Avatar 🖤 for a moment... I know I sound like a teenage fangirl but.... PLEASE revisit Avatar 🙏!!!!
I do agree that he needs to give them another shot. Bloody angel is a fantastic song and video, but it's just the tip of the iceberg with those Swedes... Just saw those guys for the second time a few days ago. They f**kin' slay live.
Love this song! It's great to see it live when often it's just him playing an acoustic guitar for this and the whole audience sings along. Awesome live energy for a ballad. Pissed that I should have seen them twice in the past few months and both shows wound up being cancelled. At least Slipknot's got new material coming out next year with a tour in the works. Oh and I agree with others' comments that your next Stone Sour should be 30/30-150. And my obligatory "Please react to Byzantine's 'New Ways to Bear Witness'!"
Me: This song is so beautiful
Alex: *SPIDERMAN RING!*
Wasn't it the soundtrack for Spiderman? Thats why he's wearing the ring. I could be wrong but something in the back of my mind thinks so...
you are correct!
yeh also his number 8 ring from slipknot :)
@Derek Charette why do you have to insult someone though? Can't you just give an explanation without being disrespectful?
And the infinity symbol is an 8 turned sideways so it could be either way or hell knowing Corey it could be implemented in more than one way and have several meanings.
Seeing how he is #8 its very likely. Maybe it means he is #8 infinitely to him so who knows man.
Man... 16 years later after its release, and it still gives me goosebumps. Logan Jesus, it’s been 16 years?
I’m as old as this song 😳
@@FadeToBlackOps Well..... that just made my knee go out.
Also about the balance of Stone Sour and Slipknot, you're absolutely correct. He has said several times that he couldn't have one without the other.
"The zombie hides my face" sounds like he's referring to his slipknot mask 😉
Nice take there. Never even thought of that
That’s how I always took it
that's what I thought, especially vol. 3 corey taylor mask
that is what I thought as well for a while! {2024}

I'm not jesus, man that's a blast from the past. I haven't listened to that in years
He should also listen to "Rainbow in the Dark" by Dio and then Corey Taylor's cover.
Absolutely agree on both/all!!
Absolutely agree about I'm not Jesus!
From can to can’t is spectacular. I somehow went years without hearing it, and stumbled upon it only maybe 6 months ago...one of the best collaborations I’ve ever heard.
Favorite Stone Sour song right here, and I’ve actually met Corey Taylor, he is really the nicest person ever.
I'm jealous...this is the best stone sour song though this is the first stone sour song I had ever heard when I first heard them
Jealous! I would love to meet him one day!
He seems like someone who’s very real and down to earth. Something very rare with famous musicians nowadays
met him twice. dude is really cool. got his autograph for my comic book when he did a signing at sdcc in 2014

Lyrics:
Wish I was too dead to cry
My self-affliction fades
Stones to throw at my creator
Masochists to which I cater
You don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds
Wish I was too dead to care
If indeed I cared at all
Never had a voice to protest
So you fed me shit to digest
I wish I had a reason, my flaws are open season
For this, I gave up trying
One good turn deserves my dying
You don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds
Wish I'd died instead of lived
A zombie hides my face
Shell forgotten with its memories
Diaries left with cryptic entries
And you don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep slipping farther
But once I hold on, I won't let go til it bleeds
You don't need to bother, I don't need to be
I'll keep on slipping farther
But once I hold on
I'll never live down my deceit
--------------
This song is about being in some major depression.
"wish I was to dead to cry"
he or she wishes that he or she wouldn’t feel any sort of emotion.
"my self affliction fades"
sounds like he or she is cutting themself or something related to that. any type of self harm maybe? and it going away?
"stones to throw at my creator"
blaming god, or his or her parents or the depression.
"masochists to which I cater"
masochist means the deriving of sexual gradification or the tendency to derive sexual gradification from being physically or emotionally abused, so maybe being abused makes him or her feel better?
"you don’t need to bother, I don’t need to be"
tellin people not to bother to try and help and that he or she doesn’t need to be here.
"I'll keep slipping farther, but once I hold on I wont let go till it bleeds"
he or she will keep slipping towards the edge, but if theres any hope to hold onto he or she will hold onto hope.
"wish I was to dead to care, if indeed I cared at all"
wish he or she didn’t have to act like they cared about certain things, they never cared at all.
"never had a voice to protest, so you fed me shit to digest"
he or she never stood up for themselves and took it and took it.
"I wish i had a reason, my flaws are open season"
his or her flaws are easy to see so they never had a reason to not be depressed.
"for this I gave up trying, one good turn deserves my dying“
he or she gave up trying to feel better, and if one other thing goes wrong he or she might as well be dead
"wish I died instead of lived, the zombie hides my face"
he or she pretends to be someone theyre not and wishes they couldve just died.
"shell forgotten with its memories, diaries left with cryptic entries"
maybe he or she killed themself and they were just forgotten, the only memory of them was his or her diary full of depressing entries.
"once I hold on i'll never live down my deceit"
maybe they didn’t kill themselves, maybe they are alive and well, but haven’t forgotten the crap they put up with.
thats my opinion. anything i missed?

I really wanna see Slipknot live! More good songs to check out by Stone Sour would be Absolute Zero, Do Me A Favor, Song #3, Knievel Has Landed, Gone Sovereign, and The Bitter End.
You really need to do Soilwork!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As We Speak
Every time I listen to this song it hits me right in the feels

Favorite SS song. That GUITAR DUDE AND THE LYRICS. THE ENTIRE VIBE. Just- UGH. 🖤
After a while old Corey started to look like Whistler from blade.
Some great songs to check out would be:
1. "Marianas Trench" by August Burns Red
2. "Temptation Come My Way" by The Showdown
3. "Writing on the Walls" by Underoath
4. "Spyhunter" by Project 86
Can't wait to watch more content!
Lol I was halfway through an American Dad episode when this popped up.

Hey Alex, since you're such a fan of the emotions in Corey's voice (and incredibly beautiful lyrics), please check out one of the few Slipknot ballads "Snuff". Particularly this live acoustic version with Corey and his guitar: ruclips.net/video/QBK6xymmKHM/видео.html
Also, for the same reason (and amazing duet with the crowd), you should revisit Bother sometime with this live version: ruclips.net/video/zH_eZIsQ6vE/видео.html

I had the awesome benefit of listening to Stone Sour live when I saw Ozzy in concert! They were amazing as usual!
ALLEGAEON: ANY SONG (I'd prefer Proponent for sentience III the Extermination)
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: ANY SONG (I'd prefer Nightbringers)
Love this song, can’t believe I haven’t seen this reaction!
Cool vid, check out farewell mona lisa by the dillinger escape plan
Thank you very much for that! This video needed it!

I see them in 3 days time!! So pumped

Awesome vid - saw them play this live after it came out and it was awesome!
I told my friends I have a date with an attractive girl. They told me she was imaginary. Jokes on them because they are too.
Best comment.
I feel attacked..
