I’m hitting ice chunks left and right with my Eibach setup and even though I cringe every time the Alltrack belly pan has held its own in real world testing. One thing to note. Just did this on my mk7.5 R and ran into an issue with the fitment of the passenger-side bracket. Aligning the “little tab” on the top of the bracket made it impossible to get the 2 lower bracket holes to align correctly with the belly pan. It’s almost as if the hole for the tab in the chassis should have been drilled slightly lower. Ultimately, had to bend the tab out of the way and mount the bracket with just the bolt alone.
So, you will need to take it off when you want to do a full oil change (like also replacing the oil plug which is a cheap addition to the oil change kits)? Will you need to also get an oil extractor too if the case? Also "Plastic" to describe what the oil pan is made of makes it sound chintzy, when really it's a very durable composite. I don't know of anyone who has had issues with it.
Is there more than one version of the belly pan? I have a '17 GTI S and got the belly pan that I installed on my car from a local guy who said that he bought all of the underside protection parts for some Mk7 model not available in the US from a European source. The pan that I have doesn't flex like the one in your video. A couple weeks ago I hit something (hidden under snow) about half the width of the road on the left side and maybe an inch or so taller than the underside of the car. That broke a bunch of the plastic bits behind the left-side bumper cover including the core support and cracked the intercooler. The left side of the belly pan(including the vertical support) moved back an inch or two, which ripped all of the metal eyelets out of the rear of the belly pan. I am looking for a replacement belly pan and after watching your video I am concerned it might not be the same as what I am replacing.
BTW, I am a stage rally official who uses my GTI in my duties, including course checks. Earlier this year, on a fresh (not-yet compacted) gravel road, my car managed to bring in enough rocks through the cooling hole on the belly pan that the inside bottom of the pan filled with rocks. The rocks filled the gap between the belly pan and the oil pan. Then I went over a bump that pressed up on the belly pan and --crack-- went the plastic oil pan. I now have a steel one on my car. But I managed to drive on gravel stage rally toads for 5 years before that happened.

Drives me crazy when owners remove the belly pans or cut holes in them to change the oil. To me it's just plain laziness. When doing an oil change it's a good time to get in there and check everything. So don't be lazy pull the belly pan and inspect.

Charles, how often have you seen cracked composite oil pans in the shop?
Very few. I’ve seen a couple but Not much difference in the metal pan
Do you think an a3 undertray would be an easier option?
Just busted my oil pan...$1000 bucks later at the dealer this is my next investment.
Plastic oil pan. VAG ftw! Next generation will have plastic rods i guess
LOL
This wouldn't happen to also work for the mk6.5 Jetta GLIs (facelifted gen3) would it?
Awesome, plastic sump. How could that ever be a problem
Holy shit... I think there are some Jeep guys that will want that
Hi! would you recommend the Alltrack skid plate, or an aluminum one (the one sale on ECS Tunning) for the Golf R?
I wonder if there is a skip plate interchange for the Passat w8 from another vw? Great video by the way.
Id imagine the W8 would have the best skid plate if there's a difference among the B5/B5.5
PG Performance makes a HD aluminum one and Skid-Plates.com have a steel one for the B5/B5.5 chasis.
Another great video. A minor niggle though; can you use the words Right and Left instead of Driver's and Passenger?
Question, what MK will that cover for some of my friends information? I liked this video.
Great video! Now more miata, please. ;-)
Soon. Once this run of R videos is done we do the Miata.
What bean counter thought a plastic oil pan would be okay? 🤣
How about oil change with the new cover?
I prefer to extract the oil from the top. Adding the cover does make oil changes a little more annoying lol
Just installed this today. What's the part number for the hex head bolts that you used on the brackets in the front instead of the torx style that come with the kit? I could not get the torx style tightened up properly. Will be swapping them out with hex heads the next time I drop the cover to change the oil. It's comforting to know my fragile plastic oil pan is protected now. Thanks for the video. Thanks for all your videos.
I don’t think I have PN. I ended up using something I had floating around. Take the ones that came with the kit abs match them up at the hardware store. That’s what I’d do
@@HumbleMechanic thank you sir! that's usually my method too.
Hi Charles. I am curious if you going to recalibrate your ACC since you removed the ACC radar. VW "recommends it" :-)
I’m not. Yep it’s recommended. But I’ve had that off a bunch and no issues. Now if I was a shop, I’d make my customer do it. I’m not going to be liable for it not working
Can I have your old belly pan? I totally didn't run over mine when I was changing the transmission oil.
Can I have your old belly button lint?
@@DigitalDissident you have have my new belly button lint What color u lookin for?
I just bought a new 2020 mk7.5 GTI, I REALLY don't want to drop the pan on a brand new car and add a steel pan that might leak, but I am lowering it. Think I could get away with just this or an aluminum skid plate?
Dude just buy an ECS Street Shield and you are paying less for a thick METAL skid plate.
It doesn’t fit DSG cars. And I like that this is OEM ;)
DQ381 fitment coming soon 👍
@@HumbleMechanic step 1 - ditch the dsg to get a proper manual
Step 2- get the street shield 😁
Is there a version available for the MK6 Golf?
Hi sir i am rebuilding a valve body for my 2008 jetta 2.5 transmission code 09G. How do I determine the location for the new solenoids the numbers do not match up i am using a remanufactured kit please help thank you. Vw life forever
wierd, i thought the golf had the same belly pan as the a3. The A3(at least the 2015 "quattro") has a flimsy belly pan that goes all the way back to the rear 3 bolts, so it covers the oil pan.
In future plastic drivetrain and steel protectors
is it odd that I had contacted a dealer for an install and was left with this comment "Technician does not believe it will fit with hardware as Alltrack has 8 bolts". Is there that big of a difference to Canadian VW parts vs the version DAP would be selling?
It should be the same. Is it built I. Mexico? Should have a VIN with 3vw
@@HumbleMechanic VIN says 3vw and he did quote an odd part I don't see in most kits WHT 000 729 A.
hey humblemech, enjoy watching your videos even though i don't do any work to my car myself(but plan to in future), but was wondering if you could do a video on how to dismantle the headlight housings of the 7.5 LED headlight sets so people could put in their own things I.E. wrapping the red strip for the GTI or putting rgb lights in such as demoneyes (fully aware its illegal in many places but would obviously be only for show). not gonna be that guy that assumes you have money and time to throw around so if its a no completely understandable and keep up the good work
Good, Upgrade if you live in an area full of potholes and debris on the roadways..Thank You @humblemechanic
Exactly. I hate they left most of the pan exposed.
@@HumbleMechanic specially with a plastic oil pan!! I think the germans forgot that American Roads aren't to German Standards
Awesome video, mister Beard.
But why would someone put a plastic oil pan on a car? Are there any pros about that?
Cheers and have a nice day, mate.
Drives me crazy when owners remove the belly pans or cut holes in them to change the oil. To me it's just plain laziness. When doing an oil change it's a good time to get in there and check everything. So don't be lazy pull the belly pan and inspect.
Does the VW Polo 1.8T from 2008 have a reliable engine?
The Alltrack belly pan looks very similar to the one on our '15 Golf TDI, maybe more composite in the pan itself making it a bit stiffer.
The TDI one looks similar but is very different. The TDI one mostly is for sound and Aero and wouldn't hold up to abuse.
Deutsche Auto Parts is there any like this for a MK6 Golf paul ?
@@Deutscheautoparts do you know if the Alltrack belly pan is a direct swap for the TDI belly pan or does it have different mount points up front?
So assuming one would take a car to VW for an oil change would it cost more cause the have to take it off?
I wouldn’t. And for this one I don’t think a shop should
What about one like that for MK5 GTi?
Na, I was looking behind you and wondering about Wookie for a second. Isn't it normal on a VW to remove the front bumper cover to do an oil change? ;D
It takes about 3 minutes once u know how
