That loom is basically just a brush guard to help keep ya from knocking off the spark plug ends driving through heavy brush. We took the loom off our old "A" once to change out the spark plugs & wires and just never re-installed the loom. Then again we never drove it through heavy brush either though we did use it to pull logs out of our woods from trees we felled for firewood. We'd drag them to the back of one of our fields and let them season, then we'd cut the wood and use the tractor again, first to hook our wood splitter to (We built a homemade splitter using the hydraulic pump on the "A" with quick couplers instead of adding a small engine and pump to the splitter itself, then let the tractor idle as we split the wood), then to hook the wagon up to to collect the split sticks of stovewood. We also used the tractor to pull the old stumps up with as well. We had a '39 "A" and a '41 "H". The A had a 3 point hitch on it while the H was strictly pull type though it did have it's own cylinder for raising and lowering the single bottom plow it had. The A had a 3 bottom plow and we usually used it in the little cornfield we had while we used the H for the little half acre garden up beside the house. Used the H for mowing with the sickle bar mower and old horse drawn rake and then used the A to pull the old Roanoke baler. Those old JD's are some real workhorses and we used ours nearly on a daily basis from Spring to Fall. :)

This old John Deere is also one of my easiest tractors to start. She's a good old machine!

Another nice video. And I agree with a poster below, your editing skills are what sets your videos apart, well, that and the content.
And that is definitely an improvement, plus now the spark plugs are protected from getting hit or damage. Good job.

Not bad, and it runs really well now for the small investment. Some of that is fairly annual maintenance anyways. I have a 1950 B and I’ve watched your videos to inspire me to do some of the maintenance and repairs on my own. Thank you.

    Nice work!!!
If you idle it much, put the transmission in neutral and then engage the clutch. The reason being, there’s a bearing inside of the clutch that is not used when the clutch is engaged.?

You better not watch my early videos then. :) It took me a while to learn to trim out the dead space. Thanks.

Best way is buy a same model that will never start and use it for parts but it hurts to kill a other tractor for parts
