Catherine you make everything so simple. The ladies have a keepsake from the retreat.
First tote bags that I made were for grocery shopping back in the late 80’s. My kids were learning in school how to be environmental friendly. So I have been using them ever since. My daughter used one as her Landry bag for camp. They were made from white heavy cotton. So easy to launder, back then the geocerycashiers really didn’t like my home made bags because they took longer to pack . The bags were not the same size as the plastic bags. I think that I still have one today 45years later.❤❤❤

Why does your narration remind me of Bob Ross. That is not an insult. I love Bob Ross’s soothing voice. But it’s not only that it’s the “that little corner just hanging out inside” sounds like something he would say if he was a sewer. Lovely job altogether!

Very good demonstration of a way to construct a sturdy tote bag which might make a nice gift for a birthday or Christmas, especially if you chose themed fabrics. Could be made with a lining or interior pockets if someone wants to add those. I’m saving this video to my gift ideas folder for future reference.😉

OMG This is my favorite video thank you so much!!! Why my favorite? I'm still a beginning sewist and only have an old sewing machine, big ironing board and rulers (no rotary cutter). This is a project I CAN do without thinking about "if I don't have..." and I LOVE the efficiency. Although I don't need 12 tote bags I'm going to make a handful or 10 :) I can always use more totes. This weekend is my sewing weekend at home so the video came just in time-this is THE project this weekend. I'm so excited! Thank you!!!

Sorry to be missing your mini retreat. It would be very fun. Tote bags are something I make a lot of. It has been my quest this year to repurpose as much textile waist from my own trash as possible. I piece together scraps from any sewing project as well as non donatable clothing and make them into cinchable gift bags or totes. These I give away to anyone who will take them. 😸

If you use drop cloth, be sure to prewash it. Also, drop cloth has a slightly looser weave and often has slubs in it. I think that just adds to the charm. I used drop cloth fabric last year to make aprons (wraparound for girls and traditional bbq style for guys) for myself, husband, all my kids, in-laws and grandkids. A total of 19 aprons in about 2 weeks. I got a pair of jeans from each of my sons, son-in-law and husband and used the back pockets for a chest pocket and sit out letters from my dad’s flannel shirt to appliqué their initial above the pocket.
