I have piles of clothing to alter due to weight loss, so this type of video is especially useful for me. Thanks for talking it through in detail. You are a gifted teacher who comes across like a friend. 🤗
That’s what I was thinking as well - love reversible dresses and shells for vacation for more looks with fewer clothes - these two sheer patterns are both pretty and both would have looked better without the design on the inside fabric bleeding through
I am still catching up on all your precious videos and having a blast. The shirt tails on the shorter dress were perfect for the fabric and style. Any longer wouldn’t have worked (for me😜). Just genius!!
You are fabulous, I just love your videos. Thank you so much for sharing. I am 76 and thought 'new it all' but your videos have given me great tips. Would you like a short holiday by the North Yorkshire Coast to sort me out, lol. Thank you my dear x x x
When you’ve visited Ann in North Yorkshire (!), you’ll have to pop down to Norwich, Norfolk, East Anglia so we can go thrifting together!! The Norfolk Broads are definitely worth a visit - especially on a narrowboat or barge!! Absolutely love your work. I always learn something new despite sewing for over 50 years! Wish you were my neighbour!!
Thank you again for another great inspiration. I see so many sleeveless dresses but want to cover my upper arms and really would love to see how to make a sheer sleeve add on for the summer. Thank you
This is my favourite kind of video! I love watching your creativity and seeing what you do with each dress. :) Watching your videos has inspired me to improve my sewing by being more patient and persevering! Thank you for making these!
Wow, you did not only "fix" the dresses, but literally upgraded them! Your additions & alterations truly elevated the looks! My favorite is the last one, although it was the most work =) great work as always, way to go! ☀️
I'm so glad I found your channel! I think that you just "bought " me at least five dresses that I should be able to rehabilitate now. I just subscribed so that I won't miss any more of your magical tricks. Now I'm off to binge-watch your other videos! Thanks again!
These came out great! When I’m adding in a new fabric at the bottom of the garment, (like your too short casual dress) I find adding a small bit of the bottom fabric can help it look cohesive. I wondered how it would look with about 1/4” -1/2” of the floral around the bottom of the sleeves, for example.
I really enjoyed watching your creative process! You always inspire me.🤗 I just came home from a doctors appointment, and go right by my favorite thrift store. Boy did I score, no dresses this time but 3 pairs of oversized linen pants to be remade. Also one of the pairs of pants has a matching hooded top. I also found these fantastic Turkish cotton pants. One fits as is, the other is oversized and will be modified. I like the “lagenlook” style, and these will make wonderful pants for layering. Because of all your detailed instruction, I am brave enough to remake them and have lovely linen pants for a few dollars. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, experience, and creativity. I always look forward to your next video🤗❤️
Congratulations on your weight loss, I definitely can tell the changes. Your capris look exactly like the pattern. You actually elevated with the rope tie.
What an inspirational video! I take ready made garments apart when they don’t suit my style but some of your additions really inspired me to think of even more alterations I could make!
@@CatherineSews it is! She Lu e out of state so we have a concentrated time together. We spend one day with her husband and mine(her dad) and drive to a bigger city and do “Thriftapalooza “. So much fun! I Refashion cloths and sell them! They are all one of a kind so sizing is always a guess.
Those dresses were great. My favorite is the blue with fluffy straps. But I also love how you lengthen both other dresses. I bought some this week and can’t wait to get started.
These videos are awesome for me, a beginner seamstress who is aspiring to go to fashion school soon! Thank you so much for being such an amazing virtual teacher as well as to your students in your class! ❤ I am also an avid thrifter which is amazing for seeing the potential for so many pieces. Super excited to work on my next project!
I use safety pins instead of straight pins when I'm resizing something so they don't slip out or stick me. I have a friend who uses safety pins instead straight pins for everything, she said, she misplaced her pins, used safety pins instead and never looked back.
I love them all, especially your clever plan with the dress you lengthened. I also think that dress #3 was a reversible dress. It's a pitty they didn't put lining in between the two layers. Would like to learn to make one of those, if you have the time, please. 😊
Hi Catherine, love the video. Regarding the last dress. I have a skirt that is two different see through fabrics. It's suppose to be a two way skirt but I made it into two different skirts with lining.
What an absolutely perfect success! Every single dress has been transformed into the ideal version of itself. Now you have two very lovely, romantic and feminine dresses that fit perfectly and look gorgeous on you! And, your third casual dress is shockingly different than what it was and now looks so cute , a truly adorable summer dress. I am so happy for you. You have amazing skills that make it possible to always be wearing clothes that look great and I am sure make you feel fantastic! Truly inspirational, thank you so much for this enlightening tutorial!
Catherine I just saw your UTube how to sew three PJs pants for boys at Christmas time. It looks so quick and easy and I will definitely try it out. Thanks you so much I really enjoy your all your videos and always learn something new.
Loved this and other content on tee shirts made bigger. I’m going to be binge watching the rest. Just thought about the double fabric dress. I think it’s for easy compact holiday packing. Two dresses in one. Love the idea of lining and just able to slip on or off though.
Thanks for the inspiration. I have a dress that is uncomfortably short (for me and probably you). I've bought some co-ordinating fabric and will add length. Thanks to you the rest of the dress that I like will be renewed and worn.
Hey, greetings from Kelowna, BC! I hope you enjoyed our wineries - we have a TON of good ones! I love how your flips turned out, very well done. I was especially pleasantly surprised by the second dress that you lengthened and took in, it looks really, really good!
Lots of inspiration in this video! And I learned a couple of things with the serger. I got one secondhand recently but only really knew how to serge the edges to prevent fraying - until today 😉 And you were in my neighbourhood! If you’re back again and want to meet for coffee or wine let me know! We could go thrifting 😊
Brilliant alterations, as always! And I agree… joy is: new rotary blades! I changed mine yesterday and couldn’t believe the difference! Though it may have had something to do with hubby “borrowing” the cutter “for a minute”. Guess what he cut….?? VINYL FLOORING!!!! Aaaaaaaagh! There was nearly a murder! After a talking to, he now knows better. 😂
The alterations came out beautifully and alot of great tips...like you can use a straight stitch on stretch fabric where the line is going vertically! But I am not going to lie, I was a little lost with last dress...I will have to rewatch! Thanks again, I simply enjoy watching your videos!
Beautiful work! You really are so gifted in your sewing abilities….😊 Question: would you consider showing how to alter jeans/ pants that are way too baggy in the backside?
Love these kinds of videos. Although I've sewed off and on my entire life, I always prefer upcycling my thrifted items, or even new bought to fit better. I'm a recent subscriber and have been binging your videos. I watched you fix the sheer top using a godet. I have a tank-style dress (not stretchy) with a high waist and then floor-length accordion pleats. It is a tad too tight in the bustline and I'm wondering what you think of trying small godets under the arm (sleeveless) at the side seams? Thanks so much. Big Hugs. Back to more of your videos! LOL
Such good tips on renewing used clothes! Love it! I live on the west side of the Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna. Enjoy your stay. It's going to be fabulous weather.
@@CatherineSews Oh nice! So good to have Canadian content on youtube. Thank you for all the tips and tricks you continue to share. I will continue to watch. You have encouraged me to keep thrifting and making clothes work for me at a better price. - Pearl
I couldn’t see it well before you cut it, but I guess dress number 3 was a reversible dress… it could be worn both sides… I’ve got such a dress (other 2 different prints) and I can wear it 2 ways 😉 Lovely video!
Brilliant, very clever and useful. Ignore my suggestion you are far more experienced than me. I’m so pleased I’ve subscribed. Thank you!
My favorite one is the first one, because it’s so pretty and it looks so lovely on you too❤ But I must say I love the solutions you came up with for all three, especially the one with the lining, it seems so obvious after seeing you do it!😊 Thanks for sharing your experience with us, Elisabeth Portland OR P.S. nicely done. :)) That first dress doesn't seem to have any 'give' in the material. having that bit of elastic at the end of the sleeve might be an important idea.. I am with you on that one.. it is an adorable and pretty dress.. :))
Looking at dress no.3, I am pretty sure that it was originally a reversible dress. I had one of these. Wore it for a wedding and reverersed it for the night do.
I have piles of clothing to alter due to weight loss, so this type of video is especially useful for me. Thanks for talking it through in detail. You are a gifted teacher who comes across like a friend. 🤗
I loved all three fixes! The last one I would have made into a reversible dress with the lining in between.

Wow, Catherine, I love how all 3 dresses turned out! I especially love how that 'potato sack' dress turned into such a cute, casual, flattering dress.

I love how all 3 dresses turned out. Maybe you could make a hair scrunchie or headband out of the scrap fabric from the last dress.
These came out great! When I’m adding in a new fabric at the bottom of the garment, (like your too short casual dress) I find adding a small bit of the bottom fabric can help it look cohesive. LOL the problem with short dresses is what happens when you sit down! Yes that one is a bit too short for comfort. You made it much easier to wear.
Would a double needle work to sew the bottom piece onto the bottom of the gray band? (Bottom on the second dress) Good job on altering clothes to fit.
That's quite clever.
