    Having a bit of competition on the rangefinder niche is actually quite good.

    How is corner performance? M lenses are known to have bad performance on full frame digital sensors. Leica added microlenses to improve this on the M cameras but I haven’t seen anything from pixii to show they’ve tackled this issue

      To my knowledge with bsi sensors the problem is far less important. The Sony bsi sensors have microlenses and the pixel tunnel is less pronounced than for m8 to m10 models.

      I know it's a big plus, but maybe I am too old school to enjoy it. No rear display takes me back to the film era, also materials this camera is made of, it's a tactile retro experience. You saw what it's capable of, I just trust it and discover later, at home, the results of the session :) others might have different needs, of course

      Agree! Tech tools have their uses, but they can also get in the way of a more direct artistic experience.

    So it is not the same pixel generation as their previous APS-C model. Which is good, as there is every chance the read-out speed will be faster than that atrociously slow 61MP sensor (1/10 sec). For comparison the 26MP APS-C sensor in the prior Pixii read out at about 1/40 sec. The full frame 24MP sensor in the Sigma fp/Sony A7III/Nikon Z6/Panasonic S5/Leica SL2-S (IMX410) reads out at 1/20 sec, which is still a little on the slow side for a camera without a mechanical shutter, so I hope this sensor is not the same as that, although I am prepared to be disappointed in this regard.

    Speculation on the focal length of the lens they are releasing too? I bet 28mm to make full use of their new rangefinder.

      I am not aware of the development of any glass, but: the pic they used on the website was the exact same photo that was on the box of the original Pixii series 1xxx. So good chances either way

      My guess is that they are NOT introducing a lens at all. That idea just came from a rumor site that got over-excited. As our host has pointed out, that "Zephyr-M" lens seen in the press photos has been used in Pixii publicity materials for years; I think it's just a mockup they made so they could show a lens on the camera without plugging Leica, Voigtlander, 7Artisans, TTArtisan, Thypoc, LLL, etc.

      @@OneLensOnly I am not sure since it seems that they use derivative math to get results of monochrome. Also, I have the 25mm
      zeiss M lens , how did you get 25mm when they only have 28mm frame lines in the VF. I was considering an SL2-S with and M mount
      adapter. Since it has a 5.7k EVF I can use all my M glass regardless of focal length and Leica has ttheir Black and White baked inside
      the camera and the EVF shows monochrome results in the EVF screen which is better than imagining what the image looks like
      without color.

    • @OneLensOnly

      exactly the same doubt I had, and I will be happy to test it for you. Ideally the calculations to "give back" luminance to pixels would take a filter into account, but I like the empirical way :)

    • @OneLensOnly
      @OneLensOnly  3 месяца назад

      to use the 25mm, of course it was not precise but I was considering just a bit wider than 28mm. Ideally the whole VF

    26mp APS-C or 24mp FF. Strange. What's the advantage?

    • @OneLensOnly
      @OneLensOnly  3 месяца назад +4

      Bigger pixels gather more light, this translates into less noise at high ISO :) and the FF sensor gives a better sense for depth of field hence more bokeh

    • @jlwilliams
      @jlwilliams 3 месяца назад +1

      It lets the photographer use a wider-angle lens without resorting to auxiliary viewfinders and without Pixii having to make the rangefinder module bigger (which they don't want to do because then older cameras wouldn't be upgradable.) The widest framelines on the APS-C model cover a focal length of 28mm, which on APS-C is ~46 degrees horizontally. The new model's viewfinder supposedly will have framelines for a 35mm lens, which corresponds to 54 degrees on 36x24mm format.
      My concern now is that the only obvious way to keep the rangefinder module the same size but cover a wider angle of view is to reduce the finder's magnification, which on the current model is 0.67x. Keeping everything the same but stretching the coverage to 54 degrees seems as if it would require dropping the magnification to (46/54) * 0.67 = ~0.57x. But who knows, David and Melric are smarter than I am, so maybe they've figured out something clever...

      @xyphoto 3 месяца назад +2

      This camera uses m-mount lenses. They are all FF. By using them with a FF sensor, you use the correct focal length that the lens is intended (no longer x1.5), and will be able to use the full coverage of the glass (with APSC, you only use the central area of the glass).
