    I don't think fighting amongst the community or supporting the latest fomo helps. as I say in the video, the games naturally makes us content creators hype up the latest things.
    Instead i believe the best way of combating this is knowing how to avoid the hype whilst learning to improve your favourites and account.

      I can understand your POV, but at the same time I never really felt like I needed to invest in my favourite characters in Genshin in particular like that, the endgame is already easy and if I have to struggle a bit more to get good clears it makes it more fun and I can try out different teams as well (although at a certain point benching certain characters becomes easy as well). Maybe in starrail there is that incentive, but definitely not in Genshin.

      Fwiw I agree with the overall point of "don't get too sucked into hype around the new thing". IMO the difference is that in Genshin, as long as you don't pull for every new character, it's pretty reasonable to get the characters you like and something close to their best in slot team. It's not too hard to keep up with. Star Rail has faster number powercreep, more new unit releases, more team-specific best in slot supports, and more different modes you might want a unit for (Pure Fiction in particular). I've never felt like it mattered almost at all when I missed a unit I wanted in Genshin, it's only happened like once or twice in three years and it was never a big deal. In Star Rail it's already been at least three times and feels awful every time. And if anything I've pulled for more new DPS characters in Genshin.

    • @Nagassh
      @Nagassh Месяц назад +1

      I'm not sure I agree with that - what power disparity is there is just more tangible since HSR actually has endgame content that stresses it.
      There are definitely characters that struggle - Seele is a sad state (though you could say the same about plenty of early Genshin limiteds), but SR also does a half decent job of dragging old characters back up. Sunday was a strong support that released, but his release has dragged Jing Yuan - one of the first limited 5* dps released up to a competetive spot, Big Herta looks like she might be helping Serval see some light for the first time despite being a launch character.
      If Genshin actually had more endgame content I think how dupstered the older characters are and how rare it is for any of them to be dragged up by new releases would be far worse than what SR has going on.

    Star rail is a much more numerical game (it being turn based and all) so it makes sense that people feel the pressure there, but in Genshin I've always felt like everything works. Some things take more resets than others to make a clear happen, but old characters are still clearing the abyss just fine so I don't understand why people feel like they must improve their already OP teams just to have 45 seconds left on the clock instead of 30.

      feel like it’s much worse in hsr though. a lot of the endgame has started to use the best teams as a baseline to make the content harder, to prevent characters like acheron from doing 1M damage and oneshotting the boss .. just imagine how bad it is for weaker characters. yea, you can use f2p characters or older 5 star units but they’re practically nothing without their most op supports (rip dot team) even with insane investment bc of the hp inflation in this game, it’ll get worse and worse as they create newer insane kits manipulating battle mechanics to generate hype and then pay the price by making content unbeatable

    In my opinion, Genshin powercreep, while real, isn't actually that bad. I can still clear the content with my Ganyu, even though she's an "old" character (with good artifacts, weapon and team). I don't think you could do that in Star Rail: an E0S1 DHIL with Sparkle, Robin and Fu Xuan can't really clear fast enough to get all stars in MoC imo.
    Do with that as you will.
    I might also add that with Imaginarium Theater, characters that don't see that much play aren't useless because this mode encourages horizontal investment; my Hu Tao hasn't seen that much play in Abyss recently, but every IT that has Pryo I get her out, because she's still good enough.
    I think you get the point.

    • @ampersan3
      @ampersan3 29 дней назад

      @@violet_lilacTrue. Powercreep = HP inflation isn't really the best answer. It's the environment and the enemy compositions that should be taken note of. Sure there are things that really made 1.x units like Seele, DHIL, Jingliu fall off, but they come out every now and then because the current enemy lineup and buffs favor them. People also shat on DoT being also powercrept but when it's DoT pure fiction or there are buffs in Apoc that favor them then they kinda go back in the limelight. If the boss also favors the character (e.g. Boothill against Aventurine boss, Yunli vs Kafka or Hoolay, Seele vs True Sting, Firefly vs Puppet Trio, etc.) then they would certainly pop off.

  • @thegamewoods8473
    @thegamewoods8473 Месяц назад +281

    For what its worth, Genshin has always been great at handling powercreep and really its because of units like Bennett.
    For how much the playerbase bemoans his existence, him and units like Fischl and XQ provide an incredibly important service, that being extremely strong baselines for accounts. Almost everyone has a Bennett, a XQ, a Fischl, and with these core units, no matter what 5 star you have, you can make them work regardless. Its a safety net which keeps the 5 star supports in check.
    Thats why Star Rail feels so harsh with its powercreep. Because it completely lacks those really strong, versitile 4 stars that create a baseline of account power, and in its place are extremely overtuned supports that become borderline necessary for team comps.
    Want to use any Break Dps? Better have Ruan Mei, wanna play FuA, better have pulled Robin and Aventurine, want to use that shiny new Rememberance path? Did you remember to pull Sunday before he left? Its the complete lack of options.
    Sure, people complain about lack of Bennett alternatives, but thats a minor inconvenience as opposed to the crippling flaw that it would be in Star Rail.
    Furthermore, Star Rail has massive HP bloat. Teams that used to dominate the end game now are struggling to even get by and now need to dedicate resources to a new character just to keep their old teams competitive. Genshin doesn't have this problem. Hu Tao is still as strong as she always was, even with stronger options in her class shes still more than enough for endgame. Star Rail cant say the same.

    HSR powercreep is not even close to Genshin.
    HSR released 2 broken characters with broken light cones every patch, while Genshin very rarely has 2 new characters per patch.
    Sadly, HSR endgame will be designed and scaled around this new character, which will become a struggle the more you skip a character. And YOU WILL skip characters unless you spend a lot of money in the game.

    FOMO in Genshin is generally very mild since characters tend to have a wide range of Team Comp options and even if you don't have the premium option the difference is very minimal.
    In HSR a DPS is lucky to have more than one Team option, and even when they do they are still stuck with a single Support option since the game insists on never releasing side-grades or 4 Star options for premium options (Robin is the only FuA Support, Ruam Mei is the only Break Support, Sunday is the only Summon Support, etc...) which increases the pressure on you to go after premium supports even more since if you don't have them you're screwed.

  • @zorgling25
    @zorgling25 Месяц назад +88

    I'm a little hesitant to lump Genshin and HSR together in this respect because the rate of powercreep is somewhat different between them.
    Genshin's had a rise in Abyss enemy HP by roughly 60% since 4.0, and at the current pace is averaging a year-on-year rise of about 30-50% per year. This is in the range where if you like a character and want to keep using them, you can keep up with the pace through vertical investment in constellations, signature, supports, etc. Most forms of vertical investment these days clock in around 20% DPS per pity (i.e. this is around where a "good" constellation or signature weapon land, with the best ones being even higher than this), so if you really like a character, even if they get powercrept, it's not unreasonable to keep investing in them and keep using them over the course of several years by investing into them.
    HSR's year-on-year rise in enemy HP in the endgame modes has by contrast been around 200-300%, while not really having vertical investment options that corresponds to such a larger increase--constellations and signature light cones still clock in around that 20% range. This means that if 3.x doesn't slow down the rate at which these modes inflate HP, it becomes much harder to continue using a character beyond their second year, even with vertical investment. New supports and new teams help--but they can only do so much if the next year represents *another* 200-300% inflation. Investing heavily in your favorites help to alleviate this in the short term, but does not ultimately help in the long-term when the rate of inflation exceeds the improvement offered by vertical investment. The rate of increase is...concerning, even if it's not necessarily a problem for people yet.
    It's just hard to see HSR ending up in a spot like Genshin where 1.x DPSes like Hu Tao and Xiao are still good 4-5 years later (even if they aren't the best anymore) simply because of this rate of increase. Like even as well as Jing Yuan has aged with new supports and teams, it's still hard to envision him being able to keep up if MoC enemy HP is 800-1000% higher than it is now--which is where it will be if the current pace continues. If Hoyo drastically slows down the rate of increase through 3.x, it's a different story, but thus far there are no signs that Hoyo even sees this as something that needs to change.

      You can't just look at the HP numbers in a vacuum for HSR. The HP numbers are balanced around the blessing, and it is expected that you are abusing the blessing as part of your strategy. For example, in the current MoC the swarm bug has ~3.3 million HP between its two phases, but killing a trotter deals ~140k damage. So let's say you kill 10 trotters over the course of 5 cycles, then that is over 1.4 million damage just from trotters, or over 40 percent of the boss's total HP. So the "insane HP inflation" that there appears to be on paper is to some extent illusory.
      That said, the HP inflation is obviously quite noticeable even when accounting for the blessing. But it's not as extreme as people make it out to be. I full starred this MoC 12 with DoT (5 cost) first half and Jingliu (6 cost) second half. Based on your napkin math, I literally should not be able to clear with these old characters, but I did.

    • @nvmage
      @nvmage Месяц назад +3

      Actually it means there is illusion of choice. If you take an old character you need more vertical investments to make it relevant and it has shorter lifespan. So only the latest character exists. Until you meet your favourite character which you would like to play forever you have to chase the meta.
      HP inflation practice must be treated as a fraud. Like Apple artificially slows down iPhones with iOS updates to sell a new model. Difficulty of end game content must be rebalanced each time depending on your selected characters.

    The 1 thing that keeps Genshin from feeling as powercrept as Star Rail is just the kind of game it is. With Genshin the "feel" and gameplay of a character matters just as much as raw numerical value. But in HSR there isn't that "feel" factor that needs to be accounted for when designing characters kits. So the only way to actually get people to get new characters is to numerically powercreep them. Neuvillette and Mualani are a prime example. Sure Mualani can hit bigger nukes than Neuv and is better than him in Speedrun content, but the comfort and ease of use Neuvillettes gameplay provides is more valuable to most people. So the powercreep feels less agregious.

    I think overall I'm just a bit disappointed by the recent choices in Genshin and HSR in terms of character releases, powercreep, etc.,. In Genshin for the first time we have two new characters releasing in the same half who have each other as their best teammate by a significant margin. And in HSR we have had a level of HP inflation in recent months that has eclipsed anything we've seen so far. Overall we can always say "just wait" or "don't get baited" but I think Hoyo has definitely ramped up the FOMO in both of their games to an unprecedented level in the past patches thanks to their design and banner choices.
    I think one thing that might need to be mentioned is that going vertical might actually make FOMO even worse if you're focused on getting "the best" teams because while it might give you a bit of a buffer damage-wise, it means if you are susceptible to trying to get the next best team then you might actually feel even more pressured to vertically invest in that new team so that it actually does more damage than your existing team. For example you might go for C1 Arle, then realize that C0 Mav isn't better but C0R1 or C2 Mav is so you go for that, then the next best DPS comes out but only beats C2 Mav at C2 as well so you go for that, etc., etc.,.
    It's a very expensive and dangerous hole to fall into, that's also accentuated by how early cons are a lot better than others. If you go for C2 Mav for example the rest of her cons are a lot less valuable and you hit diminishing returns for further vertical investment. That basically means after a certain point the pressure to just throw your old DPS out for a new one who does more vs just throwing more primos into a vertical investment black hole becomes more tempting. There's also the fact that low cons and especially C6 is a lot more prone to powercreep than C0 in Genshin, where from 2.0 to 5.0 C6 DPS has literally quintupled.
    Of course someone can say "well it's your fault" for falling for FOMO. But Gacha is literally a psychological game between the devs and players, one which devs always come out on top (or else they wouldn't make the huge wads of money they do). It's not that going for the best is required, but it's no surprise that players want the strongest characters or teams anyways. For many players, the enjoyment of the game itself is building strong teams and clearing the hardest content intrinsically, not just to collect 50 primogems or stellar jades or whatever.

      I stopped playing Dokkan right about when I started playing Genshin in 3.2, and I truly have no regrets. Not only is Dokkan a pretty bad game overall now that I look back on it, which as a Dragon Ball fan I could close my eyes on to an extent and just treat it as a card collection ig, but the powercreep really took a turn for the worst around the time I left. My brother still plays to this day and I sometimes see stuff about the new units and endgame, and yeah, the HP/damage inflation is unfathomable. Characters who were super meta back then, are now absolute dogshit despite getting very direct buffs in the meantime in the form of an awakening, if not several awakenings
      I still remember the era when the powercreep was slow enough that TEC Gohan remained a god tier unit for like 3 years in a row, and then remained relevant for 1 or 2 additional years despite his low damage, just because of how rare his defensive features were at the time (guard + greatly stacking defense). Nowadays, if a new character/awakening doesn't have guard or 50+% dmg reduction AND insane defensive values in their kit, they're dead on release - literally, they'll get oneshot in any recent endgame content. Oh and they should also deal some good dmg too, nothing crazy, just a few DOZENS OF MILLIONS per super attack (and the ability to get multiple super attacks ofc, and guaranteed crits as well because why not ?)
      It's so funny because when I was still a quite new Dokkan player, I remember getting the free Goku and Vegeta SSRs from the Broly movie event (around 2018 - 2019 I believe ?) and thinking that they were great F2P options with their 50K def stat and maybe 100K damage on SA... and I'm not even an OG player, the true OG ones will tell you that they used to play characters who couldn't even reach 10K damage and had virtually no defense to speak of, but who were super meta at the time lmao

    Great video. Especially for a newer player they would feel the push for needing the to hyper horizontal invest in every new dps and support (like getting emilie for kinich) meanwhile an older ver 2.0 player like me can still clear with a bit vertical invested ayaka freeze comp or a simple melt ganyu team so i know chasing the new shiny dps for the highest dmg screenshot or dpr isnt as important in the long run. As what jamie said, play who you want and dont ever shy about skipping the new shinny new character to vertically invest a bit on someone who you actually enjoy because with how the genshin meta is, it would probably go back a full circle and now your "powercrepted" old favourite character now does almost the same dmg as the newest shiniest new hyped team just by replacing 1 or 2 supports.

I just really hate how artifacts and sets work in HSR. I just wish all 3 games were like ZZZ artifacts then I would be happy.

    I fell for the hype and pulled on Xianyun, Sunday, Hu Tao, and Mavuika to a lower extent. I pulled on Hu Tao's rerun even though I had an invested Raiden International team and even a Yoimiya because of the supposed damage difference even though it ended up being a matter of one extra rotation in the best case scenario. Both my Sunday and Xianyun have yet to be used in endgame content and I pulled both on the promise that they unlock new gameplay teams instead of what my account has at the time.

    Mihoyo makes money farms which on the first glance resemble good looking games. And recently all the cattle woke up and started complaining that they don't like to be milked. I'll tell guys a secret - Genshin needs maybe 2-5 mil per month maximum to be a sucessful/profitable business, yet they still chose to overmonetize the game (which directly ruins the gameplay quality) for massive overprofits (same thing in all other Hoyo products).

    Amazing take imo. My philosophy is always to pull and build the teams that feel the most ”complete” and good feeling teams. And I mostly pull vertical investments for that purpose, to make characters more universal or stronger in new areas.
    I also try to not pull too many things with conflicting teamates. Like I skipped Arlechinno completely and I am SO happy how that turned out for me, since I like Mavuika a lot more, and those two wouldnt be well to play on two sides of the abyss. And a hot take, I never really liked Arlechinno as a character, so im glad I didnt buy into her hype, since I enjoy Mavuika a lot more, so I am feeling better about vertically investing into her.

  • @nizarahmad3912

    My genshin account is incredibly lucky. I've never regretted any characters that I've pulled, except for maybe Childe because I was clueless back then. I pulled basically all the hype characters like the Archons, Arle, etc. None of which I regretted or didn't enjoy playing. All of the characters in my account are useful in some way, and even if their role might be redundant with the other characters I have, I still find enjoyment out of everything. My rule of thumb is either the character is a much needed support for my acc or that I like the character (design/personality/story) enough for me to pull. Since I'm also invested in the story, my pulls naturally went into the most interesting character from the story. No FOMO for me. As an f2p and a long time player, I can comfortably clear this game end game content and just pull whoever I want.

    I pulled Mavuika because I liked her from her first appearance in the Natlan storyline and because I like collecting tall and beautiful women on my account. I took Citlali because cryo is my favorite element (Eula and Ayaka's main is in touch). It so happened that Hoyo decided to put two interesting characters for me on one banner. If Skirk has a cryo element, I will 100% take her. I try not to take everything, but only what corresponds to my favorite type and what is interesting to play with. Everyone is looking for something different in this game. Efficiency is not the first priority. At the end of the day, there are always a thousand reasons to pull characters, there are just times when you pick a character that is overpowered or meta-defining, and it can be really hard to explain to people that you like the character itself, not the numbers the developers fed it.

    One reason why I don't feel like the powercreep in Genshin is particularly harsh is because the endgame modes don't take a big enough part of the game for the meta to matter that much. Abyss and Imaginarium can be harsh at times, but I don't spend as much time on it as I spend on exploration and quests, where the combat is much more lenient.
    I went through most of the early game playing very off-meta DPSes like physical Kaeya and Ningguang and it wasn't bad at all. It's more important that I like the character and/or enjoy their playstyles tbh

    I love how we never talked about this at all in genshin until Mavuika came out, not even when there was Mualani and Neuvillette. And it's all because Arlechinno, Arlechinno simps be strong I suppose. Heaven forbid an Archon is the strongest character of their respective element. Seriously though some will have to admit it's dumb how this wasn't a topic until Mavuika when it's been a thing since like Sumeru perhaps even before then.
    However in star rail it's very present and it's ridiculous, but most of it is because of Hoyo's definition of endgame which is increase health pool while adding stronger units for profit, at the same time not buffing older units because then people wouldn't buy newer characters.

    i understand how this is effecting the players even me myslef got fomoed, however
    as a general rule get the character that you like AND help your account
    in genshin that what i do on my F2P account, but i do indulge in my light spender account (i did pull yoimiya on her re run and that cost 160 pulls she was my on fielder dps and i playedher in overload team till i got mavuika)
    in hsr i was f2p for a year then became a light spender (my luck is like my light spender account in genshin) i usually invest into 2 archetype per year and as you said my bad character i got during first year JY and Topaz were usable through the year and became more relevant in recent updates
    For people still thinking on the current/upcoming banners in genshin and hsr
    realistically in genshin if you can get 1 character then citlali can work with older pyro units and archons do get more frequent reruns
    in hsr the value of rerun is significantly worse than new units and elemental coverage so that cross out most rerun dps and silver wolf has zero rule in the meta, so then its robin lingsha and the new characters
    for new player prioritize the healer as its very difficult to just play natasha
    for non new player you can go either for new dps or robin however robin is on second half so you can wait for the livestream and find out what Tribbe do as she might be a robin 2.0 or she might work better with the roster you have

    its sad because some of my favorite honkai star rail videos are (well, used to be) from creators doing 4 star only runs in moc. i enjoy them because it showed that if you know the game in and out, have those key 4 star light cones and 4 star character eidolons, then with enough investment, you can clear the hardest content. unfortunately this hasnt been the case for the past few months, now with all the hp inflation its literally impossible to clear moc 12 within 20 cycles with only 4 star characters, no matter how hyper invested they are. something seriously needs to be done, and soon. i've seen genshin creators clear abyss floor 12 with 36 stars recently with only 2 4 star characters on each side, even with overpowered characters like neuvilette existing in the game.

    People have to recognize "not the best option" doesn't mean bad. Star rail endgame modes, and to a lesser extent for genshin, are tailored to the current banner, but it doesn't mean you can't clear. I'm one of those who don't pull just to make my favourites stronger. On the first half of this moc12, I had to use this team of acheron (e0s1), kafka (e0s0), fu xuan (e0s0), guinaifen to clear with 5 cycles. Take a guess why guinaifen is there.
    It's just a given that if don't want to fall to fomo/whaling, you have to make up for it by artifact investment, teambuilding, understanding game mechanics, and how to solve the problems the game throws at you with tools you do have. In other words, you have to play the game. In genshin, you often don't even have to change the teams if your old team is good enough.

    My playstyle in Genshin is to pull C0 every unit, but no constellations and no signature weapons (literally the content creator playstyle). It's so much fun to mix different units and create new teams, especially mixing older units with the latest units. For most META players, Genshin is still way too easy of a game. The difficulty will never reach a level where we can't 36-star. Everything is dying way too quickly, I see no point in killing everything even quicker. Dabbling into low gold cost speedrunning is plenty of fun already, I don't need to move up to medium-high gold cost investment level. If you have the proper combat skills and game knowledge, you can afford "bricking" your account by spreading the resources thinly across the board. Half the fun of Genshin for me is derived from participating in the latest discourse surrounding latest characters and learning how to play them properly alongside all the other META players.

It has been quite a long time since her release, enough time to already pulled all that stuff for her. I still don't think Genshin's powercreep is that bad, the Liyue's big 3 can clear the abyss, Keqing can clear Abyss, Diluc can clear abyss. Ofc, it's just natural for a gacha game to always release a stronger character (or with more QOL).
    I think Abyss just needs to introduce a new system honestly, like adding a new floor, where you have to use 3 teams. So you can use more teams and not let the old characters fall in limbo.

    I didn't know you can get Xianyun from TCG (/s).
    Jokes aside, you don't need every character in the game, especially Genshin, as long as you know what you're doing when it comes it building characters & playing the game. I've been helping my viewers clear abyss on top of doing guides for Abyss & Theatre, & I can say that Genshin does a rare thing where no characters are ever truly useless. Even someone like Xinyan has some use for Mualani. Sure, its not the best option, but at least it is an option that works.
    Also, we know this by now, but Genshin having 4-stars that are still meta till today is such a rare thing given how gachas work in general. While it doesn't have the "Ascension" mechanic that other gachas have, where older lower rarity units can be ascended to a higher rarity through farming "Shards" & this tends to make them meta again. It's nice to have lower rarity units that have some value to the game regardless of how much time passes.
    I pull new characters just to see what kind of gameplay they can offer to game, so I guess I'm neither the waifu or meta kind of person (though I wish they'd stop releasing a DPS every patch). As I play more Imaginarium Theatre for the purpose of guide-making, I learn to appreciate a lot of the less played 4-star units since each of them have certain niches that they fulfill or do, that 5-star units tends to not have. (E.g. Amber w/ fast Pyro app w/ her Burst which helped in breaking Electro Regisvine corolla or Chongyun being a Cryo Claymore character which helps with the Suanni boss).
    TLDR: Genshin is pretty casual friendly & powercreep may be evident, but the effect is rather minimal given the current state of the endgame content.

    In all honesty, Genshin’s curve is still pretty well managed. Realistically speaking, having Bennett with your Mavukia is still going to let you kill everything without much hassle. There’s a lot of meta characters in genshin that don’t need their best teams to succeed. You can run Arlecchino’s third best team and still be okay. Some people are just obsessed with a one shotting in a perfect rotation.
    HSR is different on the other hand with how some teams really don’t exist without specific characters. There’s no such thing as a Kafka replacement and we’re only now getting a second 5 star ice dps. What’s crazy is if they just consistently made 4 star versions or existing archetypes and kits, people could round out teams so much better. There’s no 4 star quantum designed for PF and that’s pretty insane cause they will always make a quantum weak floor.

      I have a friend who really hates Pokke because of his attitutde and behavior (showman), and outside of him, there is honestl mainly Ruri Goko (if you like tryhard content) and EODGamer (which has done nice job in helping people in investing imo)

      I feel like all the most vocal HSR CCs, the "thought leaders" in that community, are the ones constantly feeding the gacha hype/FOMO cycle and exaggerating how meta-breaking every new unit is and acting like every old unit is worthless, powercrept trash after like 2 patches. It's really exhausting.

      @@jamiekb9v I would disagree that you have nothing to contribute, because as you said in this video you have been successfully clearing all endgame modes as a F2P and have been able to do so with older teams like DoT that the community largely (and incorrectly imo) regards as unviable and powercrept.
      That kind of perspective is incredibly rare in the HSR community because most CCs are on the constant hype train every patch, and are usually whales who pull and build every character.
      I think videos of your thoughts on units' pull value and sharing your thought process on how you decide to pull on your account would be useful to some people.
      Many people in the HSR community clearly struggle to build their accounts effectively and are frustrated that they cannot win with their old favorites. Someone like you who is a known and respected voice in this space could act as a good role model and give them a template of how they can find the same success you have.
      I think one of the reasons F2Ps think so highly of Genshin is because there are CCs like Zajef who are committed to providing advice and TC for F2P teams and strategies, and not simply focusing on the latest flavor of the month 5 star with their optimal (usually 5+ cost) team. There is a serious dearth of that kind of content in the HSR space that desperately needs to be filled imo

      @dalzmc Месяц назад +2

      @@mitrettavrednik I think HSR partly causes that problem themselves because of the exact way they build the fotm mechanics into their endgame; it is much more influential than anything I've seen in Genshin. Like in genshin Zajef always ends up saying "keep in mind this character's performance is inflated this abyss due to blessing" but never has to say "Keep in mind these characters are all going to perform like dog this abyss because of the blessing", which would often have to be said in HSR, if you know what I mean? Like Genshin's fotm blessing simply makes the strong look stronger but the weak are still fine; whereas in HSR, the fotm blessing makes you use the fotm characters to fulfil it's conditions, and the weak look even weaker

    i think this is a great take that should be normal although yes i don’t think it should be about pointing fingers at each other since other perspectives also have valid points. i have always been a strong believer of pulling who i like and not being afraid to skip characters. however i think hyper investment for f2ps is sometimes an unrealistic expectation as i have never been able to get enough pulls for the weapon banner and ended up getting nothing. and i dont even have the greatest meta units either. perhaps for hardcore/og/lucky players it works out but unlucky f2p/casuals will have it rough.
    my main gripe with hsr is that i just dont enjoy a lot of the designs so when i pull for what i like, they end up being very underwhelming even though i have no interest in their supports. you do need certain characters to support the character you like whether or not you like them. this is perfectly normal but this contributes to feeling forced to pull. i personally prefer hyper investment into the character i like rather than their teams

    This a topic that's always been looming about but you're one of the few CCs to articulate it well in video format. At the end of the day all these games is going to EOS eventually so just pick who you like, learn how to make them to the best they can be and go on about your business so you can look back at your time with the game with no regrets. Until we run into a situation like the OG main DPS (Klee, Diliuc, Keqing, etc) not being able to 36 star Abyss then all this power creep panic discussion don't have much weight at the moment and just usual content/clickbait farming.

  • @Kalagni1000

    In retrospect i usually can dodge FOMO, because i usually pull the DPS i like first then try build the rest of the team around that DPS until i'm bored with that playstyle. Also i usually spend most of my primos budget to get supporting characters which actually a benefit for me in the long run because i can mix and match the team so i don't get bored quickly. My goal for now it's to have DPS representative from each element. I already have Pyro (Arlle/Hu Tao), Electro (Clorinde/Raiden), Hydro (Mualani), Geo (navia) and Dendro (Tighnari). Just need Cryo and Anemo to complete my DPSdex.
    For the powercreep, honestly i don't feel it. For now. I played from the beginning of Fontaine and barely noticed the difference. Like i said earlier, i spend most of my primos budged to collect supporting char even in this Natlan era, which in turn make my account feels very flexible against the abyss.

    I have to admit, I do pull some meta characters. But not because they are meta but instead because I like them. I have characters like Neuvilette, Furina, Nahida, Kazuha, Raiden, Navia, Alhaitham, and Citlali. And some of the characters I am planning to pull are meta too. Mavuika and Xilonen for instance. I’m also trying to get Chasca, Kinich, and Xianyun. But I didn’t choose any of them, be it from the characters I already have, or am trying to get, for their meta value but instead because I either liked their playstyle, or I liked them as a character.
    And no even if I have those characters I will not do things like Neuvilette, Citlali, Xilonen Mavuika. I will still use Neuvilette, Zhongli, Kazuha, Furina or Neuvilette, Zhongli, Furina, Bennet (depending on if I want vape or not) and I still play Ayaka Freeze with Ayaka, Furina/Mona, Kazuha, Charlotte/Diona. Same with Navia, Zhongli, Bennet, Xiangling. That won’t change. But I will also get to make other teams like a pyro main dps team once I have Mavuika because I currently don’t have a Pyro DPS except for Diluc and Dehya but I don’t like the playstyles of either of them, or Chasca’s playstyle looks so fun for example. Same with Kinich. I will still use Alhaitham Hyperbloom even if I have Kinich though. I like having the option to try different styles. I guess this might be the only case where I like having a lot of options.
    I’m someone who plays a character if I like them even if they may not be the best. Granted some characters I like are definitely very good. Neuvilette and Furina are examples of that, but I also still play Ayaka Freeze and cryo focused Freeze is kind of in a sad state right now.

    You're telling this as if it was easy not to fall for FOMO while these games keep getting harder and harder ! Not every player knows which choice is the best to do ! Not every player is lucky enough to get the best supports ! Not every player can afford to get the 5* weapons/light cones ! Not every player can have 200 CV on their builds ! And more importantly, not every player is good enough to constantly clear endgame content, which is the primal source of powercreep ! So ofc, some players want to keep up with the current meta and pull for the latest and more powerful options instead of following the "Pull who you like" motto ! The whole gacha system in itself in encouraging players to spend more so the companies arethe real ones to blame !

      @jamiekb9v I mostly agree with what you said but the fact is that not every player is skillful enough to clear with who they like if these characters are on the mid-Tier ! Also you gave the example of Navia's best teams changing from double Pyro to Plunge to double Pyro again ! That's also where players can get tricked by pulling the current best teammates for their characters only to get replaced by better options later on !

    Any gacha's biggest and first enemy is FOMO. If you have FOMO, you lose already. Then how do you battle FOMO? As an experienced 10-years F2P gacha player here are some ways:
    1. Define what kind of player you are. Are you a Meta chasers? Then you dont need to read this, i hope you have enough money to back it up. Are you a casual player that dont care about 9-starring Abyss floor 12? Then pull whoever you like, your investment doesnt mean anything. But what if you want every characters with their weapons ASAP? Then you are a lost cause, i hope you have enough money to back it up or get lucky or stop playing. Are you like me, who like some characters but still want to clear abyss with them or just want to have their weapons? Then proceed to the next step.
    2. Choose characters that you REALLY like, and i mean it. You need to consider a lot of things to choose the character like their gameplay, characterization/lore, design, element/vision, etc. There are a lot more things to consider but for me, i need those four things to fit my preference. After you chose, then STICK with them. Set your target on them. Save your primos until you guaranteed or has high enough chance to get them, do not falter of other temptation. If you are a person that cant do that because you are easily influenced, then you have FOMO, you lost. And if you don't, proceed to the next step.
    3. PLAY THE GAME. Start saving by doing dailies, weeklies, and explorations. Spend your resin wisely, starting from the level/ascension and talent of the characters and their weapons that you use for farming, and then their artefacts. Not only it makes a faster farming, but also a more enjoyable experience playing the game since you are not struggling. After that you can start pre-farm for the target character until you have enough resources and eventually get them. If you don't feel like clearing abyss with them, then stop reading this, rinse and repeat. if you do, proceed to the next step.
    4. Build the team around that character. Almost every character has more than one archetype of team style, choose the one that you prefer the most like in step 2. if you dont like any of the character, find the alternatives by looking guide videos and articles. Even then, your character will most likely want (or their alternatives) either of these: Bennet, Xinqiu, Dendro, Fischl, Anemo (for VV) and/or Natlan characters (for Scroll of Cinder City). Plus a dedicated shielder if you are a mobile player or have issues in dodging. Pay a bit more attention to any of the high value 5* team members unit like Furina, Xilonen, Kazuha, Nahida, etc; they are great support for the team DPS and can be used in many team. Rinse and repeat.
    5. Rome is not built in one day, and so is your account. My account (from 2.2) takes 8 months to 9-star Floor 11 by myself and 9 months 9-star Floor 12 by other person who is more proficient playing abyss. And by the 12th month i can 9-star Floor 12 by myself. Since then, i dont miss 9-starring Floor 12 ever again except the infamous 3.6 Abyss and 3.3 Abyss the one with Golden Wolflord. Now, i have 18 copies of limited 5* (Two characters are C2 and one at C1) and 8 limited 5* weapons completely F2P (except for 4 welkins i won from giveaways). Have patience, if dont then you have FOMO, you lost.
