The New and Improved Mood Matrix || Ace Attorney: Truth and Consequences

  • Athena's been making some changes to the Mood Matrix! She's just about ready to release it to the public. Here's a demonstration of all the new things you can expect from it in The Twin Turnabout, the third case in Ace Attorney: Truth and Consequences.
    Athena Cykes is surprised to be contacted out of the blue by Simon Blackquill, whose friend from prison has been accused of theft. But Athena gets the sense that there's far more to this case than meets the eye, and the theft might just be the least of her problems. Can she, Trucy, and Apollo solve this case and save Blackquill's friend, or will they fall victim to whatever is going on behind the scenes?
    This Athena-led case features the return of many fan favorites from both trilogies and many new characters as well! It will also be incorporating some new uses of the Mood Matrix and explore the psyches and development of the major characters, both old and new.
    Ace Attorney: Truth and Consequences is a new game coming from Sarcastic Pasta Games. It is being developed alongside Glitch in the System. Step into the world of Ace Attorney for 5 brand new cases with the characters you've gotten to know and love written by KatieMarie999, the co-writer and co-director for The BOSS, The BOSS is Nothing, and Glitch in the System.
    Set just a few weeks after Spirit of Justice, Phoenix Wright and his friends take on five brand new cases! Meanwhile, a notorious serial killer has come out of hiding to target Miles Edgeworth. Can Phoenix figure out who this killer is before they come after Edgeworth himself? And does the fact that a prosecutor from his past has returned have anything to do with this current dilemma?

    Case 3: The Twin Turnabout (Athena)
    Case 4: The Shattered Turnabout (Phoenix)
    Case 5: The Unconventional Turnabout (Apollo)

    Featuring one full case for both Athena Cykes and Apollo Justice as well as familiar faces and ties to previous games, Truth and Consequences will be an unforgettable experience. The Twin Turnabout is currently in development and should be out fairly soon. We're planning to release the first third of it quite soon, as a matter of fact.

      Sounds about right, yeah. Plus quite a few black locks on top and all kinds of nervous tics. The WAA would have a frield day with that guy.

    these are some cool ideas! I love the new emotions, I did always feel like blue was a bit all over the place ranging from sadness to fear, which are completely different from each other. like if someone sees a brutalized dead body and is sad instead of afraid, that implies they know the victim rather than being horrified by the sight of the body
    but I feel like Athena kinda guilt tripped Trucy at the end lol. wouldn't it make sense to want to lower the stress level? or maybe in rare cases increase it, maybe to get the culprit angry and get them to slip up. I don't fully get the argument for keeping the stress level in the middle.

      This is a proof of concept. I just was showing you how this is going to work and wrote that out in one go without thinking too much about it. I'll make more sense in-game. But I fully agree on your first point. Blue needed to be split into 3 emotions. I think these 6 are the most basic ones that can give much more nuanced and specific Mood Matrix readings.

    Green: happiness/enjoyment/euphoria
    Red: anger/frustration/rage
    Yellow: surprise/confusion/shock
    Blue: sadness/anguish/despair
    Pink: embarrassment/shame/guilt/mortification
    Purple: fear/anxiety/nervousness/worry/terror

      I think they wanted to keep it simple but this would actually make it more realistic.
      Although uhhh having a witness always showing the embarassed emotion all the time when seeing Athena also is ;)

      It's simply because it has only appeared in two games. And the second of those had _another_ gratuitous gameplay gimmick to focus on.

      It's coming soon! We're actually just about done with the first part. The defendant's sprites are the only things we need at the moment, and they're being worked on pretty regularly. In the meantime, I've been working on the next day and it seems to be about half done. So trial 2 is on its way.

      Well if you mean avoiding it through the development process, I've already fallen into it. Without question, this was the hardest case to figure out in terms of what I wanted to do with it. But in quality, I think what I ended up doing with it has turned out very well and the defendant is one of my favorite new characters in the entire game. I do think what I've made of it so far has been pretty solid. Up to you all to decide whether it works as a whole though.

    Now if they actually do a focused Athena Cykes Ace Attorney game this is what I would want them to do. Have the Mood Matrix get an upgeade because there are so many other emotions that people feel Besides, Happy, Sad, Anger, and Shocked.

    I think in the second part, when you're deciding how to convince Trucy, the options should have dialogue labels, like in Logic Chess. Otherwise we can't really predict what each choice really means, and we'll probably end up choosing at random xD
