The "Kreutzer" sonata performed on a Strad violin once owned and played by Kreutzer himself...!

    • @manymany5076

Kreutzer never played this piece. He hated Beethoven's music. Beethoven dedicated this Sonata to George Bridgetower, the mulatto violinist who premiered it reading from Beethoven's shoulder before the work was published.

    • @liamnevilleviolist1809

@@manymany5076 I didn't know that, as I am not a big "fan" of Kreutzer as a violinist, and also the history of this piece was not taught to us in university.
It is however being played on (in this video) by a Strad that was once owned by Kreutzer. Strange?

    • @liamnevilleviolist1809

The violinist from Tolstoy's novel was a professional musician while as for 'the wife' character who was palying a piano part of the piece... well, Tolstoy's wife used to perform Kreutzer Sonata as well (a piano; not a professional musician). It has being said that Tolstoy's deeply fascination with this piece was inspired by her renditions. As for the novel itself, the notion of passion in the context of drama content and Tolstoy's inspiration to express all of it through symbolism of Kreutzer Sonata is a complex topic which include the socio-psychological circumastances considering the historical moment, place and the novel's main character ('the husband' - narrator) including the knowledge of Tolstoy's own life. Sorry, no pretentiousness intented, I just like that novel and find its analysis very interesting 😊 ps. This rendition of Kreutzer Sonata is profoundly sublime and find it intriguing in the best possible way. Bravi, maestri ❤
