Pot cackes - I had my beloved Maddie. She died 3 years ago at 14 years old. Still it break our hearts . Friends named her" the goodness of the earth". Good , intelligent, cleaner than many... people, not a single complain. But... aren't dogs the best in this world?

i am amazed by their responsibility. They can choose to allow dogs to procreate because it gives them business. But they truly want to lessen the suffering of these strays. Beautiful work.
This has taken me back to my childhood in the Bahamas in the sixties before my family returned to England. When I was about four or five I wandered down the rough road from our bungalow to play with one of these dogs and her litter of puppies. The amount of freedom to roam I was given was huge by today's standards.
I was there for a while when suddenly our Bahamian maid was marching down the road towards me gesticulating and shouting at me to get away from that dirty Potcake dog and bringing me back to the house.
It is a vivid memory and since then I have always known that the dog was called something with the word "pot" in the name but I have never been able to remember the rest.
All this time later I have finally found out. Thank you.

My Potcake Simba will be 14yo tomorrow. I brought her back to the states in Nov 07'. She is the craziest dog I've ever owned but I still love her very much!! 💕
and thanks to the humane society who saved them and brought them to the US. They are wicked smart, friendly, swimmers and magnificent companions. I still have mine when I adopted one after the Army 10 years ago. She is still looking young and strong. (story to continue)

These dogs would make tourists go there. So anyone who hurts them is hurting the Caribbean. Don't be like CHINA or Korea. Black people be kind to man's best friends we are more Civilizatied.
What an amazing place ran by amazing people
Okay, I came here for the swimsuit but fell in love with the puppies!
My sister went to the DR in May with her family and fell in love with a young adult stray that glued herself to them the entire time. "Okay sure I'll take her" and they brought her back to Canada to be my new best companion...haha...She turned out to be pregnant so now we have 12, yes 12!!, lovely, healthy, gregarious, Potcake puppies that are 4 weeks old and we will re-home soon to spread the love. Unexpected, but what a wild, wonderful summer.
How does all that work? The papers and importing an animal and all? Especially when traveling?
We adopted an amazing Pot cake!!! Hes an awesome dog! Very loyal but very territorial

My husband and I adopted a potcake! She’s so beautiful, extremely intelligent and very quick to train. I recommend a potcake to anyone who wants a cuddly companion. But beware, their big beautiful eyes suck you in, making you spoil them rotten.
This has also been our experience! Our little 2 month old Potcake puppy is from St Croix and she’s so smart and sweet! Potty training has been a breeze, she rarely whines and loves to play! We just love our little Miss Lola LaCroix! ❤️

These little ones honestly look just like my first dog baby. He was relatively short with the floppy ears and cute dot eyebrows. So smart but also alittle mischevious a really good boy.
My family stayed 17 days in the Bahamas, lubber's quarters, where we rented a house over xmass, A potcake dog moved in and provided entertainment and tour guide. It was great.
I am glad that there is a program like this and the puppies are cute.🐶🐾💙

In Trinidad it's the 'Pot Hound'...one became very famous recently winning competitions after being adopted and taken to the US I believe..these dogs are very smart...very street smart as well,knows how to cross busy roads etc...they are mixed with every breed you can think of...

When I was down at Coral Gardens I saw one hunting flies. Good for him I thought, he was having so much fun and with such an abundance of flies combined with pure survival doggy skill, he was doing quite well.

Seems American Dingo in there as well. Looks like yellow/ red female around 1 minute 15 seconds. Very nice idea and makes for a fun way to experience the island culture.
My daughter and son-in-law adopted a pot cake dog from the Dominican Republic. I was so excited to see you do a video about them. Champion is the most wonderful and intelligent dog I have ever known! Very easy to train and a complete cuddly bear. TY Anneka!! XO Donna

Such a beautiful place to be the sun is shinning and the water is sparkling and the name potcakes is just perfect and the idea to give these puppies a day to be out and socialize with people is wonderful. Those puppies are such cuddle bugs. ❤

I spent several weeks outside of Cockburn Town, Grand Turk Island in the Turks and Caicos. I never saw those puppies.

Glad they are getting them homes. But her history of the breed is very confusing. I was always under the impression PotCake Dogs were the original breed of the carib indians who lived in the Islands before colonization. Take for granted yes European breeds were introduced to the Pot Cake breed with colonization. I think a Pot Cake doggie DNA test is the follow up video 🤗

Seems a fantastic effort to help the pups, but I was wondering if there shouldn't be a greater effort made in an active neutering programme on the island

@@daviddowling9830 Probably because they don't have the money or expertise available locally to do so.
Japan does the same for it's stray cats where it neuters/spays strays and then re-release those that aren't easily adoptable but Japan is a rich, well-educated country.

First time I went to Paradise island in the Bahamas there were a large number of stray dogs and cats. The next time I went was after the Atlantis resort was built and I didn't see any. I'm scared to think about what happened to them.
