    Jimmy, with full respect mate....you are a wizard, a master and an awesome example of how anyone can create anything they want or need.
    You said that when you put your mind to something you end up with multiple options, 3 bandsaws, 2 buildings etc. This is simply you being relaxed in where you are at and what you are doing. I have been watching your videos for about 2-3 years now and I've seen most of the back catalog of what you've been involved in. Throughout I've seen you getting deeper and deeper into your truth and creative space and it's been one of the most brilliant things I've experienced, so much so that I've been inspired to reclaim my makerness. I've got a small 6x8ft shed out the back of my rental home but with thanks to the inspiration from your creativity and mastery every square ft, or meter, as we call it in the down under colony...is now my creator space. My tools are few and far between but I have the basics and a creative hunger.
    Thanks Jimmy, keep it up mate and keep tuning in to your source.
    Peace out,
    Schmo

    All I want to say is that I'm starting a bake shop in the most far place you could imagine, Chile. All of your videos have result so inspiring that somehow everytime I watch'em I renew my passion for what I'm doing, because thats what you give, passion for making. Greetings from the south.

    Hey Jimmy, greetings from down under mate. Thanks for sharing the way you do on these videos. The fact that you are transparent about 'learning stuff' (yeah, we all thought you knew it all :) ) is a powerfully encouraging thing for so many people - 'hey yes i too can go to the hardware store and ask questions, and learn the lingo, and some really cool and empowering stuff too.'
    I'm convinced that you are encouraging a whole new generation of 'makers' mate, good on you.

      Kinda like they used a cookie cutter back in the day, to crank out these buildings. I've found that a lot of modern gas stations from one specific company have identical construction.

    • @DOCDARKNESSREAL
      @DOCDARKNESSREAL 7 лет назад +7

      I bet there are plans for that building style a bit like a particular brand of standardised fast food chains, I wonder if Jimmy could secure the design rights? I foresee DiResta Stations all over North America ;) LOL

    Jimmy, that phenomenon of noticing the gas station is your "reticular activating system" at work. It filters your attention. When you're interested in something new, suddenly that new thing start to pop up in your life everywhere. It's pretty cool.

    I did pottery at knight school with my girlfriend and we loved every bit of it. Keep doing a little more with your electrician, it is so handy to have this skill and it will take you onto other skills like plumbing, plastering and bricklaying. I ended up building my house from scratch I did the plans, dug the trenches (I am not sure what you call them in the USA) did all the stonework roofing and ended up with a six-bedroom house with land and a wood shop. I have not yet mastered the art of horse riding, they seem to know I am not very good and make it harder than it should be (my girlfriend who can ride very well says I look like a sack of potatoes instead of riding the horse)

    The station: Make sure you sign a legal agreement that you are not responsible for the underground gas tanks. The last thing you need is the EPA showing up and holding you responsible for a leaking gasoline ⛽️ tank. Can you even imagine what it costs to remove and remediate underground tanks?

    • @gon2westexas
      @gon2westexas 7 лет назад +6

      Donald Fugitt is correct. The tanks could cost you as much as the property!

    • @Vault57
      @Vault57 7 лет назад +4

      Donald Fugitt confirmed. You don't want to be the one to deal with the UST (underground storage tank) Jimmy. Check on any previous Environmental Site Assessments that may have been performed on the property.

    • @MrClarkisgod
      @MrClarkisgod 7 лет назад +5

      It is possible that they were already removed since I didn't see any pumpworks in the video. But.... you are absolutely right. Nobody wants to spend $20K to dig up and throw old tanks away.

    • @Vault57

      Note to self, when all else fails, read the video description...

    • @ChurchClown7
      @ChurchClown7 7 лет назад +3

      T B :Even then I would obtain a signed document from the owner. If the gas has leaked into local ground water the liability could hang on for years. EPA is Federal and an Ok from the county, well, good luck. 1950's were single shell tanks = leaks.

    Hi Jimmy,
    Long time big fan. We are renovating the building a few doors down from this gas station. It was an old bank, next door to Acra Building Supply. If your in the area, your welcome to stop by, I would like to meet you. We are renovating for a new freestanding Dunkin Donuts. Pouring concrete tomorrow on the inside.

    What you explained at 8:20 that you suddenly have multiple choices, isn't a sign its your mind just looking for something when you keep thinking about it. What I mean is when you need something you unknowing keep an eye for it whenever and wherever possible. Thats why suddenly you feel that its popping up from nowhere.

    I commented on Instagram about that gas station. I DIG IT and it is such a great look on the outside. If you get that place it will be AMAZING. I did not realize all the space it had below too. You could easily fit all the stuff you have in your shop in this place. If y'all decide to buy it, once you finish the shop on the farm and move everything in, this place would make an awesome gallery space. Who knows, it could become a shop to sell awesome pieces that y'all make like Taylor's furniture and leather work or any awesome items you make and decide you want to sell.

Before you plan something with the gas station, plan something to get the mold out completely! mold particles may combine with dust particles in the workshop and may severy damage someone's health! Glad you found the way to get such an unteresting facility, but be aware! some molds are really no good! Good luck!

    I love the gas station idea, Jimmy. Your point at the end about things coming in waves when you start looking at them: I don't know if there's a phrase for it, but I think it comes down to recognition due to interest. It's like when you get a new car or truck. Say you get a new Jeep. You've driven past Jeeps all your life and never paid any attention to them because you weren't interested at the time. It's only when you start seriously looking at them or get one that they start to stand out because you have an interest in one and are paying attention to them. At least it's that way to me.

    Seems like a better idea just to build on your own land. You have so much of it upstate. You can build it all to you own specifications. Plus no more renting.
    Best part of all is the time you don't need to waste traveling to and from work.

      Phil Dog I think traveling to and from work is probably an integral part of how Jimmy operates. He finds cool stuff, gets inspiration, and has time to think. That's just how I imagine it though. It's for these reasons, that I would consider having a shop away from home.

    Wouldn't that be something to be concerned about? Actually renting a building that is in such disrepair and that you have to pay to fix up? And then that would only bring more value to the actual owner of the building. he could end up selling it to somebody else. I would be concerned about that. it would seem more feasible if he would fix it up before he actually rented it it's the landlord's responsibility. I don't know just my opinion :-) it still looks pretty cool though

    Jimmy, When I need precision on the table saw the first thing I do is check my assumptions. I do my checking with a dial indicator and indicator holders designed for specific tasks. An indicator once keyed into the left side miter gauge slot will tell you if your blade is perfectly parallel to the slot. If not it will tell you how many thou you are off + or -. Parallel the fence to the left side miter gauge slot and tweak your miter gauge and you will be able to split the wooden atom repeatedly and well. 90 will be 90 and 45 will be 45. A Unisaw once tweaked will stay proper for a very long time. I aim for parallel to within 1/2 of 1/1000" front to back. Use a good quality new blade specific to the task at hand and Bob's Your Uncle! You can either use a new blade or a dedicated surface plate mounted to the arbor to register your indicator against. These are some simple things you can do without going nuts. When I go nuts I will tear the saw down into parts and then inspect, clean, lube, repair, replace, tweak and tune. (I repair a lot of saws). G.

    @JimmyDiresta: With buying a gas station, you have to be careful of EPA issues! If there is a leaky tank in the ground or oil issues, they costs could become crazy-high. In most cases, they will require the old tank to be removed and disposed of, all at your own cost.

    I honestly hope you can get your hands on one of those gas stations and turn it into your new shop. They both look beautiful in the snow, and quite able to provide a solid base for an astonishing looking workplace! Best of luck!

    Don't know if you're looking at buying the gas station eventually, but don't forget the EPA trap on old places like that. You can get stuck with tens of thousands of dollars of environmental cleanup if the old gas tanks haven't been properly removed.

    That thing you said about seeing something and then multiples show up, it's a phenomenon most people know from their cars. My wife gets a Honda Civic, now I notice Civics. I never noticed them before. Civics are EVERYWHERE but now I notice them.

    Jimmy -
    I'm a fan of all things Mid-Century, and that gas station is COOL. It's like it's just been sitting there waiting for you for 14 years. Please don't change the shape of those windows, or that roofline.

    I love your cats, two things I've always wanted, an old garage-gas station, and an abandoned small town movie theater, you look and sound like a friend of mine who was a mechanic for forty years, his name is Ben, the two of you could be brothers he also is very handy at building furniture and not only fixing things but in some cases improving them, I've subscribed and look forward to watching, I gave up on TV years ago and find better things on RUclips.

    Jimmy, Those gas stations are very retro-cool. I am originally from Berne, NY (lived in Westerlo for awhile too). From your travels to Albany and Troy it seems like your farmhouse isn't very far removed from my old stomping grounds. Love your videos, keep up the good work!

    So funny! Every time you show video of the farmhouse I always say to my self the area looks familiar. When you posted this video of the gas station, I said "that's it! I knew it!"....
    I grew up camping up there every summer. You probably know my cousins they have an auto body shop up there not to far from you. Just found you here on youtube thanks to Izzy Swans video. Love the stuff you make. Thanks for the tips. I'm down in the city. If I didn't have a full time job down here I'd probably be up there building stuff too. My dad live up there now also not to far from you.

    The reason you notice multiples is because of something called your Reticular Activating System. It's a process in our brain that helps us recognize things that are familiar. It's why when you buy a new car, you start seeing that car everywhere, it's what helps us recognize people and what makes us see similarities between objects or people as well.

    That is such a cool place for a shop. The glass alone gives great chartreuse. Might be difficult to fix, but hell there a great video right there. Looking forward to a 20+ part video on you fixing the place up.
