Steve, thanks for taking the time to post the Safety Switch repair video. I repaired mine today and thought I’d share a few ideas.. On the steel switch housing I soaked it in vinegar for about 4 hours to remove the corrosion. For the beryllium bar and contact plate inside, I used a cotton swab with hydrochloric acid tinning solution, then washed thoroughly in water. If the springs are rusted you can find replacements on Ebay, using metric measurements. As Steve pointed out, clamp your fingers on the back when you bend the tabs back so parts don’t come flying out. If all else fails the part number for the 1920 & 2120 are the same. SBA 385-202-900

Thank you sooooo much for this video! I took mine apart, cleaned and re-greased. Though when I checked continuity I realized I needed to turn the pin 180 for it to “beep”. This was odd because when I took it out of the tractor the pin was opposite... maybe wiggling it corroded and dry for so many years flipped it wrong. Anyways, I popped it back in and it started!!! Yay! Also thankful for the part number listed in the comments. I called the local place and they wanted $386 for a new one. Only took me an hour start to finish for some electric cleaner and grease.... see ya later screwdriver jumping!

Been having some issues with mine. I had to move it more into forward to get it to work. Then a few days ago, it wouldn’t work. Didn’t have time to check it out. Later on I figured out that I had to move it more towards forward, pretty close to actually being in gear. Just took it off, cleaned it up, works like new. Just saved over $160. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to post this. I was having a similar problem with the same tractor and found that I had to wiggle the transmission shift lever up and down or left and right a little to get the tractor to start. Your video inspired me to try this. My transmission neutral safety switch is obviously flaky and will likely need the same repair soon.
As an aside, I only have four indicator lights on my tractor (the ones in the four corners in your video; oil pressure, battery, air cleaner, glow plug).

You're welcome! I'm glad this video was useful. Worst you can do is break a switch that needed replacing anyways. BTW, great little tractor!

I’m having a problem with my 1920 not turning over as well..sometimes it does sometimes it doesn’t. I’ll give this a look and see if that’s the problem. Thanks!

You were lucky your dashboard was not one piece. My model is and I can’t get to the switch without removing two shift leavers. What a pain!

Thanks for posting this video. I am sure that this is what is wrong with my tractor. I have gotten the safety switch off and opened up. I've been cleaning but am having no luck loosening the "plunger" part that moves up and down. I can see that it has some corrosion on it that I'm not having much luck with breaking free. Any tips on what you did to get yours clean? The piece will turn albeit with some resistance but will not move up and down. Perhaps if you could let me know what solvents/degreasers/lubricants you used; that would help me as I have no experience in this department. Right now I used a can of carb cleaner and then some wd40 (just stuff my late Dad had on the shelf) as well as some battery terminal cleaner. Anything you'd do different? I've also tapped it some with the hammer but I am worried about beating on it too hard. Thanks for any suggestions you can give me.

Sorry, I do not know. I can't remember if I was able to find one back when I was working on this problem.

I have the 1920 model but you talked about a fuel shut off is that only on gas model? mine is 4 cylinder diesle

    • @stevewatr

Hello. Mine is also a diesel. I mentioned a fuel shut off solenoid. I'm not sure the 1920 has one, but I assume it does, because the only way to stop a diesel is to top the fuel flow, or starve it of air. Stopping air is usually reserved for emergency shut down mechanisms, and I don't believe one exists on these small tractors. Gas engines are easy, shut off the electricity to the ignition system, and it stops. Thanks for watching the video, and thanks for commenting.

Hi, I have the 2120 model but the switch is exactly the same. I did try to repair it but it did not work. I am going to replace it but am having a hard time locating a new one. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, great video. Very clear and descriptive.

I've had no luck finding one online/after market. You'll probably be at the will of a New Holland dealer. Bet that switch is over priced. If you get a NH Ford part number, post it here. Might help others in the future.

got tired of problems with mine and I just jumped it.

+deme7063 Not a good option for me because I often like to start my tractor while standing next to it, and if it were in gear, it might run me or one of the kids over.

Steve Watroba very true, and like I tell everyone about mine, "it'll chew you up and spit you out and not care one little bit!" I'm just saying that my new OEM safety switch didn't last 1 season , so I jumped it.
