      @Jyothi Sithara the first is in present perfect and asks about your feeling from the start of the year, until now. It’s an unlikely question. The second is in present simple and is asking about how you feel now. The latter is more fluent and works better for real-life contexts.

    Emma, you definitely opened a new gate of knowledge on my brain. I'd never ever heard that past participle of "to go" were "gone" and "been" from any instructor.
    And the way you explain it,...wow!!!
    You're fabulous!!!
    I've always used "I've already/never been to a place.", but I couldn't see no sense in the usage of "been". And now everything makes sense.
    You've just set me free, Emma. And I'm thankful for that.
    Cheers

    • @mmmEnglish_Emma
      @mmmEnglish_Emma  6 лет назад +5

      I'm pleased that I helped it to be clearer for you, Claudio! Although, to be honest, my explanation was not perfect - it's wrong to say that 'been' is a past participle form of 'to go'. I meant to say that the meaning is similar and it can be useful to THINK of 'been' as an alternative past participle of 'go' (I think it makes it simpler to understand!) but grammatically, 'gone' has only one past participle form.
      I'm glad to hear that the lesson helped you to understand the difference!

    • @lacerdamaritimo
      @lacerdamaritimo 6 лет назад

      Emma, thanks for the information, but the way you've put it was perfect indeed.
      You thoutht out of the box, you went beyond. And I believe that students who used to have that uncomfortable sensation when using "I've been to somewhere else", for instance, like I myself used to have, they now have the right sense of such structure, as the rules listened in other times didn't work.
      Please don't touch that lesson. Don't try to repair it. It's been one of my favorite.
      💓

      It is true that 'be' has only one past participle, that is 'been'. But 'They have been to the supermarket.' In this sentence 'been' is used as the past participle of 'go', not the past participle of 'be'. So you are right. Don't worry about it.

    Dear Emma,
    I usually love your explanations, and as an EFL teacher, often share them with my students. However, it is just WRONG to say that the past participle of "go" can be "been". It can NOT. It is a different verb which, when used this way, has the same MEANING as "gone". But it is NOT the past participle of "GO".

    • @mmmEnglish_Emma
      @mmmEnglish_Emma  6 лет назад +8

      Sorry to disappoint you, Adele. I've just reviewed the section you are talking about and you're absolutely right - I meant to explain that the meaning is similar and it can be useful to THINK of 'been' as an alternative past participle of 'go' (this has been the missing link for my students in the past and has helped reduce confusion around usage and meaning) Grammatically, 'go' has only one past participle form and I failed to make that clear. Thanks for raising this issue :)

      Don't worry. You are right, I think. '𝐁𝐞𝐞𝐧 (to)' indicates the verb '𝐠𝐨', (NOT 'be') though 'been' is the past participle of 'be'. I have 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 to London. Here 'been' is used as the past participle of 'go'. You have explained in this way to make the students understand better. Have a nice time.

      Can you explain

    • @michael_davis2436
      @michael_davis2436 6 лет назад +3

      Sandra Escofet Sorry but the correct answer is BEEN not gone. You two are wrong and your teacher was right. If you didn't add "all morning" we could say "It has gone" or "It has gone somewhere" but in this case we would say "It has been outside all morning" because we do not say "I go outside all day". It's incorrect. We do say "I've been outside all day" though. It's just correct to use to be verb. It's inappropriate to claim that past participle can be either been and gone, it cannot. All the English verbs has one (sometimes two) form in past participle and it comes from the verb. Learn - learned - learned or learn - learnt - learnt but it still comes from the basic verb. Be - was/were - been, go - went - gone. And you cannot mix them as if been and gone were the same. They're not. They just sometimes have the same meaning but the usage of the two clearly differentiates. A teacher has already said that in the comment but I just wanted to make sure you guys won't duplicate that mistake. Btw, I'm Tifanny, just using my brother's account. Cheers ;)
