I remember trading my friends for their foil lands in Nemesis block. They thought they were getting great trades, they didn't want the lands. Then I started showing up to play with all my decks sleeved up with all foil lands. They traded more to get some back after that!
From the way that CED and CEI are being accepted into Old School formats and possibly eventually in other formats. I can see the other gold bordered cards following the same suit as the average player gets priced out from the FoW etc cards.
Dont know if you'll read this, but imo it is worth noting that the supply of the CE and ICE high end type cards and power 9 are def more scarce than the majority or common/uncommon in the set because people weren't/aren't rushing to try and reback the lower end older cards.
Nice collection, but a big oof on that first page😬 I was wondering why anyone would use a binder like this for valuable cards, but Rudy addressed this near the end of the video. That must be one heck of a bank vault!
This is why I only use 5-star school binders. They zip up. The rings don't rest on the cards when its closed. And there are mesh pockets to use oxygen absorbers and sleeves and top loaders.
Step 1. Rudy buying up CE/ICE and constantly saying how he's not a fan of it, never selling these cards. Step 2. Rudy selling tons of sealed boxes, making tons of videos saying how great they are. Step 3 - PROFIT.
The page doesn't get all the way flipped and lays over the rings. When you close it under that condition, if there is any pressure put on the outside it will press the rings into the cards. Good question. I sleeve all my cards and store them in boxes rather than binders. It may be harder to edit, but my cards stay minty
Rudy, I don't play Magic, but find myself watching every one of your videos... not sure what it is, but I always look forward to the next one. Happy Friday, my friend!
Hey Rudy, in regards to the cards being damaged you mentioned it could have been avoided. What could have been done besides not putting the most valuable cards right beside the binder rings?
That damage happens from closing the binder without putting all of the pages back to the right side first. So you're flipping through the pages and close the binder with pages laid out on both sides. But when you do that one or two of the top pages will get caught at the top of the binder rings. And then the binder will squish the stuck page into the top of the binder ring and leave those dents you saw in the video.
It's how it is ij my collections too. Doesn't matter what random page I open it's almost always an expensive card that's damaged. I inavertingly damaged a card moving it around in my pocket page of the binder with my nail trying to push it and even it out rather than just take it out and put it back in.. huge knick
Can someone explain how the ring ever touches the card to cause damage? You close the binder, when does the card or page ever get pressed on by the rings?
I dropped a binder down the stairs when I was 16. Popped a hole in a beta sapphire. I scotch tapped it if anyone has if. Left side of card about 2/3rd up the side
Why do you remove all cards from sleeves when you're intaking a new collection? I've never understood that. Is most the collections unsleeved and in card boxes? Either standard white lgs boxes or wizards og boxes?
Thing is, if you can get a rare card, but cheaper and with that sweet black border, it wont matter too much if its CE or ICE. Especially because those cards are old and they are harder to find in Mint shape. BOOOM!
we like your vids Rudy. opened a box of 2021 with my lady, and we laugh every time we got a hot dog. Yo. don't waste that plastic brah. did you say you toss out those old binder pages? I get it about keeping the cards crispy. but if those pages are reusable give them to noob collectors of any cards for next to nothing. Come on man don't you live in an ocean state. You go to events mane, and hopefully keep going...throw em in a free bin. p.s. i would pay a door fee to watch you the PROF battle it out at the bar in the back of MOX boarding house, here in Seattle, Or lets get you on command zone , hell that would be boss.
They're not legal for tournament play, but most commander groups don't care if you use them. I've seen SCG Commander on Demand pods running them *for prizes* and no one said shit about it.
How does a collector have this great of a collection of power/vintage cards and then ends up denting a 2000$ black lotus, a 400$ Mox Pearl and a 100$ Gauntlet of Might? I know it was from the binder rings and all that but yeah.....if I owned those cards they would not just sit in a binder like that. I would double sleeve them and then store them in a safe with 3 foot thick stainless steel walls!!!
Because CE was for the longest time worthless and illegal in tournaments. Even now, a CE lotus is worth quite little compared to the real thing. A beat-up, creased and filthy unlimited white border lotus is still easily worth twice the value of a nm CE lotus...
Circle ring binders are murder. D-Ring with protective flaps or nothing. 1 1/2 inch binder with forty double-sided pages (or thirty for foils)? Card heaven.
Hi I'm Timmy. I bought this set without even looking at it. It looks like it's complete. I see all 10 dual lands, so it must be complete. Oh, and look at this lotus its damaged, I way over payed. Oh well it is what it is. LMFAO
+1 for Terese and the "can't be acknowledged ban club" "Is that a banned card or just a meme" -If you can't tell, *it wasn't that offensive to begin with*
Everytime i watch the vids that have CE reprints it makes me so sad at how WotC handled the early reprint sets by changing things on the BACKS of the cards instead of on the front...
Rudy you keep saying that "commons" and "rares" have the same rarity in CE/ICE, but of course the demand is way different. I think higher prices for P9s are justified. What do you want to point out with what you say?
It's also to get it into peoples heads the actual rarity of every single card. Those 'commons' such as a Merfolk of the pearl trident, are more rare than an ALPHA common. Seems crazy, but its true. The rarest official printing of oldschool basic cards are these colllectors edition/internation edition prints. Currently the demand for those commons is not there, but i'm certain in the future, people will be all over the 'commons' too.
His reputation says something vastly different, lol. The reason he didn't check it is probably because the collection was so big that it really didn't matter (even a CE Lotus) if a couple of cards weren't in the exact condition as he thought.
Funny that Rudy talks about binder dings when he's flipping all the pages on the rings himself. Overpaid for a wholesaler perhaps. Probably a great deal as a collector.
So for the people who Rudy is supposedly referring to. Is this true? After all of the videos Rudy has done where he has talked about CE/ICE, you guys are really constantly asking for him to talk more about it? Tiny detail I guess but I just can't imagine that people are actually doing that.
You throw the binder pages away?? What a waste! Just ship them to your patrons for 1 cent each plus shipping, and buy more with that money. Reuse!! Profit!!
Buy a Black Lotus and after the fact notice a binder ding that you did not factor into the price that you paid for the card: Me: "Welp, there goes my life savings and the entire reason I collect Magic cards.... I want to shoot myself" Rudy: "Hmm, shucks, my bad ... oh well the other two dozen Black Lotus I have are nicer, no biggie"
"Nobody puts Lotus in the corner" -Patrick Swayze
I just love that vintage art style.
" not a big fan of collectors edition..... I got 12 complete sets of it".....
-Rudy the ,"not big fan"
The most expensive card I own is like $120? I just can’t imagine owning a card worth thousands and not doing more to protect it.
I know right. How do you own a black lotus/power 9, and put it in a binder on the first page.
Its called 1994
I used to play my lotus in penny sleeves. It was only worth $300 back then though.
CED and CEI was not something that people wanted back in the day.
I mean, it's collector's edition, which was worthless for a long time and even then a CE lotus isn't worth 'thousands' (it's like 1800).
Seeing the dent and the crease on the Lotus made me so sad... :(
in that case don't watch "will it blend? black lotus"
*Spends thousands of dollars on cards*
*doesn't put them in a high-quality zipper binder*
painful to watch.. can get a beautiful smooth binder for just 30 bucks. VaultX binders are nice
Zarod89 exactly. Z-Folio XL is quality too.
Are the ultra pro binders good? I know I could research it more but hell I'm here already.
Probably because it is a 25 year old collection. I know back when I started I used 3 rings and pages like them.
Ethan I just got 2 very nice zipper binders for 24.99 each from Card Guardian on Amazon. They’re great imo
I can remember when Collector's Edition and foils were looked down upon with disdain.
I remember trading my friends for their foil lands in Nemesis block. They thought they were getting great trades, they didn't want the lands. Then I started showing up to play with all my decks sleeved up with all foil lands. They traded more to get some back after that!
I was around when Collector's was a thing, and we wanted nothing to do with it!
I remember turning my nose up at the CE and the reprinted MTG winners decks when came they came out, Now I just want drown my sorrows with taco sauce!
I love watching these vids of old collections thanks for always posting them
Rudy, you are on fire with your collection videos! Thank you, you have no idea how much I love watching these! You make my day when you do these
Should donate all the binders, sleeves, and pages that you end up throwing out to your local gaming clubs, they would probably appreciate it.
Love seeing these vintage collections.
Nice collection, but a big oof on that first page😬 I was wondering why anyone would use a binder like this for valuable cards, but Rudy addressed this near the end of the video. That must be one heck of a bank vault!
Man the amount of content is impressive. Youre very good at the RUclips
As Rudy discusses the binder, he badly dings all the way through 🤔 made me chuckle every time you threw those cards about buddy. 😎
I thought I was the only one who stored binders that way! I put them like that and into bankers boxes for ease of movement
Rudy, thank you for aknowledging the value and future of the ce/ice cards. As a collector of these sets, I am holding them tight for the years ahead.
This is why I only use 5-star school binders. They zip up. The rings don't rest on the cards when its closed. And there are mesh pockets to use oxygen absorbers and sleeves and top loaders.
Back when a collector's edition was a complete set lol
I wish I had a crappy condition Lotus, lol.
Terese Nielsen playmat 🥰
I learnt that time ago and now i sleeve them even in the binder
Step 1. Rudy buying up CE/ICE and constantly saying how he's not a fan of it, never selling these cards.
Step 2. Rudy selling tons of sealed boxes, making tons of videos saying how great they are.
Step 3 - PROFIT.
@ 1:12 Uh oh, Rudy! WotC is coming after you for showing us "that" card! Our sensitive eyes can't tolerate it.
I still don't understand how the D ring binders are able to cause those dents on cards.
Yo, u r the best RUclips ever mam
It’s the Rudy aura.. I don’t collect or play Mtg and yet, here I am watching again.
How do the binder dings occur? What position does the binder need to be in for the ring to press against the cards?
When the cards push against the rings, usually only happens to the first couple pages.
Never thought that something like that can happen, but damn why all of the cards the most important ones have been damaged.
Bought a collectors edition opened for 400 bucks in 2009...
Last time I was this early, my wife left me.
I dropped a binder down the stairs when I was 16. Popped a hole in a beta sapphire. I scotch tapped it if anyone has if. Left side of card about 2/3rd up the side
I'm sure if you speak to Beyond The Press channel they can get the cards flat again?
So what causes the binder dents? If you're careful with flipping and storing vertical can it still happen?
Can the dented cards be pressed? I didn’t see and color breakage.
It helps if you don't have the binder ring protector on backwards.
helps most if you know those arent "protectors" at all ;)
Why do you remove all cards from sleeves when you're intaking a new collection? I've never understood that. Is most the collections unsleeved and in card boxes? Either standard white lgs boxes or wizards og boxes?
Thing is, if you can get a rare card, but cheaper and with that sweet black border, it wont matter too much if its CE or ICE. Especially because those cards are old and they are harder to find in Mint shape. BOOOM!
I don't use any ringed binders too many dinged cards. I prefer the built in pages
You might be able to repair the dents with a roller device or weight.
we like your vids Rudy. opened a box of 2021 with my lady, and we laugh every time we got a hot dog. Yo. don't waste that plastic brah. did you say you toss out those old binder pages? Fragile cards are good to have...if u have a nice one that's a rare thing
Are gold border cards worth anything? We literally used to throw these out the windows at cars driving by
They're not legal for tournament play, but most commander groups don't care if you use them. I've seen SCG Commander on Demand pods running them *for prizes* and no one said shit about it.
LordMajicus i think there are tournaments in Canada, which openly allow IC and CE cards.
Circle ring binders are murder. D-Ring with protective flaps or nothing. 1 1/2 inch binder with forty double-sided pages (or thirty for foils)? Card heaven.
Can you give us a round about idea what this cost ?
Hi I'm Timmy. I bought this set without even looking at it. It looks like it's complete. I see all 10 dual lands, so it must be complete. Oh, and look at this lotus its damaged, I way over payed. Oh well it is what it is. LMFAO
"Binder" damage....
Well rudy if you didnt throw around the cards and the boxes.
Karma
Don't damage the old cards but go to town on the new ones?
The collectors edition set is now over 60k in one years time. This is getting ridiculous
yeah, proxies ... thats what those are.
Ohhhh those poor Mox Pearl
2:30 Good thing they're gold boarded cards.
Good thing you can't spell "bordered".
Why are card binders still a thing if they damage cards? Surely someone could come up with a solution?
Taco supreme lotus yay
i suppose im in the minority, but i dont care if its a 90 degree corner or gold boardered, in casual play they still work the same
I’m a complete set collector, though I prefer original Zendikar and Scars era over the new stuff.
I Learned this lesson in 1995 to bad folks learning it in 2020
@3:00
When you ordered the Chalupa but clearly wanted the Gordita.
At least there’s cinnamon twists & a Baja Blast
Cinnamon Twists suck...
Mexi-nuggets were far and away the better side for a Taco meal.
theBigMan ofAK
Lol they do suck but...
Whatchyou know about the classic, discontinued, Bell Burger?
Busta deal, face the wheel.
Yup, probably a complete set..
Probably a complete set...
Yup, probably a complete set..
Probably a complete set.
Confirmed: Rudy prefers free balling.
Less chance of pinching.
why don't you just use card sleeve binders without rings?
Sees lotus... 😫😥 that hurts
30 binders!? How big of a collection was this?
Nice
How the f do you overpay for an already binder dinged card?
+1 for Terese and the "can't be acknowledged ban club"
"Is that a banned card or just a meme" -If you can't tell, *it wasn't that offensive to begin with*
Ughhh....at least put the power nine in the middle slots people!!!
I wonder how many old time mtg players have power 9 in their closets not knowing the current value?
0
ton of proxies
I think you paid me $7k 2 years ago for my sealed domestic collectors edition box :)
Probably a fair price two years ago.
Everytime i watch the vids that have CE reprints it makes me so sad at how WotC handled the early reprint sets by changing things on the BACKS of the cards instead of on the front...
Rudy got hosed on a lotus
Flextape can't fix that
it probably woulda been fine if he left a blank page "spacer" in the front. What a shame.
also, why aren't they all in perfect fits inside the binder sleeves?
Rudy you keep saying that "commons" and "rares" have the same rarity in CE/ICE, but of course the demand is way different.
I think higher prices for P9s are justified. What do you want to point out with what you say?
Maybe that the printrun for a ICE Lotus and ICE Bolt is the same?
It's also to get it into peoples heads the actual rarity of every single card. Those 'commons' such as a Merfolk of the pearl trident, are more rare than an ALPHA common. Seems crazy, but its true. The rarest official printing of oldschool basic cards are these colllectors edition/internation edition prints. Currently the demand for those commons is not there, but i'm certain in the future, people will be all over the 'commons' too.
Hahahahahaha good one Rudy
Rudy is just a Timmy like the rest of us overpaying like some taco casual
His reputation says something vastly different, lol. The reason he didn't check it is probably because the collection was so big that it really didn't matter (even a CE Lotus) if a couple of cards weren't in the exact condition as he thought.
@@Frankje01 he says it repeatedly that he overpayed and that's just one of those things that happens in this 'game', even to Rudy.
Yahwehs Blue boy
YHWH bless you and your loved ones Blue Boy, even so your enemies and May you have a chill weekend.
Floppy Taco Friday
Does Rudy own a black lotus?
Lolll deal it’s a deal remember rudy your average offer is like 20 cents on a dollar you can’t complain
Sliver Queen proof, who has one?
I don't even own any ring binders for the reasons you see in this video
Holy crap, the video's been up for 7 whole minutes and Broken Games isn't here spamming replies about how "MTG is a scam in plain sight"! Did he die??
Funny that Rudy talks about binder dings when he's flipping all the pages on the rings himself. Overpaid for a wholesaler perhaps. Probably a great deal as a collector.
For some reason the silent majority is letting the laud minority that is not even involved in these hobbies dictate things.
Library is power 10 Rudy TV is 11 lol
Collectors Edition 😒😒
So for the people who Rudy is supposedly referring to. Is this true? After all of the videos Rudy has done where he has talked about CE/ICE, you guys are really constantly asking for him to talk more about it?
Tiny detail I guess but I just can't imagine that people are actually doing that.
Not a fan of ice and ce,but they are cool,i'll never buy them tho
You throw the binder pages away?? What a waste! Just ship them to your patrons for 1 cent each plus shipping, and buy more with that money. Reuse!! Profit!!
NEVER use binders like these. Use binders with small round rings that can not clip cards.
Buy a Black Lotus and after the fact notice a binder ding that you did not factor into the price that you paid for the card:
Me: "Welp, there goes my life savings and the entire reason I collect Magic cards.... I want to shoot myself"
Rudy: "Hmm, shucks, my bad ... oh well the other two dozen Black Lotus I have are nicer, no biggie"
clickbait! not even 'real' cards :(
They were printed by wotc in the same just like alpha beta, they just aren't tournament legal card stock
You ever consider using gloves? Seems really odd that you don't.
Ok wait. So you're telling me. That these little card doohickey things ya got here are worth money and gonna be worth MORE? WHAT IN TARNATION.
Mmmmm I came so early
*blushes*
That's what your BF complains about...
