    This 1980 Datsun (Nissan) 280ZX just arrived to The Barn Miami as new inventory. Why did we buy this 280zx? Well for starters it has 29K original miles. It's the more desirable 2 seater (not 2+2), it's 100% stock and VERY original. In fact, it's been serviced at the dealer most of its life till recently. Yes, it does have the least desirable automatic transmission, but we understand that could be a favorable situation for certain buyers. Additionally as better condition cars become harder to find on high production cars, we are more forgiving on circumstances like the transmission. We focus on the condition. The opposite is true for very rare cars - at that point the condition can be sacrificed.
    This car is offered with original bill of sale and service records. See link below for ad.
    History on the Datsun/Nissan 280zx:
    The Nissan S130 is a sports coupé produced by Nissan in Japan from 1978 to 1983. It was sold as the Datsun 280ZX, Nissan Fairlady Z and Nissan Fairlady 280Z, depending on the market. In Japan, it was exclusive to Nissan Bluebird Store locations. It was the second generation Z-car, replacing the Nissan S30 in late 1978. The 280ZX was the first time the "by Nissan" subscript was badged alongside the Datsun logo, along with Nissan trucks. The 280ZX was Motor Trend's import car of the year for 1979. The 280ZX was replaced by the Nissan 300ZX in 1984.If you enjoyed this video, please like, share and subscribe! We look forward to bringing you more reviews on exclusive cars.
    The 280ZX was a complete redesign, retaining only the L28 inline-six engine and other driveline components from the 280Z. Both two-seat and four-seat (2+2) designs were offered. Compared to the more overtly sporting earlier models, the 280ZX was a much softer, heavier car, with less focus on driving and more on driver comfort and refinement.[1] Softer suspension, better sound insulation, more comfortable seats, and ample equipment including high-end audio systems defined the new ZX. In the spirit of the times, emissions controls and aerodynamics were markedly improved over the first generation Z-cars, while weight was down somewhat as long as the buyer did not pick much from the very long options list.[2] The exterior design was evolutionary, less rounded and with better integrated safety bumpers. Many parts, including the rear-axle and the power steering came from the Datsun 810 luxury sedan.[2] Most of the design effort went into the entirely different and much more modern interior.[3] The car became a grand tourer rather than a sports car, particularly in the plush Grand Luxury versions.
    The 280ZX adopted suspension similar to that of the concurrent Bluebird 910, with MacPherson struts in front and semi-trailing arm independent suspension in the rear. The wheelbase was up from its predecessor (90.7 in or 2,304 mm) to 91.3 in (2,319 mm) for the two-seater.
    The 280ZX's body was redesigned with aerodynamics in mind. By closing in the open grille of the first generation Z-car and through other improvements taken from wind-tunnel testing, the drag coefficient was reduced from 0.467 to 0.385, and the lift coefficient from 0.41 to 0.14. The new design had a lower center-of-gravity and nearly 50/50 weight distribution in both the two-seater and 2+2 designs. The rear of the car was stretched to accommodate a larger 80 L (21.133 US liquid gallons) fuel tank. Overall, the new body design gave better fuel economy and high-speed stability (one of the known issues from the first generation Z-car).
    Steering was changed: The 280ZX initially offered either unassisted rack-and-pinion steering or a Datsun 810-derived recirculating-ball with power assistance. Neither came in for much appreciation in period road tests.[3] A new power-assisted rack-and-pinion replaced the recirculating-ball steering system for the 1981 turbo, becoming available on the naturally aspirated models the following year. This car was gorgeous! I had one restored in the mid 90s and people would stop me to comment on how beautiful it was. Didn't replace the identifiers saying "Datsun 280zx" so people would ask what kind of car it was because they had never seen one. I wish it was faster off the line. Loved cruising on highways in it!

    I was the biggest Z and ZX fan...grew up with these cars in the family...We owned five ZXs and Zs.....and the one thing that stood out was reliability...the bullet proof L28 ...solid - - - the only thing and the big problem was that squatting when you accelerated. lol ...but in the day when guys were running around with 5.0s and Z28s, Vettes and what not....Turbo ZX's were taking care of business....I don't care what anyone says....Skylines may be legendary in Japan ...which is great, but these ZXs (in the hands of real deal car guys)...could perform like no other car. I had a 4-speed 1975 280Z with very minimal mods...and back in 1986-87 I'd be keeping up with all the new Vettes, beating the shit outta Mustangs, Z-28s and RX-7s....

    Yes yes yes! A stellar original car where most rusted away! Amazing find! Anyone that buys this will get instant cred for a low price point entry! We need more of these cars out in the scene! So what's with the 911 on the lower left corner ;)

    Because it’s a Datsun Z. Worth saving. New owner could swap to a 5sp manual if they wanted, so not a problem. Relaxes the revs of the L6 on long cruises. Nice wheels.

    I have a 1980 base model. My uncle bought it new in feb 1980. Has 81k on it. No power windows/locks/or steering. I'd have no problems passing up that car. It's super clean, but I'd have to do a 5 speed swap. I'd rather do a swap on a higher mileage car.

    • @GastonRossato
      @GastonRossato  4 года назад

      Sounds like an awesome car. 5 speed is definitely more desirable in general, but there is always someone looking for an automatic. The person that bought this car specifically wanted an automatic due to a bad knee.

    I'm thinking of buying one as a project car, and this influenced the fact of how great it would be to own as it's a lot cheaper than the 280z but in my opinion is as good

      One of the best Zs..... you can buy it now and still make more money after 3 years of ownership..... they are gone up at price if you find one in a good condition rust shouldn't be an issue

      Yes, production began in 1978 for the 1979 model year. The 1980, I believe has a different ECU giving it a few more horsepower than the previous year. Of course, 1980 saw the introduction of the turbo charged version.

    Automatic is better for cruising. You don't want to cruise with a stick. It depends what you want the car for though.
