I test drove a 280ZX in the late 80s when my grandmother and I were looking for my first car. I didn't get it because I felt like I needed a 4 seater (it wasn't a 2+2) to carry friends around. I'm still kicking myself that I didn't buy that car but the truth is that the Accord I got did help me carry friends around all the way through college. BTW anybody ever told you that your voice is a lot like actor Brian Posehn?
Awesome... thanks for the great work! I had an 83 280ZX Turbo.... what a machine! She was a 2+2 - with half a backseat 🤣 ... I had a close friend with one of those ragtops, too. It was a 65 model year, I think... deffo a fun driver! Three tiny carbs... if I remember correctly ... Always loved Datsun/Nissan... also had a 77 F10, an 84 200SX and a Pulsar (not proud of this one but full disclosure)... so many great memories with fun cars and amazing old friends from the 1970's and 1980's.... good times. Apologies for the waffling... Edit... laughing out loud at the "a sports car that will start every day was kind of a big deal".... and bloody true! I was also the proud owner of an MGB, a Spitfire and a TR7.... and starting every day was not what they were all about...🤣🤣🤣 fun, fun cars to drive, though.
Hey I'm glad you enjoyed it! Huge Z fan personally, and I liked how my Z vids came out...Even the sequel 😉 I'm a fan of small sports cars too and have a 21 MX5 RF with a 6 speed.
I bought new 1981 280 ZX blue and silver with T-tops. I still have it with 28 K miles. I also bought the 1984 300ZX Black with T-Tops. I sold it unfortunately.
this was very educational. I am hoping to buy a 240z in rough shape and restore it (wouldn't we all? lol) This was insightful on what is what among the Z's. Thank you, subbed!!
Thank you! I'm happy you enjoyed it! I've always loved Zs! My RF Miata reminds me of the earlier Zs I owned. Best of luck for your search. Find one with the least amount of rust you can!
I remember back in the late 90's/early 00's I would see s30's out on the road semi-frequently, nowadays the only one on the road I see is my own. I got my license in 2003, started buying my own Z/ZX's. I bought multiple 280s and 260s before for less than a grand, running and driving! Those days are definitely long gone.. Looking at the marketplace now the only ones I can find for less than $1000 are complete rust bucket rolling chassis.
@WEBO I loved my Datsun Zs...But after years of no Zs and I had the opportunity to buy a NEW one I could afford? Had to do it LOL. I enjoyed that 350z too.Im of the opinion that the 350z came closest to the 240z in terms of price versus performance. All the other ones in between got expensive. Don't see many z fans who didnt care for Z32s. I wanted one so bad but they were too expensive. I liked my 82 Turbo more than the 85 300zx I had.
The one in Europe had higher compression I think and they made the 260z longer. It was just made for 74 here. The emissions friendly carburetors kinda sucked too. I put 240z ones on mine then. Wasn't uncommon for European versions of cars we got having better performance then too.
does anyone know what carbs the Euro 260Z had? I know at least some of the Australian version of the 260Z had the (awful) flat-top Hitachi carbs and (also being heavier) wasn't quite as quick as the 240Z.

The rock guy from Big Bang Theory? No, your the first to say I sound like him!

@@autochatter Hey... the closer my ass is to the ground at 120 kph... the happier I am. 😎
I just bought a 280z for 3k. I can't wait to start the restoration on it
Awesome! Rust is the hard part.
I just bought a 81 280zx and I can’t wait to get it cruisin
Sweet! As long as the rust is minimal, your good to go.
That was really cool and obviously a ton of work went into it.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you!

I used to call those the Dallas Cowboy Zs! Love that two tone paints on Zxs
It was a good video to watch. I'm a long time Z fan. I've owned several 280ZX, a couple 280Z, and one 1970 Fairlady Z.
@@bleachgarage Thank you! I've owned 7 from a 71 240z up to a 03 350z.

@BanyanBirb Yep..I mentioned that in part II.
This video is great!

My story is similar except I started buying them used about a half decade before.
GREAT info
Thank you! Long time Z fan.
@@autochatter Cool, I have a 1983 280zx. Surprised you sold an old Z for a new one. Everything after 1989 isn't a Z anymore. But again, good info

@J T Actually I missed a couple. A 89 Buick Lesabre and a 00 Daewoo Laganza
I just bought a datsun 280zx t top turbo for 8500€, the interior is in rough shape but i think its a great investment
As long as she's free of rust it should be!
12:20 "Not counting exotics". Even more sad when it was just one, ONE exotic was faster and that was the porsche 911.
LOL...Malise era was somthing! I'm betting the Datsun was quicker than a regular 911 then...Had to go turbo to beat it.
I have three z cars. Best car ever made.
Sweet! I miss mine.
The best 280zx os the 83'europeaan version the Last it 200hp and dont sale in the states
Yeah..There was some European cars then that had more power than the versions we got too.
In the europe the 260z have 163 HP 🙂but in the states dont have much power🙁

'scuse the F outa me, but the ZX is NOT a Z car. It's a bloated pig in comparison. Sorry kids. You had to have been there....
LOL...I think I made mention of it being more of a GT car by then.
