The entire Joshua Tree album is incredible. I remember when they filmed this in LA back in the day. Live downtown with huge crowd.
Achtung Baby isn't bad either!!! 😉
U2 were so out front in the 80s, Bono and The Edge were superstars. This was a big deal.
Still are superstars man!!!
Id put queen in the same boat
Nah you really left out Larry Mullen Jr. And Adam Clayton?
No cell phones, no selfies - just enjoying the moment, hearing brilliant music by an iconic band 💗
Lol, there were definitely cameras there.
@@sexysadie2901 I think what he or she is saying is that the general public did not walk around with cameras for the most part, and cell phones and social media weren't even a thing yet. When we used to go to concerts, we were just there in the moment, not concerned with sharing it on twitter or such. Though I would hope the youngsters nowadays have the good sense to put their phones away when they get the chance to hear a good band live. If any of us ever again get to hear live music again.
@@unclisa and if social media and smartphones were around at that time, people definitely would be filming and posting. Stop acting like you're so much better than the youth of today, you'd be right along with them at that time. I don't know why filming it is "not being in the moment", the whole point is about capturing the moment and looking back. I don't film a whole concert, but I like filming clips.
First Huey now U2 you're just hammering the 80's heavyweights. Absolutely cannot go wrong with any song off the Joshua Tree. Well done Sir👍
Rock on!
Huey Lewis was not a heavy weight
@@allensaunders449 If you check album sales they are near the top for the decade
@@paulobrien9572 i was talking about talent. Lightweight there
@@allensaunders449 I beg to differ saw them live twice they kicked ass
“Pride” in the name of Love... “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” “New Year’s Day” “Gloria”
Oh yeah, definitely make "Pride in the Name of Love" your next U2 song.
@@ChrisOliver4307 Gloria if it's the Under a Blood Red Sky version
Yes, Gloria! Original video release.
"Gloria" is great, too, no doubt
Thumps up babe xx 💋
I wasn't there, but my brother is somewhere in the crowd. I've never found him in the video, but we do have pictures of him and two of his friends there.
I roadied for U2 ahead of their "Zooropa" tour in Hersey, PA. 10 days of stage, sound & lighting load ins and outs (3 complete stages) including practice, rehearsals and a ticketed dress rehearsal where they gave everyone on the local crew 10 free tix to hand out to friends & family for a full show the night before the tour started. Around 1991.
Best live show i have ever seen
91 - 93 is zoo tv tour. Although they did release the zooropa album in 93
Zooropa Tour wasn't in NZ till 93 though!
That’s an awesome story
I saw them in cardiff zooropa tour.
U2 did this 'roof performance' as a tribute to The Beatles and their similiar concert in London in 1969.
The Joshua Tree ... absolutely epic album and definite highlight of my freshman year in college. 1987 -- what a great time to be alive!
Yes u are right! They expected a rowdy crowd and was not! I lived in LA at the time and couldn't get down there, were re routing traffic but saw on the news that night and thought it was BRILLIANT!♥️👍😁
U2 played an impromptu gig at Halliburton Plaza on the Embarcaderos in San Francisco many years ago. Everyone was having a great time enjoying seeing the group, enjoying the music and the weather. SFPD weren’t as uptight as the LAPD.
Bono has been known for his humanitarian and philanthropic activities.
BONO has been made of fun for his insufferable views.
Bono is a great person
U2 music was very good. Unfortunately, their ticket prices were ridiculous. So Bono’s views were somewhat counter productive.
@@Nittany100 Their ticket prices are set by the promoter. LiveNation is an awful company - tbey inflate everyone
@@haroldlipschitz9301 Yeah LiveNation charged 250 for nosebleed seats for when i saw Ed Sheeran with my ex gf at the time and when i saw Queen+Adam Lambert. It has nothing to do with the Artist. Literally $50 of that 250 was "service fees"
Concerts of u2 are life changing.
The intro to this song - the long gradual build up of delayed guitars and then the drums coming in is one of the greatest intros to a song ever imo. You don't really hear it properly in this version though.
Yes! And it was the first song they played live on the Joshua Tree tour. The build up was incredible and when Bono started singing the crowd exploded. Great memory.
It’s VERY near if not at the top of the ‘best intro’ list.. Sweet Child O Mine.. Ants Marching.. Dream On..
Agreed 🎸🎸
I lived and breathed U2 in 1987. Incredible band that I am still fans of. I saw them in concert with Muse opening up for them about 10yrs ago - amazing!!
u2 SHUT LOS ANGELES DOWN .......ONE OF THE MOST EPIC LIVE PERFORMANCES EVER IN ROCK HISTORY!!! MAN WHAT A TIME THE 80S WERE")
20 years old in 1980 in LA. The Whiskey A Go Go. the Roxy, the troubadour and the Golden Bear we're incredible. The music scene in L A was off the charts. Anything from Van Halen to Lou Reed played in tiny clubs
@@jabreck1934 yea the rock scene on sunset BLVD and Hollywood Blvd in the 80s...LEGENDARY...I grew up in Orange County so I remember driving by sunset BLVD on the weekends marveling at all the rock scene as a child !!
@@hotmail305 the Christmas parade and Hollywood decorated must be a fond memory as well

@@hotmail305 there was only 3 million people in L A then. Now it's over 12 million
U2 is a favorite of mine. Here is what Wikipedia had to say about the lyrics: 'Lead vocalist Bono wrote the lyrics in response to the notion that it is possible to identify a person's religion and income based on the street on which they lived, particularly in Belfast.'
not that a Dubliner would know. I'm from N. Ireland. I still get discriminated against based on my surname.
@@MVK123 I'm so sorry. Even though the Troubles are no longer world news, I guess the mindset remains... : (
I'm THOROUGHLY enjoying your channel. I've had a smile on my face watching your reactions to so many songs! I'd love to see you react to Desire (it's iconic) and All I Want is You from U2. 👍🏼Thank you for putting out such enjoyable content! 💖
Thank you
They performed this song at the first Super Bowl after 9-11 and they used this gorgeous building light effect with all of the names of the people that were lost. It brought a whole new meaning to the song and it was a really cool way to commemorate them.
The Edge is such an interesting guitar player. Very textural.
The last time I saw U2 was in 2017. News helicopters hovered above the arena as the fans waited for the doors to open. I've been to a lot of concerts, and I can honestly say I'd never seen that level of enthrallment with a band before. "What's with the helicopters? Has a spaceship landed?" .... "No, but U2 is playing."
Police at the end: Everyone back from the edge. Seriously, we are trying to watch him play.
Nicely done 👍🏼
Then they take The Edge away from the edge and you cant watch him no more
I remember being about 17 yrs old when this came out and I was a young U2 fan and insanely jealous of all the people who got to be there during this video.
You’re on fire tonight, man! First Huey Lewis, now U2. Let’s go! If you haven’t already, please check out All I Want Is You by U2 next.
man I'm surprised you know all these songs. I guess your parents put you on
Yeah partially. There’s still plenty of enough I don’t know that I’m able to have a reaction channel.
I lost my virginity to that song.
Gotta love the raw footage throughout this video. It really pulls you into the entire EPICNESS that was U2! I ushered their concert for the Zooropa Tour here in Atlanta at the Georgia Dome in 1992. It was also part of the 'Rock the Vote!' for the '92 election. Public Enemy opened up for them and the crowd was so diverse it was great! Fans of both groups cheered and celebrated a night of incredible music. ✌🏼That was also the last year (before this year of course) Georgia was a 'blue' or Democratic state. 💙🇺🇸💙
U2 would do impromptu concerts.... they did one a couple of years ago in the subways of NYC
"The Joshua Tree" is one of my top 10 albums of all time. Every song is incredible. "Pride" makes reference to Martin Luther King being shot on April 4 in Memphis. Great song. "Beautiful Day" & "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" also!
I got to see them in Melbourne, 1984 when I was 16. The only song I knew was “Pride” but my friends were big fans. One of my mates got dragged on stage with Bono & they danced together. Lots of fun 😊
I lived in LA in 1987 but by the time I heard about this event it was already over. I definitely would have left work and headed downtown had I learned about it earlier.
Love how this song just keeps building, never get tired of hearing U2, I actually really love their live version of Dancing Queen
Their what? Do they have a version of Dancing Queen?? I need to find that!
Oh God, my wonderful high school years all over again!❤❤
Yeeeeessss!
Same !!
Classic U2. Anything from the Joshua Tree is great. Love your reactions JoVaughn. How about Depeche Mode Strangelove, Never Let me Down Again, or Question of Lust? Please?!?!
I'll try hopefully it doesn't get blocked
@@JayveeTV Thank you so much. I think you will love these songs, and look fwd to seeing you react to them
@@JayveeTV Nice - go for Strangelove 88 - everyone else reacts to the 1987 version, this one was the bigger hit: ruclips.net/video/MHRabky4Ajc/видео.html
@@JayveeTV tonight is Depeche Mode’s induction into the rock and roll hall of fame. Would be very fitting right now.
U2 are famous for this kind of thing.. Busking in underground's etc. Love them epic band ❤️
Oh yeah, U2 was huge in the 80s. The Joshua Tree album is great.
Huge in the 80's? They were the biggest band in the 90's till this day!!!!!
For many years, U2 were absolutely one of the biggest bands on the planet.
Still are. Their newest album is #1
Still the best band in the world without doubt💚🇮🇪🇮🇪❤️
As often, dude, you are an astute interpreter of what's going on, not just in the song, but in the performance. And yup, post-REM, they were one of the first "alternative" bands to go arena.
Right. Going to a seedy part of LA. “Where the Streets Have No Name”. A metaphor for forgotten people. The marginalized, the insignificant. I love this band. Kudos. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Great stuff. I saw them live at an outdoor gig in Belfast, NI, in the early 90's, Outstanding.
I like the U2 song " If God Will Send His Angels" . Very mellow, great lyrics.
The Joshua Tree is a seminal album, but Achtung Baby was my joint. You gotta hear "Mysterious Ways" and, of course, "One." One is a classic.
Anything off Achtung Baby or Joshua Tree, for me U2's best albums , no bad tracks on either. Not many albums where I like everything.
I like War too, because it's still rough around the edges...
I was a teenager, this was our way. Our X way.
Same! ✨
@@kimberlinibambini1988 How does one feel like an ol codger and say I can't believe this was over 30 years agoooo🤣 when I'm still all🤘🤘🤘
@@DarlaVaughan very good question! 🤟🏻✌️✨
@@iro6612 right?! And I am about to hit 51🤣🤭
I've been lucky enough to have seen U2 twice in concert, and they DO NOT disappoint! I'm Irish and have seen them play Belfast and in their hometown, Dublin☘️'With Or Without You' is one of my fav U2 songs - they performed it at both concerts and I wept like a baby - it was just SO emotional! Both concerts were unbelievably amazing but seeing them play to THEIR DUBLIN was something I will NEVER forget! Bono is so interactive with the crowd and the band just kept on playing for hours. You should listen to 'The Unforgettable Fire', 'Pride', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' (Rattle & Hum live version - Bono's speech was so necessary) & 'All I Want Is You'.....simply beautiful. 💕
PS U2 are known for playing impromptu gigs, especially in America. A few of years ago, for New Year's Eve they performed on top of the BBC building in London to a PACKED City!
Joshua Tree was an absolutely EPIC album in the 80's. This was the first of the hits that I remember, "With or Without You" was the biggest. But for my money, the best song on the album is "Red Hill Mining Town". Check that song out - it's sonic beauty!
I agree...Red Hill mining town is one of my favorites along with The unforgettable fire
@@kolbee911 I LOVE Red Hill Mining Town and The Unforgettable Fire too.
They never released RHMT in our neck of the woods, but I think it's the best song on that album to! They released One Tree Hill here instead, as Greg Carroll was the New Zealander roadie that was killed in the motorcycle accident, they dedicated that song to him. One Tree Hill is a historic Landmark here in New Zealand.
They're as huge today as they were in the early 80's
Still tour every 2 years with a new album. Been to them all🥰🥰🥰
One of my favorite reactors, reacting to one of my favorite songs. Love.
I remember this. Was on holiday in LA, with my parents and my friend was invited on the holiday as was only child. We are from England. I was only 13, but will always remember that holiday. I was member of their fanclub so I new they where filming in LA and doing free concert for video around that time. We travelled from hotel to the location of shoot as parents liked U2 also. I went to their Dublin concert in 2017, with the same friend from holiday, 30th anniversary of Joshua tree, was brilliant, loads of memories came back, great weekend. The best band to come out if Ireland. So glad I was an 80s kid.
These guys were at thier best live, freaking amazing band so pleased i got to see them in thier heyday
Before i knew Pearl Jam, U2 was my favorite rock band! ♥️
Though this is the studio version overlaid with other sounds, definitely listen to the clean version - the intro is tremendous! I think you should listen to "Electrical Storm" from U2 next.
Do you have the link ?

They brought the excitement❤U2. I remember when this happened. You instantly knew their songs from Bono's vocals to The Edge's guitar sound.
Oh brotha...you need to react to Sunday Bloody Sundqy
Yes I do
@@JayveeTV I second Sunday Bloody Sunday. That video was everything at the time.
@@JayveeTV YES! And Bad (Live Aid) and New Year’s Day... so many!!
@@JayveeTV This version of 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' from Chicago 2005 is the bomb, with great sound quality

And here is another anti-war song that is less famous but just as incredible live, from the same show
ruclips.net/video/Cdt9kE58uww/видео.html
These will knock you right out ;)
@@JayveeTV The live from Red Rocks is a quality early live cut from them. Sunday Bloody Sunday is a deeply meaningful anti-war/anti-violence song opposing the British occupation of Northern Ireland. Meaningful related songs would be the Clash "Should I Stay or Should I Go?" and The Cranberries "Zombie" ... to name only a couple.
I've never heard this live before, its played and sung brilliantly and I loved listening and watching Jayvee, thank you for a new experience for me. U2 is a great band and Bono is a great humanitarian. The guitar solo is lovely, and I love the reactions of the crowd and you lol. I doubt anyone would be able to do this nowadays, the police would go crazy. Take care and stay safe please everyone God bless you all love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen UK
thanks for doing more u2 -- keep diving!!!
I recommend Two Hearts Beat As One -- great song that no one else reacts to. Or Desire -- the Hollywood Remix!!
This was obviously inspired by The Beatles roof top concert in London
Also AC/DC. Their video “It’s a long way to the top” was done on the back of a flat bed truck in the main Street of Melbourne in 1976.
Music unites people, period. 35,000 - all together, singing, dancing. Great, great band - outstanding lead singer - and a song that really does speak to the crowd. I was a 70's "Bee Gees" girl then discovered U2 in the 1980's and haven't stopped listening to them. Love their classic songs - "Joshua Tree" album - one of the best!
Hard to describe how huge they were worldwide. they filled stadiums. What a fantastic band...pre early 90's is their best stuff.
As Always, ya know how to react to All Great songs.... Thanks brother Jay.... Keepem Comin 🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🤠🤘🏼🎸🎧🎸🎧🎸🎧🎸🎧🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
Do "Bullet the Blue Sky," it's the song they lead in with at the beginning of the video.
Great, rousing song. And posted on my birthday too! Thanks Jay x

This song still gives me the chills after all these years
I wasn't in LA for this show, but I saw them in Oakland on this tour... still one of the greatest shows iv'e ever seen. 65000 plus people, all sponsered by Amnesty Intl... simply an unforgettable experience.
My favourite band ever! Seeing this song live was absolutely incredible!
The bossest move ever. That's how big they were
Just discovered your channel and I love it! I'm binge watching all of your reactions! I saw U2 perform this song in Cleveland in 2018. It was AMAZING!
One of the moments that defines the 80's, thank God I was a kid in the 80's, the best times ever
The studio version sounds almost exactly the same..he’s a fab singer, live or studio
This IS the studio version......they were miming to audio playback of the actual track
I wasn't there that day, but I did see them play San Diego on that tour. I saw them in San Francisco on the tour before that one. Really great concerts both.
They went and set up in downtown SF too, jamming before throngs and bringing the traffic to a halt. RUclips has the video -“Save The Yuppies Concert”.

Love them! Fabulous! As always!
Hiya Jay! U2 was the first band I saw live ever and it's still one of the top moments of my life!!! I've seen them live twice and in both, they were so amazing!!! They still are :-D This song makes me so happy!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
I remember this very well. Had the cassette tape and Walkman listened to it all time every song on joshua tree is excellent 🤘
I saw them in San Francisco in the early eighties. I hadn't even heard of them. Amazing ❤

You have been given a great gift...An open mind. There is so much great music out there. Enjoy. And thanks for letting us enjoy watching you enjoy it.
I remember when this came out, so amazing. They had expected a small crowd there for filming and it exploded with people.
They were so flipping amazing live
Used to see them live in Cubs in NYC back in the day. Love this video.
Such a FUN video! Yes, it was awesome.
I can see you groovin jayvee !! U2 always hadca banging beat!!
I've two CD recordings of this live - the PopHeart EP and on a 'b' side which starts with Bad. The way they went from the first song to this is near unbeatable
U2 are so amazing. One of the best bands of all time, their success is no fluke. Even their transformation from their 80s sound to Achtung baby is astounding. Going to a real industrial rock & even incorporating dance/electronic sounds too in Mysterious Ways & Even better than the real thing perfecto mix
This is one of my very favorite videos....Love the vibe the band and the song
love your channel...from South Africa
Going to see U2 during the Joshua Tree concert tour in 1987, was like going to church, it was a religious experience! Such a phenomenal band, songs and concert!!
I think Joshua Tree is a perfect album-- every song is a winner. Much like American Beauty by Grateful Dead, Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, A Day at the Races by Queen, Sgt Pepper by the Beatles, Tommy by The Who, Get Your Ya Yas Out by the Rolling Stones, and Junta by Phish.
Word. I wanna throw in Soup, by Blind Melon. Good list.
This song has one of the greatest intros you will ever hear on a rock song.
Thank you for doing U2 again! They are one of my favorite bands! You should check out Pride ( In the Name of Love), Sunday Bloody Sunday , Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses are all great songs!
I know I’m three months late as I am new to your channel but U2 is my absolute favorite band. They sound the same live just like on the record. I’ve seen them live 5 times and met them once. The Edge (guitar player) is so sweet and has the most beautiful crystal blue eyes I’ve ever seen. I love them all equally but the drummer Larry Mullen Jr. has my heart. His drumming on Bullet the Blue Sky is amazing. They put on the best show. I have no idea how Bono does it but his voice is amazing and Adam Clayton on bass on the song Gloria is so on point. I saw them last in Chicago 2018 and Bono fell twice. Once to come meet us and once during the concert down the back stairs. I’ve loved U2 since I was 10 that’s 40 years of devotion! Thank you! ❤️😘
I saw this concert back in the eighties and it was amazing.
I'm so glad you did the video for this song. It has a very special energy to it. This can give you just the tiniest example of how big this band was. If you do listen to the audio, get yourself a remastered version of it. People forget how old these albums are. The music holds up but the mixing doesn't. This video started with the radio station playing Bullet the Blue Sky. My absolute favorite U2 song. It is killer. Get thineself a remastered version of that song!
The band I have seen live more than any other and this is my favourite.
I wasn’t at the filming of this video however I did see U2 twice in 1987 in Oakland California and Los Angeles California. This video was filmed in April 87. They were promoting their most popular album to date The Joshua Tree. They are the best live band you’ll ever see! 60+ concerts for me and they still are going strong. 🎶🎼🎹🥁🎤🎸🍀
This is the song that SAVED my life....i’ll thank U2 for the rest of my life... LOVE THEM!!!❤️❤️❤️
Yep!
A few years back i drove to Joshua Tree NP and at sunset i played the Joshua Tree album through my car speakers. Goosebumps all over...
One of the best concerts I've ever been to! No doubt and U2!
Beautiful reaction man )
I remember this when I was growing up in Scotland, they decided to just go for it before the LA Police could close them down and it worked, back in the days of proper rock and roll bands
Big Country are so much better. The Crossing is so underestimated and as a live band they're epic x
If i could go back in time and do one thing it would be the early 80's Glasgow Barrowlands.
