  • New rocket parts means a new rocket design, it can hold 4 dupes for long term missions to other planets. Bringing 8 dupes to the fire planet might be overkill as it's a slow going on a planet this hot. But I regret nothing this rocket design feels perfect.

    as I understand it, the liquid and gas ports to outside the rocket vent to space when in space, so you could also send the CO2 there and not have potential issues with overpressurizing with the oxalite.
    [edit:] and yes, they do now exit through the door when using the lander, no more accidental suitless spacewalks.

    Hey John! At 16 mins you use ur oxylite to delete the CO2, instead you can directly pipe out the CO2 via the gas output on the bottom right (just ejects it into space)
    Also! With the wall toilet, why not just use the water pipes as a storage? Run the water all around the room, fill it up from the outside input port, and then just run off that. That way you don't need the liquid cargo module

    Storage bins can hold spare suits. Since we are leaving on relatively short terms and small teams, it might be better to bring, say, 20 extra suits with you instead of bringing along reed fiber. No need to set up suit repair; when you return, dupes will gather the broken suits and fix them at home.

      @@deathx0r essentially, this is true, but on game-load there are several issues in both vanilla and the dlc, food degradation (no matter how it's stored) is one of these issues, and can happen. Some of my food turned to a rot pile this way, and it was stored in -28°C Chlorine, thoroughly frozen (I'm still using FJs first design after food got patched). Didn't offgas pO2 when that later on became pDirt, but stored in a vacuum, it's a different matter.
      Dupes getting called away from lunch before they finish their food is an absolute nightmare in most of my bases, and it's been this way since before the dlc came to early access. Hope this is something Klei is aware of and plans to fix

      @@deathx0r The food was taken out and it went stale outside. The food will increase in staleness for the tiny amount of time that it's outside the deep storage. My point is that there's always the tiny chance that after a long time, there could be some food at 1% staleness that's picked up by the auto sweeper and loaded into the conveyor loader. Since it's at 1%, it may decay into a rot pile on the rails/inside the conveyor loader. There is a considerable distance from the mess hall and the cold storage, so I believe this is something worthy of consideration, with several million calories of food and several tons of potential resin on the line.

    the new liquid (and gas) interior input and output are very useful, no need for an external liquid tank to refill or empty the snake pipes for toilets, thanks klei
    that said before this patch, i did put a liquid tank not only for convenience (no need to deconstruct/reconstruct it at each maintenance) but also because i needed that liquid tank for operations on magma/tungsten or niobium planetoid
    it's very useful to have 2x 9t of water for magma taming/mining when not using glitches, straight obsidian insulated tile + ladder + insulated tile 12tiles deep/cycle easy, just close and solidify magma with water when it enters the bottom, i never had pressure damage with this method
    snakes pipes can store a lot of clean water, enough for 2-3-4 dupes for 15-20 days, i love snake pipes
    for my gas snake piping i use a classic automation co2 filter, co2 pipes go directly to the output interior slot, then O2 goes to a 2k vent (low priority) and the atmo suit docks (high priority bridge) if i didn't add an oxygen gas tank, i'll probably add the double bridge+sensor to it
    In the end the biggest problem i had was burns/scalding/dupes damage during magma operations, it was manageable with some attention and micro, but an hospital bed might be a good option (on the planetoid or in one of the rocket interior), there was very hot sour gas midway in the artefact room/ruin on my niobium/magma planetoid and 29t obsidian tiles didn't help lol (klei removed it i guess ? anyway i'm swimming into obsidian)
    @FJ your design is very efficient, i was going to rant about the decor bonus but these pixel racks...
    Thanks for your videos !

    I'd like to add something you may not have thought of, i used the liquid input, and fill a bunch of mazed piping with water, the liquid output doesn't matter for the toilet so you can store water in the piping directly. As for the air it vents directly into space once launched and disconnected from the venting system, so using a powerless gas filter and a micro pump you can setup a sensor system to turn on pump (when it doesn't detect o2 or detects c02 whatever floats your boat and vent c02 into space while keeping oxygen onboard, no more messy piping to store the c02. No gas storage, no liquid storage modules. EDIT at 8:39 no this is no longer the case. They actually use the door and check for docks next to it now.

    with the new command capsul ports you dont really need a liquid cargo container or the gas pump. Fill the entire rocket with pipes to hold spare water and oxygen and it should get you by for a few days. Mix that with bringing the supplies to build your beacon and cargo unloader. Then launch more water and oxygen to the new planet and have the unloader feed it directly into the rocket.
    All this is in excess of course but if your talking about being space efficient.

However, in your minibase series you have already introduced a filtration system that works better than your current powerless one. The solution alexander burgers proposed to went into an output will only work in space, however puting a gas element sensor right in front of the vent will allow you to filter anything other than o2. this means you have an extra tile to work with. Also using the sideways door instead of the ladder will grant you 1 more space, which wold make it possible to create a sleeping quarters as well as a dibing room if you got rid of the for the win storage.

    Isn't the solar panel enough to charge the rocket "without" atmo dock.
    They don't use the docks in travel.
    You can just fill up a couple atmo suits. Place in container and when you get to said planet.
    Manually assign atmo suit.
    1st thing to do when you get there is build up a small 3h*8w room for them to run out the rocket, enter the room, put on suit and get to work.
    Giving you 15 more tiles to make it a bathroom and bedroom for moral, containers.

    Hey man, love your videos. What difficulty settings do you play on? I play on survival difficulty with everything standard. Colonizing new planets is a real chore for me though, as I have to deal with stress. Gotta prioritise a massage clinic and decor before I can do much else. Your settings look a lot more enjoyable to play with, where you can concentrate on the gameplay instead.

    I think they added a feature that dupes will go out the door when put into the trailblazer module meaning they will put on an atmo suit automatically now.

    Do liquid hydrogen and use a hydrogen engine. Gives you more rocket height to play with and the engine produces lots of power you can use in flight.
    The just released test branch update also nerfs nuclear somewhat and buffs hydrogen rockets.

    I really wanted to run the original asteroid size but my game is already slowing down. I started a spaced out map, it turns out that not only the starter asteroid, but the planet it teleports to is also smaller (starter from 240 to 160 wide, 2nd planet from 160 down to 120 wide), and there is no uranium on either of them to have fun with in a reactor. I can deal with the limited water geysers, but it's a let-down not having beetas or any uranium at all.

    • @salemprompthous3820
      @salemprompthous3820 2 года назад

      Beetas and uranium biome should be on one of the three starter planets, maybe you just got unlucky, and all of them are on the third planet?

    You mention a change for oxygen on round trip rockets for harvesting from asteroids but I can't seem to find a setup that you have for that rocket version. Could you point me towards a video that has a build for an asteroid harvesting rocket?

  • @du7

    Why don't you use the gas input of the rocket and a lot of background pipes to store O2 for the suit docks? This way you can store a lot of O2 without pumping it.

    I've seen you do this a few times and I still don't get it: Why do you bring fibers with your rocket missions? Why not just bring spare suits instead? Mission prep work is the very same as with fibers, and you can skip the whole repair thing on the remote site.

    • @salemprompthous3820
      @salemprompthous3820 2 года назад +1

      Doing the repairs on-site saves the possibility of micromanaging saving on the suits, and maybe sending the team home early. Atleast that's my understanding
      Edit: huh, that was a great phrasing, and excellent English right there ^^ lol

    • @emmeffgeh
      @emmeffgeh 2 года назад +2

      @@salemprompthous3820 Uhm yeah, but my point is: Instead of bringing 20 fibers and repairing a suit 20 times you could just bring 20 suits ready to go in a storage bin. It's the very same result and you don't have to send them back any earlier than you would when the fibers are used up.

    • @salemprompthous3820
      @salemprompthous3820 2 года назад

      @@emmeffgeh that is a good point, yeah. Should be the same outcome.
      One difference though, minor as it is: with repairing the suits, the reed fibres don't need transportation back, the worn out suits would. With the "store-and-drop", it's a negligible difference ofc.

  • @fada1922421
    @fada1922421 2 года назад +1

    Is it less viable to just bring a bunch of spare suits instead of doing the repairs at the new planet?

    I’ve been watching your videos for a while now, and I’m just curious. Why don’t you use the power control stations? All you need to do is give them 50 kg of refined metals (including lead) and it’ll increase almost any power generator’s output be +50%. I use it on my coal generators and they each produce 900 watts of power.
