    What a coincidence that this video popped up to my recommendations, when I was feeling down on how stiff my next animatic looked just yesterday. I'm feeling okay now, but yesterday I was feeling extremely sensitive about my own art, because I wanted to be deemed as the greatest of them all, only to bring myself down later on. I wanted to prove myself to others that I am capable of being worth of something, when in reality all I ever wanted was to be acknowledged, praised, and loved, and possibly make friends out of art, only for it to backfire somehow... I eventually gave up the idea of making friends with my art, and just started to just draw for myself now, and I wish I did when I was much, much younger earlier on, I guess it's better late than never to do stuff for yourself, because sometimes you do need to treat yourself better by creating something for yourself.

    One thing that I definitely struggle with as an artist is comparing myself to others a lot. Whether it's while looking for references online for my own art, or just coming across it online, I always look at other more talented artists, and say to myself, "Man, I wish I was like them..." While I do recognize that I'm slowly growing as an artist, I still find myself being constantly insecure about my art, sometimes just not posting it at all if I don't like it, or if I don't think it's good enough to post online. I definitely do the "Oh, it didn't get enough traction online, so I'll repost it", but instead of reposting it, I'll just sit there and feel insecure about it for the next week.
    This video honestly helped with this, and having just finished watching at the time of typing this, I feel like I'm more confident that I'll be able to respond to not getting likes or comments better now. The fact that this only has about 300 views right now feels criminal, and this video, as well as your channel as a whole is extremely underrated!

    Sometimes we don't appreciate how long we've been in the art grind, all too often we bog ourselves down cuz when we look at these art gods in social media they make it look so easy. But also we haven't seen their own struggles to get to where they are. I'm at this point where I've gotten good with art but my mental with how I perceive it is terrible. It has nothing to do with our art at all, maybe it's about time we step back and work on ourselves, our health specifically. If we fix ourselves physically, we also fix ourselves mentally. Ya'll are important everybody. Great video.

  • @mayer2630
    @mayer2630 6 дней назад +5

    yeah, I think it's still wise to plan a schedule to grow your followers, and generally after you post it, just leave it, don't think about it, maybe linger on it for a day or two, but what we must do is just to focus on what to work on next.

    • @markiicreative
      @markiicreative  6 дней назад

      Yh just stick to your plan and change it if needed for better results but if it’s at the cost of your art , mental or just your overall creativity then maybe you shouldn’t pressure it as much because art isn’t your typical “grind” it works better when your healthy and well 🙏🏽❤️

    I spent like 2 years drawing everyday and I ended up quitting because I thought it wasn't good enough. Fast forward to a year later and I'm going through my google photos and I see my art (full blown portraits, sketches with life and motion, cute characters) and I was like.... wow, why did I stop? So I have been privately redrawing/painting the ones I like and its been therapy. Its similar to how I take pictures and think I look gross but then look back a month later and I see myself and think "wow I was so pretty in this picture, what the heck." This has taught me to do my art in steps, then walk away from it. If I sit there and try to make everything perfect, but I can tell something is off - I give up. Now I'm just like, lets stop here go workout, eat and come back later to fix the little details. A lot of the times the stuff I see, other people don't even see it as a problem. I've had people ask to buy my stuff and I always so no because I wouldn't feel right taking money for something that's not "done". I have learned that people will find value in different forms of art, so I have to be open to those opportunities . For example there is an artist I follow on insta who literally draws stick figures, and I personally think it looks like chicken scratch, but everyone loves his art. The little animations are funny, and the stick figures feel alive and relatable. So I get it now. I suck at "line art" and it stresses me out, but then I found other artists who literally paint over there sketch or incorporate the sketch into the finished piece instead line art - and its beautifully messy. Stuff like that has taught me to be myself and enjoy the process, Find ways to be creative that fit your personality.

    • @bre6651
      @bre6651 12 часов назад

      I also want to mention that if you are good at imitating art styles, I would say keep doing it. You could work at any studio and help them finish projects. I just don't think its right to constantly copy someone's art and say its your own unless you are doing commissions for fan art in which case you would need to make whatever your client is asking for in that specific style. I really wish I could remember her name, But there is a chick that makes bank creating custom profile pics for gamers on Discord, based off of the game characters. Everyone told her "you have to draw more than the face. you can't make money just making portraits, you'll never be a real artist if that's all you do" and she proved everyone wrong lol.

    One thing that may be helpful for you who keep comparing your drawings to other artists.
    If you want to compare your art to see the progress that you made, there’s one artist that can instantly make you understand how is your progress in your art and the differences…yourself.
    Compare your own art, take arts that you did in the past or some that you did in some weeks or months ago and compare to the others you did now, this will help you see how much you evolved and can also make you see things you didn’t saw that moment. If you compare yourself to others this won’t make you feel that motivated anymore, instead of looking at the other artists and judge yourself, try to learn from them of how they did that thing.
    And always remember: Art. Is. Art. There’s no wrong or right drawings, remember that a banana on the wall with a tape is considered art for some people.

    As someone who really wants to become a full time artist, but it sometimes feels like the clock is running out, sometimes I forget to take a step back and appreciate the progress I've made since day one. It may not always feel like I'm progressing nearly as fast as I want to, or I may not know the next step to take. But even where I'm at now, just a few years ago, I would have felt was impossible back then.
    All in all, I'm excited to see where I can take my art in just another few years. This was a great video, keep up the good work.

    Having confidence is probably my biggest issue when it comes to art cause I get too hung up on "oh, that doesn't look right" or " that's not how that works". When looking at a lot of comic art and how they render shadows it's borderline ridiculous and shadows don't work the way they ink it. BUT it looks cool regardless, even if it is wrong, they still make good art.

    II somewhat disagree. I would advice beginners to copy a lot of different artists and styles. Style is just a mixture of all the art you've consumed. You take elements that you like from different artists. It also helps you explore different techniques and methods and find what works for you. I am not saying don't learn form nature/real life, but I don't think copying other artist in an early stage is bad. I still do master studies of artists that I think are really good. Just don't post it online or claim to be your own. But you can actually learn so much from it.

    • @markiicreative
      @markiicreative  6 дней назад +7

      Yeah you are correct about learning from others through referencing but you still have to be careful about how you do it or else you will end up losing your identity or never having one at all I myself personally have been through this phase where I don’t know whether I like the art I make simply because all I always use to do is reference other artist styles and never tried to do things on my own.

    I am very hard on myself when it comes to my art. The longer I draw, the more I get so frustrated to the point I cry, crumple up my art and throw it away or delete it. I want the best and I try using references or whatever comes to mind, but something stills feels off. I want to post my work, but when I see my work I feel shame, and then I'm harder on myself. Furthermore, I've even been bullied over my art saying how terrible it is, which has me deeper in my negativity circle I want to be an animator and a graphic novelist both illustrations and writer because I'm chocked full of ideas but not matter how hard I try to focus life seem to be enjoying the fact I get knocked around.

    Agree on social media point: algorithm is fickle. 30h paintings performed worse than some random reaction post I made about a game I play. Sometimes, a quick one does better than a full render. It is just that. I think one needs to think why they post in the first place: to share with community and draw for fun or trying to get as many followers as possible to make money at some point.
    If it is the first: do exactly that, draw for fun, not likes.
    If it is the second then one needs to understand: it is a job and should be treated by one. Do the trends, interract with community, improve your skills and use them as a tool. It might drain fun from drawing but that is reality of having a job in any area. However, it also elevates that insecurity about own skills because it becomes less personal.
    Comparison can be destructive indeed. Look at art to learn, not to ruin yourself. Remember why you draw: is it passion for the character? Drawing process? We all learn at our pace - everyone started with stick figures. Fans of art (especially fanart) are like in cake meme: they don't think "Oh, I pick the cake made by professional because one by amateur wasn't that well made". Instead they think "Oh hell yeah! 2 cakes!"
    I think regarding copy: imitation is fine. Master studies exist for a reason. Take the best from your favorite artists and make it own.

    I used to be a crazy good artist back in high school, but my art teacher left me feeling utterly demoralized by the end of my second year of high school (she hated animation art styles, which was what i was best at. I tried realism, but failed everytime).
    My ROTC instructors were the exact opposite, they were impressed by the time and effort I put into what I drew. First time they noticed was after I finished an exam and decided to work on a sketch I was working on (Millennium soldier from Hellsing Ultimate, no offensive imagery was seen since it was a close up of their face. It was from the scene before one of them bit off the face of a mercenary after getting into the manor). I viewed those soldiers as the ultimate test of my skill since they were insanely hard to sketch, prior attenpts up until that one ended in failures. Then I drew an image with three of them standing together among the smoke of the battlefield (each one held a firearm; the Panzerfaust, the Kar-98k, and the MP40). It was a successful sketch.
    I've been playing Limbus Company recently and now I'm considering sketching my own sprites based off that style since I like the appeal of the sprites and giving them their own unique uniforms and designs. Inspiration strikes in the strangest ways

    Nice video! This reminds me one of my fav quotes (from a twt tho) 😂 about art that I print as stickers on the cover of my sketchbook and it says something like this, "you consume so much art online that your tastes outmatch your own skills and it skews your perception of your own art"
    I feel drawing is loving the _process_ instead of focusing too much on the results. _Perfection is like chasing the horizon._ Sometimes I come back to my old drawings as a kid and thought to myself "wow these are weird, but if I stop here back then ... will it bring me to the point I am now?"

However, regardless of how many people actually like the things I make, I still like making them. I stared to post again for those 30 people that like what I make, and especially for myself and for my future self that one day will look fondly at what I managed to create. I’m def not a bad artist. But I don’t think I’m as a good as I would like to be.
    I think part of it is because I don’t have enough time in the day to finish a drawing. And often times my stuff ends up messy and unfinished. It also doesn’t help that I’m not super good at human anatomy.

    I actually gave up on posting my social media for years but i might actually start again. My main reason for quitting to post was that my pieces take literal WEEKS to finish and then a weeks worth of me drawing ended up with 14 likes.
    It sounds stupid and superficial but that is what social media is for, no? Getting feedback, comments, people who appreciate your art.

    • @markiicreative

      I feel your pain (I get no likes on Twitter either) and it’s unfortunate when it happens but you have to remember the reason why you create to keep yourself motivated and yes you are correct social medias main design was to be “social “ but that time has long pass I fear 😭😭😂 just use it to share your work n build up your little community of like minded individuals 🙏🏽❤️ trust me there is a community for everyone it just takes time to find yours sometimes 🙏🏽🙏🏽

    Thank you, I'm relieved hearing to that. I actually kinda got stuck not getting likes on X recently. I usually upload game character fanarts but I also draw NSFW stuff on my second account. It's been difficult to handle 2 accounts at the same time so I decided to focus on NSFW account. Some of the pictures that had 5000 likes on my main account becomes like 5 likes if I post on the second account. It is driving me crazy nobody seeing my drawings now.
    However, I think I should not care that now.
    I have a project of drawing my original manga sequel, and I hope it goes well as it did on my first one. I'd like to focus on it for now.

      Social media is very funny when it comes to different genres I have had similar experiences in the nsfw space vs my sfw space and I really couldn’t afford the mental exhaustion 😂 so I stopped giving it power over me but I do understand if you are hoping to grow a in hopes of making a living from it and at that point you just have to do what you have to do regardless of likes 🙏🏽😭 people just like what they like I’m afraid.

      @@markiicreative Thank you for the reply.
      I use social media to advertise myself, and I know it affects to the sales of my manga a bit. But it is not easy to work on both drawing manga and draw some illustrations that would buzz on there at the same time. Manga is mostly monochrome and it doesn't appeal to the users so well.
      However, I think I should do what I really want to do. And also I need to think about that probably I'm better artist than I think like you said.

    Nah, I'd win.
    But on a serious note, especially things you said in the first part of the video, I know of them. As in, on intellectual level. But my heart refuses it and it is most likely due to lack of self compassion. It is still long way ahead of me, but if there's something I am good at related to art, it is that I haven't given up yet. I'm kinda stubborn bastard.
    Thank you for this video. Because you're not huge youtuber with milion of subscribers, I think your words are meaning more.
    I'm going to check more of your videos and likely you might earn yourself a new subscriber.

    I also don't enjoy drawing anatomy cause it caused my depression to get worse and made me experience a year of pure hell that ruined drawing for me still to this day so i draw other things that Don't require anatomy skills and as a aspiring tattoo artist I'm never gonna draw people or anything that requires anatomy

    I draw tattoo ideas and actually drew the tattoo im getting in nov when i turn 18 so most of my art is tattoo based and are stuff I'm going to get so every art piece is a personal piece

    I have an issue, at 11:39 the topic was rules. I started traditional and I still do it but I also do digital, so I honestly i find it cheating to use mirror tool, circle tool, leaf brushes, etc, and I’m having a hard time because I think I’m not allowed to use them and can’t get myself out of that feeling. (I also just can’t draw good circles- 😅)
