- This video is more of an adventure or a chase. This was an adventure to a port i believe the public can only see from the water.
I had never been to see Nanticoke before when i have visited Port Dover or Longpoint, so I decided today was the day.
Sadly the weather wasn't very cooperative.
I made my way along to Nanticoke Refinary Port on Lake Erie, next to the Stelco Steel. We will also take a quick look at the dock there too.
A full Sea Doo adventure video which includes Nanticoke will air at a later date.
Long Point at the lighthouse is quite a party spot for boats. Toward Pottahawk is Six Beer Point and Ten Beer Point. No explanation needed. The bouey could be for marking fishing net areas most likely, there are a few shallow wreck hazards off the lighthouse but they would be colored orange or red and ought to be marked as such. The Elphicke is one wrecks name.
In the full length version of this video that i'll post at a later date, my depth finder and GPS were slightly off and i nearly slammed into a sandbank. I was showing 20ft when suddenly i could see sand, 2-3 ft only. I knew it was there but compared to my chart, the shallow seems to of moved slightly.
Yes, that's Long Point, very surprising how far that sandbar goes from the point and pointing toward Dunkirk, probably a good mile or more. Give it alot of clearance around the point. I recall a trip from Erie to Port Dover seeing a guy at least a half mile out in open water on the sandbar reading his Sunday paper while sitting in a lawn chair, his boat transom a few yards away. I noted the shallow water, he probably had a cold beer too.
Very cool.
The pier at Stelco is 1 mile long.
