      Yeah, that was a first for me. A nice visual for me to keep in my head, the broad jump analogy. Very nice and helpful. Another from Leib Stark was "Don't do the 'Drinking Bird' head positioning when swinging." He was referring to those plastic toy birds that bob back and forth drinking water from a small cup. They've been around for decades. This is the position that Kelly warns about getting dizzy from.

    There is a hinge swing and a squat swing, they're both different and have purposes, it's NOT that one is wrong and the other is correct, when she states some swings are "way too hingey" some might look at her swing and say "that's way too squatty" it's better to acknowledge both types of swing and emphasise their purposes and differences than suggest that one of them is wrong. There's sports specific training and targeted physio movements, for example someone doing rehab and flossing will be instructed to do the hinge type to focus on the hip thrust more than firing the quads, otherwise this was a good video

      @adlantian6334 7 дней назад +2

      Swings are going to specialize at building explosive power better than a goblet squat, which is more like a a traditional resistance movement to build strength. Though you can can definitely modify the goblets to be more explosive either with your tempo or adding a jumping movement at the end. Experiment and see what works best for you. Dont listen to click bait titles that say there is a "perfect," one-size-fits-all way to do a movement. As long as you are safely core bracing, shoulder packing, to protect your joints and tendons and don't ego lift, every exercise can be tweaked nearly endlessly to target your specific needs.

    I have a lower back condition called Sciatica, though its been some years. I avoid heavy weights as axial loading on my spine can trigger it back. Will doing KB swings using lighter weights be of any use?

    • @tonybernard4444
      @tonybernard4444 26 дней назад

      I've found that my sciatica and back spasms were a function of hamstring/hip flexibility. I've been doing Jefferson Curls and deep Bulgarian split squats as part of a morning warmup routing for several years, and I haven't had any problems. I believe swings will work the hamstrings, but maybe not in a full stretch. I'm also careful about my back, so I make sure to stop the set while the work still feels good.

    When in a workout is it best to do these? And on what day?

    • @drewbob3030
      @drewbob3030 21 день назад

      Since no one has yet to respond to your question, I figured I would.
      Working out the swing is best done after strength work in a workout. It can be used as an effective warm-up exercise as it hits most of the body and gets the heart rate up, provided it is not taken too far. A few sets of 10 or more reps with a moderate weight will do the trick for a warm-up. But, if you’re really working the swing for maximum benefit, it will have you sucking wind, deplete your energy reserves and may impede your strength training.
      As for what day, pretty much any day. This type of swing is primarily a hip and hamstring movement, but it isn't generally considered a strength exercise. If done properly you’ll feel a burn in your glutes. Some people advocate daily swings. Some every other day. Heavy swings can be a day’s workout. All depends on your goals.

    How does American and Russian kb swing compare?

    • @drewbob3030
      @drewbob3030 22 дня назад +1

      American swings go all the way overhead. You may see them in CrossFit vids. You may also see people nearly bonk themselves on the head doing them to the point of exhaustion.
      Russian version is safer. You can let go of the bell at any point and it will not land on you. It may bounced back into you, but it won;t land on you.

    Great instructions as usual. Thanks! But the camera work really needs improvement. Shaky, crooked, head cut off, too much movement and poor composition in general. It feels improvised, not planned and also doesn’t justify as „stylish“. - Exercises like squats, deadlifts and kettlebell swings etc are best represented in profile view to better show proper back, hip, knee over feet, shoulder over knee positions.

    The last shallow swing you're demonstrating honestly doesn't look bad at all IMO: it is efficient and a kettlebell swing is not a flexibility exercise. If you're able to swing very shallow and keep that going, the kettlebell is way too light.
