- Don't try this one at home! Gav and Dan pop over to Kentucky where Scott from @KentuckyBallistics has prepared some explosive demonstrations of what can happen if the wrong ammunition is used at the same time a bullet is stuck in the barrel.

Nice
Collab of the year!!
Weapon in ohio
Brilliant
It's so strange hearing him speak so softly compared to his usual excitement and high energy, but somewhat serene
so true, during the intro i was kinda expecting the whip sound effect from Scott’s videos.
You should have a look at what was Scott was producing 7 years ago, it's quite different
electroboom was the same hah
And no table-toss, lol. 🤣🤣
Speaking Softly? I don't know this guy but he seemed so high energy/American compared to the lads
Mistaking Carolina Reaper for "California Reaper" is one of the more British things I've heard Dan say
I was thinking the exact same thing
I came to the comments to find this.
I didn't even notice 💀
I thought they were Austrailian
I thought he said California Reefer and was really confused.
I love how when Gavin says 187,000 frames per second and every second is two hours the look on Scott's face is priceless.
The most :o face I've ever seen.
Had to use the backup audio for this vid. I think the audio receiver was only half plugged in so sorry for the extra wind and lens noise!
You guys are obviously known for the camera footage but I think the quality audio in nearly every vid is underappreciated
I actually kinda like having the nature sounds
haven't even noticed! awesome video as usual
It's fine.
If your taking suggestions: Trained Boxer, hitting heavy bag with good form. Trained for nearly 10 years but the mechanics of how much force can be generated from the body mechanics and shift of weight is really interesting. Seeing that in slow motion for the major punches would be really really interesting. Would have to be someone who has trained for a while and knows how to throw the perfect punches on the bag... Many trained boxers out there.
It's shocking to see Scott so calm, serious and not acting out as he does on his channel lol
that's probably because his 'acting out' is literally just that - an act. It's for entertainment purposes.
@@mikehancock9887 obviously. But still quite shocking ;)
How do you guys not understand that RUclipsr performers are... Performing? Do you really think the guy goes around acting like that all the time? It would be so exhausting. RUclipsrs are just people.
@@mikehancock9887 I wouldn't call it an act totally. I would say that he turns it up a bit and is more uninhibited, though, which is not at all surprising for youtubers. You can still definitely see a lot of his natural playful personality in this. Scott is nowhere near as egregious of faking his personality as most other youtubers, though, and of one in particular I'm thinking of.
@@malice5121 don't leave us hanging with that....
One of the things I love the most is Dan gets to show his knowledge a lil more in these kinds of vids.
oh yeah that's right, he's ex military.
@kevinspacey5325 Ex's demolitionist/explosives expert too
The accents. The beautiful mix of accents. And the childlike wonder and joy when reviewing the high-speed. Fantastic collaborative efforts.
Scott smiling when asked if he’s ever blown a bolt action before was hilarious
Looking for this comment. 😂those country boys will be boys…forever.
😂
Technically the .50 wasn't a bolt action.
At first i thought it was a coincidence, but then he laughs in a very specific (and familiar) way later on when another easily misinterpreted question is asked tells me that nope, you're right. Hahah. I love that, exactly the type of humor I love and shows that someone can joke around without taking everything too seriously.
@@brandonclark435 Wasnt it? lol
It's funny how Scott's so polite and respectful on the Slo-Mo Guys' channel then is constantly laughing at them getting sprayed on his own channel
yea lol
I always feel like on his channel he has planned things and knows they are safe so is able to be more open, but when he is the guest even on his own range he is being Scott of Kentucky Ballistics but also Scott the master of range and monitoring everything to be sure no one does something unplanned and unsafe so the split in his attention makes things less spontaneous. To me it shows by the fact that after things are done and all risk is gone he opens up more, then closes up as any risk comes back.
and he didn't even break the table
(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
Very rude personality
@@morfgo how is his personality rude? Did you even watch the video on his channel? He was never rude, they were all just having fun and laughing about everything that happened.
On the bolt action rifle watching the metal peel apart like we've seen clay do previously, is insane and really does prove that at high enough energies, even the most solid objects start to act like fluids.
Interestingly, Quantum mechanical calculations do show the melting point of at least some metals decreases at extreme pressures. So that could be sort of a precursor to that. Obviously it's not melting, but the pressure is putting massive strain on the atomic bonds, causing a liquid/fabric like ripple effect that it has a similar looking state.
The scariest part is, our bodies, when faced by these forces and pressures, are no more of an impediment than a puff of vapour. Not even a water balloon, just a little cloud of steam.
@@DinnerForkTongue Yeah, that IS scary as hell.
Scott is such a solid, friendly dude.
Yeah he's chill af, Id love to hang out with Scott :)
As a fellow Kentucky native, he does our state proud 😁
Scott had an amazing story of survival from an exploding gun, owing his life to his dad who somehow managed to get him to the hospital in time.
and his thumb.
That is dad's power! he can do anything to save his son life.
Yeah, Sr. is a beast.
STICK A THUMB IN IT!
The most insane portion of it, to me, the ride to the hospital / meet up with the ambulance. Just the idea that if he lost consciousness at any moment during that truck ride, he just would never have woken up is chilling.
Seeing how massive the .300 win mag detonation was just make me think how absolutely monstrous the big .50 that was right there next to Scott's face was
Thats exactly what I was thinking too
Could have actually been smaller, hard to say. He specifically loaded these to blow, probably loaded with pistol powder and if what he said was correct, nearly 10x the normal opperating pressure. The 50 that went off wasn't meant to, so may have been only 10 to 20% over the failure point.
@@JohnDoe-zs6gj The round that detonated had been tampered with and was a reload.. it was sold as new to him .. new as in not a remanufactured round.. the load was extremely hot... you can check out the video about it on Scott's channel or on Mark Serbu's channel as he talks about the force needed to do what happened.. Mark over engineers his weapons, more than what you state, and that is what makes it so scary seeing what it took to do what it did to the rifle and unfortunately to Scott. Needless to say..... It was something else...
It was way spicer then that lol. That 50 steel is no joke
@@zazz69ed ultimately the gun manufacturer was not the issue right? I think I remember hearing him (or someone else in the video) say that the threads were rated to a high standard and should have been able to handle a normal round.
As a big fan of both channels, I never thought of this collab before, and now its safe to say we're going to need more!
The fact that the gun components are completely blown apart and the still don’t point them towards each other even if it’s just a grip or the barrel shows true firearm professionalism
Camera expert + explosive expert + gun expert = Happy watcher!!
The perfect combination!
I remember hearing Scotts story awhile back. His Father and HIMSELF saved his life. One of the craziest stories I've ever heard, definitely check it out if you haven't.
Just stick a thumb in it
Sip on a Mello yellow while watching it. Lol
Put a thumb in it!

I am so impressed with Scott's immense knowledge on firearms, Scott, we are incredibly grateful to you and your Dad that you are still alive !!!! Keep doing what you do {safely} !!! Kudos to the slo-mo guys as well, awesome video guys !!
Somebody loves his exclamation points, right?
@@einundsiebenziger5488 your point !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
I have a theory for the vapor puff out the front. I'm gonna guess that Scott mechanically pushed the squib into place (as opposed to actually under loading a round and banking on the squib getting stuck) so the squib wasn't fully engaged in the rifling, leaving just the tiniest gap around it. Then when the round when off, it created a piston that rapidly compressed the air in the barrel before the squib, causing the water vapor in the air to condense back into a liquid, along with any trace of oil left in the gun (which was likely brand new, guns are usually shipped with a thin film of oil to prevent rust)
My exact theory.
I don't think he said that the .bolt rifle had a squib. My theory if that is the case is that the chamber pressure elastically deformed the barrel, widening the internal diameter and allowing the gas to escape, causing the pressure to drop and the barrel's internal diameter to return to its starting point.
I’m sure this mutual exposure is great for bringing new fans to each Chanel, but dang it always feels so good when you see an unexpected crossover from two channels you’ve followed for years. Great video everyone, cheers!

Man, the horrific situation that happened to Scott is a real testament to just how damaging any sort of explosion can be! It only takes the right place, right time and right dangerous situation to add up to a bad day!
This is the most all-American slo mo guys episode I've ever seen and I love it
Scott out here being the literal definition of 'what doesn't kill you makes you stronger'.
For real tho, he's getting yoked...

Scott, Gav, & Dan talking so naturally & passionately about slow-mo and guns was amazingly wholesome to see and listen too.

Wholesome is the most overused out of context word in the comments section of RUclips.
@@sjv6598 Well if you don't want the word wholesome, it was just a natural and friendly conversation between them that was nice to see!

Mad respect to Slow Mo Guys for this collaboration with Scott! I love both of these channels.
ive been watching both channels from the beginning so to see them collab thats just aswsome!:D
I never thought of this collab happening, can’t wait to watch!
For real. Always expected Demo Ranch cause they’re in the same area. But not Kentucky Ballistics. Lol.

Scott is so humble. He is a great guy.

Scott's approach to firearms and firearms safety always impresses me. Adding Slow Mo guys, as a Britisher, just makes me happy. Now they need to go on Taofledermaus!
That would be great too!
No, no Taofuddermaus.
Taofledermaus would be awesome!!!
Doesn't Tao already have a slo mo cam? Or am I thinking king of another gun channel?
That had to be one hell of a reaction Scott had when he 1st saw a message from the slow mo guys. Even a super star like Will Smith seemed unusually geeked out working with Gav and Dan. Def YT legends now.
4:08 "I have detonated this exact same gun before..." He certainly did an amazing job putting it back together again! ;-)

In the same way that Gav and Dan are THE slow mo guys. Scott is THE guy for exploding guns. It truly is a match made in heaven.

Same can be said for gavin haha
Mostly due to lack of eggplants, and also no watermelon time
This is the calmest I've ever seen Kentucky Ballisticas, and I'm not going to lie, I really enjoyed it. Hope you can do another video together
some of his early videos are like this. the pine board penetration test era is where it starts to ramp up but it's still in this level of calm.
Thanks gentlemen for sharing this with us. It gives us a better understanding of what happens when you don’t respect firearms. From overloading or using the wrong gunpowder to squib loads. Always, always, always, always treat them with respect and caution. Best of 🍀luck to you and stay safe guys🇺🇸👍🏻❤️
That green flame is the copper vapor mixing with the flame and partially burning off.
Gun brass jas enough copper in it to do this. That means the explosion was so violant it literally liquified the gun brass of the shell casing.
Then vaporized that liquid through venting it in high pressure. Literally physics in ultra high speed.
I could not imagine having a horrific injury like that due to an exploding gun and still revolving your channel around firearms... Respect to you.
Not only that, but investigating and recreating the very incident that gave him the injury.
Took that horrific injury and channeled it into curiosity and knowledge.
@@moviebad109honestly, the worst part of the recreation was seeing that he literally got the worst case scenario of his gun exploding. The piece that went into his neck didn’t splinter off in the recreation.
To be fair, it's like having a channel based around something like "cooking with jalapenos" and then eating a california reaper and bein hospitalized. You'd think it would sour your mood but it just puts more it more into perspective. It's far too easy to do bigger and bigger things. It may have been cathartic for him to purposefully load some over-pressure rounds just to remind himself the amount of power he is working with and come to terms with how important it is to respect firearms.
@@chillbro1010 I wouldn’t say so. I feel like your example is a little far fetched, but I see your point.
Agree with the first half but he definitely already respected firearms greatly, his accident was about as crazy as it gets, it wasnt due to a lack of respect, maybe there are a few gun nuts who could’ve guessed the slap round would blow up his rn 50 but the vast majority of even the most experienced gun handlers wouldn’t just assume that his round would blow up the entire gun.
Thanks for featuring Scott's channel, more people need to know about him!
It’s hammer time!
That's right, Doc

Agree, highly entertaining and fun, but also a really decent down-to-earth chap. Love Scott!
The fact that Scott is still here and watching guns blow up is extraordinary.

“ have you blown one of these before ? “ Scott’s chuckle lol
Scott is such a real guy. He fits in so well with you Slo-Mo blokes. Love it.
There absolutely need to be more collabs between these channels

now that yall have visited scott yall should try to do something with demo ranch, brandon herera and garand thumb maybe administrative results too love to see it happen
The persistence of the fire ball in the second one was really amazing to see. I think the green in the explosion was copper from the bullet base. also the oil coming out of the barrel was surprising.
I would say you are correct... when you are forging and melting copper... the flame turns green.
The oil found its way through the rifling I reckon
My personal theory is that we're seeing vaporized lead from the hot round squirting around (and probably coring out) the squib.
I'd love to push a borescope down that barrel and have a look-see.
@@SwervingLemon Quite possibly, yes.

absolutely fantastic!! Thank you for spending the time and effort to share this, beautiful footage.
The shockwave from the explosion leaking around the bolt being outran by the pressure venting out the magazine *after* its already blown the upper receiver off is pretty insane. KY is a lucky sumbit.
Oh god the 2nd one.
I thought maybe the explosive pressure had condensed the air in front of the bullet to liquid for the second one, so that is what I think came from the end of the barrel. Just a thought.
@@jamescurfman3284 I think from the operator end, actually. The gas from the ignition going through the rifling or even just the gap around the squib like a jet makes sense, it looks like a dang carburetor

I do like that Scott is careful to make sure the barrel of the gun in question is never pointed at anyone and his finger is always well clear of the trigger.
