Dan's ability to do physically astonishing things makes me think he somehow bends reality.

Ironically it's not actually perfect, the whole point is to break only a tiny portion of the bottle very clean and leaver a perfect ring around the cork.

I don't know how I haven't watched this until now, but holy moly Gav's first try and Dan's disaster attempt gone beautiful were absolutely phenomenal. Even after doing stuff like this for well over 6 years, I have NEVER gotten a cut as clean as Gav's or as precise as Dan's. Those both floored me with impressed laughter. God speed, lads.
Since you seem to do a lot of it, tell me, what is the actual goal? A clean flat cut or to just pop the cork? Getting a cut completely below the cork or partway up the embedded cork so that is still pops nicely? Because I always thought it would be best to get just the cork and leave the rim, more like Rhett's try, though I suppose since the technique involved sliding the blade against the bottle then it doesn't make sense to expect it to skip over the rim.
@@dothedo3667 All depends on the culture of it. Some have the goal of popping the cork out, some have the goal of a nice clean cut like Gav's. I always go with what I view as the most satisfying, efficient, and effective way of not only opening the bottle, but also keeping the champagne inside.
Gav's perfect attempt and Dan's cork hit would both have been spectacular on their own, the fact that they both occurred in the way they did is insane

So, I've taken an exam in the waiter business, and here are some questions I can answer:
Why do you sabre a Champagne?
-It's mostly for weddings or special occasions, it's a nice way to start of the celebration and it's a long tradition
How do you Saber?
-You chill the tip, like Dan and Gav did, that will crispen the glass, making is easier to shatter, you hold it at around 45°, find the seam (not native English, so sorry for bad spelling), because it's an easy line to follow, and as perpendicular as possible to the bottle you'll have to have the blade, and then wack the tip
Why does it shatter? Is that because I'm bad and sabering?
-No, you can have sabred about 1000 bottles, but some will still shatter, because glass is unpredictable
Will I cut myself when drinking a sabred Champagne?
-No, due to the pressures in the bottle, 99% of the glass pieces will disappear

1. The last % will be on the edge of the bottle, so you can take a cloth to remove the last, but be careful, it's very sharp on the bottle
